These are the remnants of .hack//Chronicles.

Fragments...of an idea.

It was proof that the darkness would shadow him forever, no matter who he was.

Proof that the truth lay hidden. Proof that she loved him.

A young high school girl approached her computer. She had long hair that fell to her waist, and bangs that covered her eyes. Her white pull-over jacket warmed her, and dared to cover the edges of a uniform skirt at the bottom. A headset lay on the desktop, and a controller to the right of it.

She nodded to the computer as if it told her something. Her lips moved.

“I’m ready.”

(Theta) Chosen, Hopeless, Nothingness.

A group stood outside of a dungeon. A tall, slender, but muscular Long Arm seemed to be leading them. He had short, spiked blue hair and red cloth armor and a circular symbol printed on his chest. Alongside him, a young Wavemaster stood nervously fidgeting.

“Are…you sure you want me to come? I’m much to low for this place.” he said, at last.

The long arm turned to face him. He smiled knownly.

“You wanted to see for yourself, right?” he asked.

The Wavemaster nodded tapping his staff on the ground.

“Then, you should be prepared for it!” he encouraged.

Before the Wavemaster could say something, an experienced Twin Blade warped into the field.

“Natsume! You made it!” cried the Wavemaster.

“Yeah, sorry I’m late!” Natsume called running to them.

Without another word, the Long Arm lead the group into the dungeon. Once inside, he used a Fairy’s Orb to see the rest of the map. “This way.” he said, and turned left in a four-exit hallway.

They continued through the dungeon avoiding most of the battle. Until they finally came to a dead end.

“This is really hard! I died so many times that last battle!” whined the Wavemaster.

“Please, Jahiro, stay back and heal if you would.” said Natsume.

“It doesn’t matter, we’re here.” said the Long Arm. A large statue was floating in a endless pit before them. They faced a blue chest, which the Long Arm used Fortune Wire on.

He opened the chest and it revealed a stop watch. He sighed at the item and gave it to Jahiro.

“Uh…thanks!” said Jahiro.

“I’ve never seen a stop watch in ‘The World’ before, I’m going to guess it’s an unofficial event item?” said Natsume looking up at the Long Arm.

“That’s not what we came for.” stated Jahiro firmly.

Natsume gave Jahiro a surprised look.

“Wait…”

The Long Arm held out his spear to where the statue had just been floating.

A red wand appeared and behind it a large skeletal-like body.

“Crim!” shouted Natsume.

Crim’s eyes widened. He knew what this was, he had seen it before, but only a glimpse.

"There it is!" cried Jahiro. "he deleted my brother's character!"

“Jahiro! Natsume! Get out of here!” he ordered.

The two stepped back in surprise and Jahiro used a Spirit Ocarina to warp out. “Natsume, I said leave!”

“I won’t leave you behind!”

The red wand waited no longer, and attack Natsume killing her instantly. Crim turned back to face the monster with his spear ready.

“AhhhhhHA!”

(Theta) Root Town, Highland City Dun Loireag

A Heavy Blade waited by Chaos Gate. She leaned on her sword with her chin resting atop her hands.

“What is taking him…?” she whined.

A Blademaster finally warped in. But, instead of reacting the Heavy Blade only glanced over at him.

“Well, hello to you too, Mimiru.” said the Blademaster.

“I don’t want to be here right now. Why did you call me, Bear?” asked Mimiru.

“Did you see the boards?”

“No,”

Bear walked up next to her and gazed out into the distance.

“There’s more coma cases. One in particular that happened on the day Tsukasa logged out.”

Mimiru looked up from her position. “Coma cases? You mean, it’s happening again?”

“Maybe. Several of them, particularly in Japan. I’m going to meet with the Author of one of the posts. But I thought you might want to know.”

“What if they’re just like Tsukasa?”

“I don’t think it’s fair to assume the same as before just because we’ve dealt with it before. But I think, if your up to it, we could investigate it.”

“Yeah, like we’re some ‘The World’ detectives.”

Mimiru sighed and stood up straight to stretch. “It’s late, I don’t know how your still up.” she said.

“You going to log off?”

“Not yet.”

(Delta) Aqua Capital Mac Anu

A Heavy Axeman walked the streets of the city with a Blademaster beside her.

“So, how…was your vacation?’ asked the Blademaster.

“It was pleasant, Silver Knight, I’m glade you asked. Has anything happened while I was away?” she replied.

“Well, did you see the boards?”

“I apologize, I did not stop to see the boards before I logged in to meet you.”

“There’s been sightings of a horrible monster, they say it can’t be defeated.”

They stopped when the Axeman turned to face Sliver Knight.

“Was it described?” she asked grimly.

“No, I don’t believe it was, La-...Subaru.”

Subaru sighed. “I have a grave feeling about this news. It seems our troubles are yet to be solved.”

“I know, after the disappearance of that nuisance of a Twin Blade, I thought everything would’ve gone back to normal.” said Silver Knight as they continued on their walk.

“I wonder whatever happened to him.”

“Rumors say that he was defeated, but a lot of his past victims just praised the fact that he is gone.”

“It’s not like him. Despite his reputation, it’s unlikely he was defeated.”

“I hope the victor would do the honor of revealing himself, but, if it is as you say, there is no victor.”

(Delta) Detestable, Golden, Sunny Demon

A Wavemaster was chasing after a small Goblin creature.

“MeAni Kruz!” she shouted putting her staff before her.

Skulls converged on the goblin, and struck in a blast of dark power. The Goblin fell, and his body turned into a chest. The Wavemaster kneeled down to open it. Inside was a note, and a stop watch.

The note read:

From me, the Gob Kings are born, where I die, the first one lives! Want to play tag?

-Big King Gob

“No,” said the Wavemaster tossing the note aside and picking up the watch. “A stop watch? That’s odd.”

“BT!” called a Twin Blade.

“Hm?”

BT turned around to see a very young Twin Blade walking along side Mimiru. She had pink hair, and quite an undefined face.

“Who’s this Mimiru?” BT asked when they reached her.

“A new friend I made earlier.” Mimiru smiled.

“Hi!” said the Twin Blade.

“Now then, why are you here?” BT asked turning to Mimiru.

“Bear wanted to see you, but he said you never answered his mail.”

“I’m quite sick of his little escapades, and after our last little ‘quest’ I wanted to get back to the meaning of ‘The World’.”

“Oh, so then your not going to help?’

“No.”

Mimiru gave her an understanding look, and left with her friend.

BT sighed, “I just don’t want to get used…again.” and she warped out.

(Delta) Hidden, Forbidden, Holy grounds

Balmung of the Azure Sky warped in before a massive chapel. His hands in fists he marched into the building. There a mysterious entity awaited him.

“Balmung, you’ve surprised me by coming.” she said.

“I have no time for your games, hacker!” he shouted back.

“You never have time for me.” she replied.

Helba stood before him. “and yet, here you are.”

“In your message, you said that you knew something about the user reports. So what is it?”

“I wanted to tell you of your future involvement in ‘The World’. In lighter terms, a basic heads up. I assure you, to be prepared for everything that is to come, and to make more time for, oh say, me.” she said smiling.

“You sound guilty. I’ve reported you several times, and still you remain in this world. Just how is it your here?”

“That is not why I called you.” Helba said firmly waving her wand at Balmung. “I’ll have you know the name of the one in the reports.”

“Hm?”

“It’s Skeith.”
