The Future That I See
I looked ahead into the future,
The future of my son.
oOo
What I see is disturbing,
Terrifying,
Even heart breaking.
oOo
I see my son facing many perils,
Known and unknown,
Great and small.
oOo
I see him in darkness,
In rejection,
Betrayal.
oOo
I see him fighting against the odds,
Battling the forces of evil,
Struggling for his life.
oOo
I see on his face many shadows,
Shadows of grief and worry,
Of abuse, of weariness.
oOo
And I wonder,
Is this sort of life meant for anyone?
These ordeals and vexations?
Why must it be my son?
oOo
As I ponder these matters,
I notice something.
One thing I do not see is despair.
oOo
I look closer,
I see my son not alone in his life—
There is someone by his side.
oOo
I see them go hand in hand,
In tribulations,
Distresses,
Difficulties.
oOo
I see them chained and bound,
Cast into some forsaken place.
oOo
I see them emerge from a nightmare,
Bruised and pain-wracked,
Injured and in need.
oOo
But as they care for each other,
Love, and support,
Gentleness and devotion—
Is apparent on their faces.
oOo
A measure of peace settles in my heart.
For now I know,
No matter where my son goes—
To the edges of this world,
The lowest abyss,
Or utmost heaven—
There his brother will follow.
