Wash Me Away
“She’s so weak! Even I can take on Kagome.” A girl whispered to her companion. Kikyou could hear them all. She could hear every single of those wenches talking about her. But she was a benevolent person; never arguing back or standing up for herself.
“Hey you bitch! She can hear you, she’s not deaf. And she can kick your butt right now if she wanted to!” A voice howled. Kikyou spun around and smiled at her one and only friend, Sango. She mouthed a thank you to her and returned to her task of cleaning up.
A look in the mirror brought a smirk to her lips. She was pitiful; a nuisance to the world. I don’t deserve to be alive. I’m just wasting the clean air. She eventually got herself together and exited the washroom with Sango trailing closely behind.
“Kikyou, you shouldn’t let them say things like that to you.” Sango lectured.
Kikyou rolled her eyes in a playful way and proceeded to her locker. Sango continued to talk, but Kikyou was heeding her no attention. Instead her eyes were set to her locker. There stood Kagome along with her little posse. Kikyou immediately turned to leave. An empty hallway caught her interest and she bolted for it.
Sango eventually noticed her friend was missing and then she saw the reason why. Kagome and her group of evil beings approached Sango. “Where’s Kikyou?” she asked. Kagome shrugged and flipped her hair. “We have a student here by that name?” she mockingly said. Sango flew in the air, fiery burning by her side. Together they landed on Kagome. Sango threw mad punches everywhere, while the anger that fueled her vigor kicked itself silly towards Kagome.
Kikyou, on the other hand, was listening to the mad screams of her loyal buddy battling with her adversary. She nearly screeched when a hand came into her blurry view. Her demonic gaze tarnished when she saw who was in front of her.
There stood a handsome guy. His hair was dancing with a breathtaking shade of silver. It looked like ice, but not as hard. She took hold of his offered hand and he pulled her up.
“I’m sorry, but I didn’t mean to startle you.” He twisted every word in a way that made her heart jump a beat. She wiped away a tear and nodded. Kikyou started to leave, but his hand encircled her wrist.
“What is your name?” he asked coldly.
“Kikyou.” She replied. “I’m sorry but I didn’t catch your name.”
He smirked and retorted, “That’s because I didn’t throw it to you.” Her enthusiasm dropped and her face went back to its cold expression. He saw the hurt in her eyes and suddenly regretted his answer.
“Kikyou!” he yelled after her. Everyone in the hallway stared at him as if he was a lunatic on morphine, but he ignored their gawks. Kikyou was lost in an ocean of insane people already, but luckily he caught her.
“What is it that you want”, she continued, “Have you not already made a fool of me?”
“My name is Sesshomaru, and I wasn’t trying to embarrass you.” He apologized. “I’m new here and I don’t know any better.
Then Kagome came and butted in. “Excuse you Kikyou.” She knocked Kikyou to the side and turned to Sesshomaru. “Someone like you shouldn’t associate with the likes of her.” She pointed at Kikyou.
Kikyou exhaled the breath that she had been holding. She flashed Sesshomaru an imperceptible grin and walked away.
Don’t kid yourself Kikyou. As if someone like him would be friends with you.
Sesshomaru was unfortunately under Kagome’s control. She had blown Kikyou away, and was talking to him. The only things he paid any interest in though were the sentences with Kikyou in them. She was nice and kind. He could see it in her character and tone.
“Sesshomaru, Sesshomaru!” Kagome waved. “Well anyways, you should stay away from Kikyou. She’s just weird and creepy. Like if you hit her she won’t do anything. She’s so weak!”
Sesshomaru disapproved what he had just heard. Kikyou didn’t seem like the person to fight back, that was for sure. What bothered him though was the fact that Kagome and the rest of the school critically remarked Kikyou as weird. He pushed Kagome away and searched for his classes. She stared at him in disbelief and rolled her eyes.
The rest of his first day was miserable. He was cold towards everyone, especially the ones that irritated him. Kikyou was in most of his classes, but she ignored him throughout the day.
He sauntered to where she sat serenely. That’s when the weeping started. The sky wept sorrowful pellets of smoldering rain. Sesshomaru gaped when he saw that Kikyou was also suppurating. He wiped away a tear and was surprised to find that it was hot compared to the rest of her skin.
“Shouldn’t you be with new friends? I’m sure they wouldn’t want you to be seen with a person like me.” She choked. He laughed at her remark. “Wow, you think I would believe what they say?”
Sesshomaru looked at her. She was soaked to the bone. “I think we should get inside before you catch a cold.” He warned.
“I like the rain. It washes away my emotions.”
“Well if you don’t come inside it’s going to wash you away completely.” He chuckled. She smiled at his remark and stood up. They walked back to school together, but she stopped before they made it.
“Sesshomaru, I’m not worthy of your time. I don’t think you should befriend me!” She swallowed. He stared at her and frowned.
“Whatever. I really don’t give a damn if you’re my friend or not!” he yelled.
She watched him go and stood in the rain. She parked herself in the storm and let it wash away her unfeeling pain.
You’re so pitiful Kikyou! How can you even think of liking him, when you barely know him? What about Bandi, did you forget him already? Don’t you even remember why all these people despise you?
Flashback
Kikyou wept on the cold floor of the hospital. The only sound you could hear was a single long beep, and the pattering of rain hitting the window ledge. The lifeless body of her love lay still on the bed. Millions of tubes and wires were attached to his arms and legs. Slowly the nurse began to remove them. Kikyou gagged as they wheeled his corpse down the hall towards the lonely morgue.
She fell into an emotional coma that day; she would never come out alive. A year had passed and she went back to living her ‘normal’ life. She couldn’t live without him though, but that was alright because she’s dead. (In a sense) She was just a burden to the world now; another mouth to feed, another monster to kill.
A year had passed. Sango regularly came to check on her. One day she found Kikyou passed out on the ground with a bottle of empty pills in her hand. She was rushed to the hospital and then moved to a physiatrist. They gave her ‘suicidal and depression’ pills, but she never took them. She never did. Kikyou had tried to kill herself a countless number of times. She never succeeded, but one day she would. She would make sure of it!
Kikyou smiled to herself and proceeded to class. She halted when her stomach began to growl and flop. She took out a pill that was hidden in her pocket and threw it in her mouth. Kikyou made a u-turn and instead walked home.
