I’ll Always Be Beside You
I'm sorry to tell you all this, but this is the final chapter to this story. The sequel will come ASAP. For those of you that thought this, I know I ended up having my character and Retasu acting somewhat older than they already were, but hey, in the words of The Most Unlikely Angel, I know how I want my story to sound. Review for me, please. I'll try and make this as long as I can.
Retasu spun around in her bed and din't expect to find Jayme standing outside her window. "Jayme-san?" she asked curiously, wondering what he was doing here. For a second grade kid, he was always pretty athletic in P.E. class. He tapped on the window, mtoioning her to open it.
She nodded her head and quickly ran over and opened the window, helping to pull him inside. "Jayme-san, what are you doing here?" she asked in a whisper. He looked around cautiously, beads of sweat on his forehead and answered with a whisper into her ear. "Listen, Retasu-san. Before I tell you what I came here for, I just wanted you to know, that for these past three months, you were the best friend I could ask for." he whispered. This worried the emerald haired girl even more. "What are you trying to say, Jayme-san?" she asked worriedly.
He responded by putting his hand on her shoulder and placing his hand behind her ear and whispering more. "My dad is coming after me and my mom. I know him enough to know he'll go for those around the two of us as well. So...I'm going back to Germany with my mother, and I don't know if I'l.l. ever be able to come back here." he said with a strong scent of regret in his voice. This made her eyes well up with tears. She was going to lose the very first friend she ever had. "But...w-why? Why do you need to go?" she asked, getting louder with each word.
Jayme pushed his index finger against his lips and shushed her, fearing her parents could have heard her. "Because, my reason...is so you don't suffer the consequences. I've grown up over my years, and I know that you're not safe in this situation." he said, trying to hold back tears of his own. "But I promise, the first chance I get, when this is all over, I'l.l. come back."
This made Retasu start crying freely now. For all she knew, he wouldn't come back at all. This was going to be her last chance to ever see him, let alone speak to him, so she decided she wanted to remember every second of the last conversation she'd ever have with her best friend. "Jayme-san...I know I'm not going to be able to thank you enough for being my friend. But, if it can give you any hope in the future...I'l.l. always remember you. You were the very first, and best friend I could ever have. Arigato." she said while sniffling her tears, and gave him a thankful bow.
She was surprised to feel him grab her hand and put something in it. She looked and saw it was a tiny little chibi doll of her. "I made it that one arts and crafts class when you were sick two weeks ago." he said in explanation. She felt her cheeks become hotter as she tucked it in both her hands. "Thank you." she said almost mutely. She was lost in her millions of thoughts, and almost failed to feel one of his hands lightly pat her on the cheek. She looked up to him, and was lost for words. "I...I-I know you really meant well with this. I...just wish I had something for you to remember me by." she said sadly.
"You don't have to. Friendship is something you never forget." he said sounding like a wiseman. He started to turn around, when he was caught off guard by Retasu's newest action. She nearly tackled him when she ran after him and and snaked her arms over his shoulders, as if to keep him from leaving. He could hear her sniffling, trying to stop crying, but she also knew she couldn't stop that. "Don't forget to return, if you ever can." she muttered in agony. He simply sighed and turned around to face her. She looked up at him, her eyes turning red from all the tears. "I won't forget. I promise." he whispered.
Without thinking, Retasu got on her tiptoes and planted a small kiss on his cheek. They both became surprised beyond words at this, but tried to hide the blush in their cheeks. "Sayonara, Retasu Midorikawa." he whispered as he snuck to the window and climbed out after giving her a warm, but heartbreaking hug. She closed the window, placed the doll he had made on the shelf above her bed, and she collapsed in it, shouting his name repeatedly into her pillow. The next morning, Mr. and Mrs. Midorikawa couldn't get their daughter to stop crying for the rest of the day. They only wished, as well as her, that she could be happy again one day.
The End...for now.
I want you all to review this chapter. The sequel is called "Even When I'm Gone". I enjoyed making this story a lot, but I'm really going to work hard on the next one. Arigato to all my supporters.
