The slimy tentacles that made up his beard writhed as he staggered away from the all too familiar chest clasped in the man’s unforgiving hands. A tear slipped slowly out of his empty blue eye, trilling down his dank, coriaceous cheek.

The cold grey orbs stared, an amused smirk on his lips, as he lifted the still beating heart from the chest and held it tight in his fist. “Tell me, how does it feel?” Thump, thump, thump.

The sound reverberated in his hollow chest, the echoes of lost emotion tied to each beat.

“Oh, how the mighty have fallen.”
