Author’s Notes: Gah, that’s a lot of stuff right above. Um…I’ve never actually done a table before, so I hope I’m doing this justice. It’ll be kind of weird for me; I’m used to writing long, drawn-out arcs of an "epic" magnitude (according to one reviewer). I hope you guys enjoy!

My Beginning

It was the alcohol. It had to be.

That was the only plausible reason that Perry could think of for why the room was still spinning even though he was sitting down. It was the only explanation for the delightful lack of focus he had within his eyes. It was the only excuse for why he sat perched on the back of a ridiculously ugly lump of a couch.

And, without a doubt, it had to be the alcohol, because he would never have been caught dead sitting on the back of a ridiculously ugly couch, the room spinning, and not able to focus with JD.

JD, for his part, didn’t seem to notice or care about the lack of discomfort upon Perry’s face. He gripped the back of the couch tightly, remembering quite well what would happen (and inevitably did) when he let go of the back.

"You a drunkin’ slobber," JD said happily, fingers digging into the back of the couch.

Perry peered at the television, recognizing the late-night drabblings of an 80’s sitcom about happy families.

"That was never my family," Perry slurred out, pointing to the TV. He tried to remember how he had ended up at Gandhi’s apartment with Newbie. "My dad was a jerk."

JD nodded in an almost sage fashion. "Preach it."

Perry turned his head a bit too quickly, and found himself gripping the couch in a death-hold to stay upright.

"Owie!" JD whined, yanking at his hand. It was now trapped hard underneath Perry’s long fingers. "You and Elliot have fingers like gorillas."

"You’re a wimp, Barbara," Perry muttered, but he lifted his hand slightly. No, drunkenness around the kid just wasn’t good. Especially not when he felt something tingling over his fingers as he pulled his hand away.

He was dehydrated. That had to be it.

Perry looked at JD’s too-bright eyes for a moment, analyzing the dark red in the kid’s pale face.

"You’re too drunk to be a doctor," Perry said to him, and found it uncharacteristically funny. So much so that he had to push down the laughter. "But you’re too girly to be one too. You’re a girl."

"I’m not as thurly as you gink I am," JD pointed out, and shook his head. "Other way ‘round."

Perry shoved on his shoulder, deciding the kid had earned his "touch" for the day. He tried to remember again how he had ended up at the apartment in the first place, but the earlier memories of the night were fuzzy at best.

Oh yeah. He remembered now.

Jordan.

And he would blame her for the rest of his life for what was happening now.

JD felt the hand connect with his shoulder hard, and lost his tenuous grip on the couch. He let his arms flail a bit, reaching out for anything he could grab.

Unfortunately, the first thing his fingers wrapped around happened to be Perry’s shirt, and they both hit the floor with a thud.

"What the hell, Newbie? I’m not that drunk."

"You don’t own space…so stop actin’ like ya do," JD replied smartly, and began to giggle again.

"You’re an idiot," Perry retorted, shaking his head in something akin to disgusted affection as he flicked JD over the ear.

JD whined again, yanking a hand to the smarting ear. His fingers connected with something not belonging to him, and he realized he was once again holding Perry’s hand. JD blinked at Perry owlishly in a suspicious fashion.

"So’s your face," JD smarted back. "Hello!"

"That doesn’t make any sense."

"So’s your face."

"Stop saying that, Clara," Perry snapped, and let his head hit the floor behind him. This was as good a place as any, wasn’t it? And the floor was supposed to be good for the back, wasn’t it? And if Jordan hadn’t kicked him out of the house for the night, this wouldn’t be happening.

JD looked over at Perry, and poked his shoulder. "What’cha thinkin’ about?"

"How I’m going to kill you slowly." Perry suddenly felt something on his hand, and realized with a little more then strong discomfort that JD’s fingers were still wrapped around the hand that rested on the younger man’s shoulder.

"Why’d Jordan kick you out?" JD asked, the slur still evident enough in his voice.

Perry shrugged. "How the hell should I know and why the hell should I care? Let go of my hand, Newbie." He noted again that the kid flushed hard as he released it. He continued to stare at the pallid, blushing cheeks. It was kind of cute really.

"What?" JD asked suddenly, face going darker.

Perry blinked this time; he hadn’t said that out loud, had he? God, this wasn’t the time, no way, not now, not ever, and the skin of JD’s neck was just soft enough that it’d bruise so easily with just the barest hint of teeth, not to mention how pretty it looked with that pulse beating hard against the surface, and sweet Christ, the kid had a nice mouth…

Perry opened his eyes abruptly against the frozen mouth connected to his own. He looked into bluish-green eyes that were wide with surprise and terror at the same time.

JD was certain that he was about to die. Hell, he was going to go out with a fight in that case. He finally shut his eyes, prayed to six different gods in seven different ways, and slid his mouth against Perry’s quickly, mouth opening slightly against the other older man’s.

Perry stiffened on the floor. Christ, the kid even kissed like a girl…he’d have to remedy that.

Except when he swept an arm around JD’s waist, the kid half-melted against him in surprise, and Perry grinned against that vaguely sloppy mouth. He tasted like apples.

JD yanked away suddenly, face white and terrified. "Am I going to die?" he blurted out.

Perry grunted, rolling over to his back again. "Not tonight, Newbie." He turned his head again, eyes threatening to slip closed in sleep. "You taste like those stupid appletinis that you keep chugging."

"They’re tasty." JD wrinkled his nose, and glared at him. "You taste like scotch."

"That’s because I’m a man, Tina." Perry pulled JD back to him, and kissed him again in a quick, hard fashion as he ran a tongue over JD’s lips once more. "Yeah. Appletini all the way."

JD giggled against his mouth, letting his head fall back to the floor with a thunk. "They’re tasty. Not soapy like scotch."

Perry snorted. "Scotch just means I’m not gay. Appletinis just mean you are."

"M’not gay, you’re the gay one. You kissed me."

Perry growled at him, and rolled so that he was lying directly over JD’s face. JD winced at the sudden weight against him that wasn’t all together unpleasant.

Whatever Perry had been about to say died on his lips, and he planted his mouth firmly back to JD’s again. Christ, what the hell had gotten into him tonight? Whatever it was, it was making his hand drift under JD’s shirt to his side. JD’s hands were fisted in his hair by this time, playing with the scruffy curls.

It was the alcohol. It had to be. He was drunk at the beginning of this, it only made sense now.

It was the reason he had been spinning around while sitting still. It was the excuse for why he wasn’t able to focus. And it was the only plausible explanation for why he now lay on the hardwood floor with someone he wasn’t even sure he liked, kissing that person like the end of the world was happening.

The end of the world did happen, much in the fashion of the front door opening.

Perry jerked away, hitting his head against JD’s as he rolled to the side.

"Oh…my god…I didn’t…see…no, nothing. Carla asked me to get her some tampo…some girl stuff, carry on!" Elliot screeched in a frazzled tone, slamming her bedroom door behind her.

JD winced at the pitch, and turned to look at Perry. "She does that."

"Barbie never ceases to annoy."

"So what’s it mean?"

Perry shrugged as he struggled to sluggishly sit up, rolling a hand over his face. "It’s the beginning of a whole lot of trouble, Gretchen, that’s what." He stood drunkenly, and pointed around the room briefly. "Where’s the bed?"

JD didn’t feel like he could move, but found a warm hand jerking him to his feet. He pointed in the direction that he hoped was his bedroom.

"Thatta’way," JD said, and giggled again as he ran into the doorframe. "Ouchies…"

"You’re such a girl." Perry pushed him into the room, and then to the bed.

JD grabbed him down with him at that point. "It’s the beginnin’ of somethin’ nice, is what this is."

Perry growled at him again. "Talk again and I’ll smother you."

Author’s Notes: Not quite as short as I would’ve liked, but I’ve never been one for writing short stuff. Hope this suffices for the table!
