Blue Seed: The Golden Mitama

Chapter One: A New Aragami?!

By Suki-Saki-14

Author’s Note: I've finally made my first step back into fanfiction! Muahaha!! Anyways, this fanfic is my very first attempt at a Blue Seed fanfic. Hopefully, I will be able to keep all characters the way they are in the anime. (smiles sheepishly) Also, I want readers to know I will try my hardest to prevent my OC from going Mary-Sue on them! Therefore, I will highly appreciate it if readers keep track on how my OC does in everything and let me know when I have crossed the line between Mary-Sue and regular OC. With all of that set aside, please allow me to announce my gratitude and thanks to readers for choosing this fanfic to read. Thank you all very much! Now, let us move on to the story!

Disclaimer: I do not, I repeat, do NOT own Blue Seed or any of its characters! I am just a crazy fan who wanted to see more from the characters! I am merely a teenager and I have absolutely noOo money! So, please do not sue because those who do will only get squat!

The full moon shined brightly down upon the Tokyo streets. A soft breeze blew through the city and gave off a sense of peace. In the park, a lone woman was attending to her daily schedule of jogging through the park. The many trees prevented most of the moon’s light from reaching her. All around her, there was only shade and dim darkness. Still, the woman was unafraid and pursued her schedule, continuing on.

As she approached a bench, she stopped to take a breath. Pulling a water bottle from her side pack, she downed several gulps. She sighed as she lowered the bottle and wiped the sweat from her forehead with her free hand. The snapping of a branch caught the woman’s attention and she looked toward the darkness between the trees for the source. She saw nothing and shrugged off her nerves. Replacing her water bottle, she took off again in a light jog.

Along the way, she swore she heard heavy footsteps following behind her. Every time she stopped to look back, though, no one was behind her. Eventually, the woman came upon the crossroad. Most of the time, she’d turn left and continue jogging around the park. Today, she decided her schedule would stop a little shorter than usually. As she approached the crossroads, she turned to the right and stopped short.

Standing a few yards ahead of her, there was a figure hunched over another figure. A deafening crunch rang in the woman’s ears. She feared to know what was going on before her. She backed away and a branch snapped beneath the weight of her right foot. The figure looked up and revealed red, glowing eyes along with a glowing seed right above them. The woman opened her mouth to scream but it was muffled when she was pulled back from behind, only to remember seeing the horrifying figure of a skeletal canine before darkness and pain took over her senses.

Ding dong…ding dong…ding dong…

“Coming!” A brown-haired young woman called as she ran toward the front door. She opened the door and was greeted by a middle-aged man and a slightly younger woman. “Mr. Kunikida, Ryoko!” She threw her arms around both figures and hugged them. “How have you two been doing?” She pulled back and backed away. “Come in, come in.”

The couple bowed to their host and entered the house. “Thank you for accepting us, Momiji,” Kunikida said. “I know it was unexpected when we called you but…”

“That’s all right, Mr. Kunikida,” Momiji replied with a wave of her hand. “You and Ryoko are always welcome in my home.” She smiled. “You two did help me get this apartment.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Kunikida said half-heartedly.

“What’s wrong, Mr. Kunikida?” Momiji asked.

Ryoko placed a hand on Kunikida’s shoulder. “I’ll tell her, Daitetsu,” she said and stepped toward Momiji. “Momiji…there’s been an attack.”

Momiji’s brows furrowed with confusion. “What…do you mean?” she asked.

“In the park…there’s been an Aragami attack on a woman.” Momiji’s eyes widened with shock. “She was found a couple days ago.”

Momiji leaned against the back of her couch and placed a hand over her heart. “An…Aragami?” she whispered. “How do you know it’s an Aragami?”

“There was some substance left behind at the scene,” Kunikida explained. “A sample was given to Ms. Matsudaira to study and she called us yesterday morning.”

“How…” Momiji said softly. “…How can it be?” Her face was completely covered with shock. “The Aragami have been gone for nearly five years!”

Kunikida sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “We had an idea that it was the Aragami but we didn’t want to tell you first because I knew you’d be upset.” He shoved his hands into his pants pockets. “Now that we’ve confirmed it though, we’ll have to ensure your safety once again.” He approached her side and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Momiji. We’ll take care of everything if anything gets out of hand.”

Momiji looked up and smiled. “Will you be bringing the TAC back together, Mr. Kunikida?” she asked.

Kunikida laughed. “I don’t know about that.” He folded his arms over his chest. “As of right now, that might not necessary.”

“Oh…”

Ryoko’s cell phone rang throughout the room, startling the trio. Ryoko apologized, answered the phone, and slipped away for privacy. Momiji looked at Kunikida who smiled warmly. Then, Ryoko rushed into the room with an urgent expression. Momiji and Kunikida looked at her with concern and expectation.

“Matsudaira has called all the former TAC members together,” Ryoko explained.

Momiji and Kunikida looked at each other. Kunikida sighed. “Right,” he said. “Let’s go.”

“Take me with you, Mr. Kunikida!” Momiji stated pleadingly.

Kunikida looked down at Momiji and smiled. “Of course, Momiji.” He patted her head. “You are a part of the TAC.”

“Right!” Momiji exclaimed cheerily.

Momiji sat in the back of the car while Ryoko drove with Kunikida in the passenger seat. Momiji stared off into the landscape while her mind drifted off. She thought back on the last time she and the other TAC members had fought an Aragami. It was nearly five years ago in California with Valencia. An image of a teenaged girl with long red hair flashed through Momiji’s mind. She wondered where the girl was now and if she was doing okay in California by herself.

Suddenly, the image of the skeletal figure of a canine flashed through her mind. Her vision straightened and she saw a similar form following alongside the car in the shadows off to the side of the road. Momiji saw the fiery red eyes and a glowing seed above them. She gasped and managed a minor scream just before the creature rammed into the side of the car, sending it off the road. The car flipped over twice and landed upside down.

Momiji glanced around to see if the others were okay. Ryoko and Kunikida were trying to free themselves from their seatbelts. Momiji heard panting and looked to her right, screaming when she saw red eyes. The creature snarled and tried to dig its way into the car to attack Momiji. She screamed and struggled to free herself from the seat belt. A pound to her left made her look over. She saw another one of the creatures and screamed.

Suddenly, the creature disappeared. Momiji stopped struggling and strained to see what happened to the creature. She gasped when she saw a flash of a figure. It sent memories of the first time she was saved by the very same figure. Her heart fluttered with hope and she wondered if he had finally returned. Kusanagi…the name passed through her mind repeatedly and she hoped it was him.

A bone-chilling shriek filled the air and sent shivers up Momiji’s spine. She looked around and wondered what happened. Ryoko and Kunikida managed to free themselves from their seatbelt. Informing Momiji to stay put, they both crawled out of the car to check the surrounding area. While they were gone, a figure jumped down beside the car and, kneeling, reached into the car.

Momiji recognized the gloved hand and felt her heart flutter. She hastily took hold of the hand. She saw Kusanagi move in and cut the seatbelt holding her before he pulled her out of the car. She was pulled into his warm chest and felt his muscular arms as they wrapped around her petite figure. She closed her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his waist. Of its own volition, a tear trickled down her cheek.

“Kusanagi,” she whispered gently.

“Momiji,” he said softly. “Are you all right?”

Momiji nodded into his chest. “I…I think so,” she replied.

“Momiji,” Ryoko said as she and Kunikida returned.

Momiji pulled away from Kusanagi and looked over her shoulder at the couple. They stared at Kusanagi in awe. He pulled Momiji to his side and took a hold of her hand. He smiled and bowed his head.

“Hello,” he greeted. “It seems that the former TAC members still can’t protect the Kushinada by themselves.”

“It was an unexpected attack,” Kunikida announced. “We weren’t expecting the Aragami to appear before Momiji so soon.”

“Regardless, you should’ve been more cautious,” Kusanagi noted. “Even if the Aragami was gone during the last five years, Momiji still had to be protected. We can never be too sure of whether the Aragami will return or not.”

“Where were you during the last three years then?” Ryoko asked with an accusing tone. “You just up and left one day.”

“Ryoko…” Momiji whispered for the older woman to stop. She felt Kusanagi’s arm tighten around her waist. She looked up at him to see his mouth was a thin line. “Kusanagi…”

“I know…leaving behind Momiji was really painful for her,” he announced in a strained voice. “It wasn’t easy for me either!” He glared at Ryoko. Momiji’s gentle hand on his arm allowed him to restrain himself. He took a deep breath and sighed. “I’m taking Momiji to the meeting first.” He grabbed a tight hold of Momiji and jumped off before the older couple could protest.

Ryoko sighed as Kunikida chuckled. “What’s so funny, Daitetsu?” she asked.

Kunikida shook his head. “Nothing,” he answered. “It’s just that…he is still the same after such a long time.”

Ryoko managed a small smile. “Yeah…you’re right.”

Momiji wrapped her arms around Kusanagi’s neck as he flew through the air. The cool air touching her bare flesh paid as a reminder that she had helped Kusanagi in successfully flying. She remembered that he bore the mitama she had taken from Orochi. The events of her first encounter with an Aragami flooded into her mind and sent chills down her back. Every time she thought of that day, she couldn’t help but remember Kusanagi’s harsh words of wanting to kill her.

“What are you thinking?” Kusanagi asked.

“Huh? Oh…nothing.” Momiji looked up at his face. “I’m glad that you’re back, Kusanagi.”

A small smile teased the edges of his lips. “I think I am, too,” he replied.

“Where did you go?” she asked. “That is…if you don’t mind me asking.”

He chuckled softly. “No where in particular, actually,” he answered. “I needed time to think and just needed to get away.”

“About us?” she asked meekly.

Kusanagi’s smile was fully evident now. “I guess you can say that,” he replied. “I reached my conclusion and was on my way back when I felt the presence of an Aragami.”

“Oh,” she said.

Silence passed for several minutes until Kusanagi broke it. “You don’t want to know what my conclusion was?” he questioned.

Momiji smiled. “I’ll wait until you’re ready to tell me,” she replied. “I could wait forever now that you’re back.”

Kusanagi smiled and leaned into the crevice of her neck. He whispered softly into her ear and she smiled, pulling back to look at him. He smiled back and kissed her forehead. Then, he lowered them down to the top of the building where Matsudaira had set the meeting to be held.

I’ll always stay by your side no matter what happens…
