Fallen Angel: Sapphire Rapture

Disclaimer: All characters in this chapter are © SEGA/SonicTeam, except the robot designs, which are mine :P

Author’s Note: Right, back up to four fics in progress at a time. I like to write several at once, as I try to update them on a rota so that it gives me a chance to change what I want to write. This is the sequel to Fallen Angel: Revival, and the last in my Fallen Angel series. It will be a bit darker than the previous two, and hopefully interesting. Rating is for future bad language and violence.

Please note that you do not have to have read the first Fallen Angel to understand this one, but knowledge of Fallen Angel: Revival would be helpful.

Part 1: It’s Raining…

Thunder boomed through the air, as the storm clouds broke overhead. The first spatters of rain hit the ground lightly, rapidly increasing in numbers and falling heavier. The narrow alleyways of the slums were little shelter from the pounding rain, especially with the cold wind that writhed its way through the streets. The derelict buildings loomed in the haze of the falling water, and the few people out on the streets ran for shelter silently. Lightning lit up the sky briefly, illuminating the cold, grey city, before vanishing to be replaced by more peals of thunder.

One rain-soaked figure walked calmly down the streets, heedless of the metallic sentries at the end of the road. The kangaroo-shaped robots focused glowing red lenses on the matted fur of the person as he stopped just in front of them, with large, twin-tails waving. One of them caught sight of the dark purple gemstone that was tied to the fox’s tool-belt, and crouched down, ready to jump. The fox grinned, his eyes covered by his sodden fringe, and he leapt into the air. The crouching robot’s spring-loaded legs propelled it high into the air, to just above the fox, and it swung its massive tail at him; aiming directly for his head; as it came back down.

But the fox had moved to the side, avoiding the kangaroo with a swift spin of his tails. He took to rotating them rapidly, and the helicopter motion kept him airborne as the robots jumped for him again. The target flipped over, catching one robot in his spinning appendages and sending it crashing into the other, which in turn knocked them both out of the sky and into the side of one of the buildings. The metal bodies dropped to the ground in a crumpled, sparking heap, and the fox laughed coldly, before turning his attention to somewhere outside of this destitute metropolis. With a whirl of his tails he flew from the crumbling city, sending swirls through the rain as he left.

The white bat adjusted the customised backpack she was wearing; which allowed for her black wings to move freely; and slipped out from the alleyway in which she had been hiding. She tapped on one of the mangled kangaroo-robots with her black gloved hand, and pulled a wire from it, connecting it to her watch. While she observed the display on the timepiece show a bar that gradually filled, she made sure that no-one was watching her. Nobody was. All the windows were boarded up, as they had been for years, and no-one wanted to be outside in this pouring rain, especially with the patrolling sentries like these robots. A small beep attracted her attention back to the watch, and the bat observed that it had finished downloading the data from the robots. She nodded and stood up, then looked in the direction that the twin-tailed fox had flown.

“Two more sentries have been destroyed.” The soft female voice of the computer announced.

“Replace them and enforce their ranks by two.” A metallic chime replied, echoing around the control room. “We can’t let him think that he’s boss can we?”

“Please rephrase the question.”

“Stupid machine.” The metal voice gave a grating growl. “Arm the sentries this time.”

“Acknowledged.”

“And ensure that the cells are locked down well” The voice gave a small, sharp laugh as the computer replied with the news that the cell-rooms were at maximum security. “This time ‘old Eggman’ is not going to mess things up for me!”

The twin-tailed fox pushed his way into his hidden base. It was tucked away inside a cliff that fell in a sheer drop to the blackened ocean below, and therefore virtually inaccessible to anyone who could not fly. The entrance was camouflaged to blend in with the cliff-face; so that even if someone could fly they’d have a hard time finding it; and was locked with a set of codes for extra security. He’d taken a long time in ensuring that the camouflage worked before this had started, and in that respect had been lucky, as the small workshop that had once occupied the cliff-top above had been destroyed not long after his friend had been killed. He’d not been discovered yet, and was certain that he wouldn’t be discovered in the future.

So he was surprised when he noticed the bat quite happily drying her hair as she leaned against the wall in front of him. Her turquoise eyes caught the glare of his pale blue ones, and she smiled coquettishly at him. He folded his arms and growled, which only got a shrug and a wink from her.

“Long time no see, Tails. My how you’ve grown”

Tails growled again. He was not in the mood to put up with this bat.

“Not even going to say ‘hello’ to your old friend Rouge?” Rouge shook her head. “Knuckles told me you didn’t speak anymore.”

Tails tapped a foot impatiently, the purple jewel that hung on the chain from his belt knocking against the side of his leg. Rouge looked at it, then smiled at the fox again.

“It’s raining.”

This is just an introduction chapter, the next parts should be longer. But I don’t have time to post them now, and besides, I have other fics to continue first :P Keep an eye out, it shouldn’t take too long before this is updated again.
