A/N: I decided to start this fic on my friends recommendation so I dedicate it to her. To you, K.
5/4/1997 Dear Diary,
Today started out as your basic average day. I got up at seven, went downstairs and ate my usual breakfast of toast and tea. I was reading one of my favorite novels, which I hide in my library books, and just enjoying life. After a while I started to wonder where on Earth Harry and Ron were. Ginny said she hadn’t seen them. Fred and George showed up right at this moment muttering darkly about a traitor.
“Who’s a traitor, eh Gents?” Ginny asked.
“Whasagoinon?” Ron asked from his cereal bowl. Goodness me. I hadn’t even noticed him.
Fred and George just looked over towards the Slytherin table. Ginny and I followed their gazes’. Ron had gone back to sleep. Harry was sitting with Goyle of all people! I whacked Ron in the arm and made him look. He stared slack jawed as Harry got into a conversation with Malfoy. The five of us were very confused.
A little while later in our first class of the day, Harry was still talking to Malfoy. They were going on about the different aspects of brooms. Ginny actually followed us down to the dungeons. Actually she is in advanced placement potions. I just forgot that at the time. The four of us were sitting at a table when Slughorn announced the project.
“You will work in groups of three or partners. I want you to brew me polyjuice potion. Can you all handle that?” I rolled my eyes with my head in my book. I mean, it’s not often you get assigned a N.E.W.T. level potion that you happened to brew when you were in second year. “Now you get to pick your partners.” Ginny, Ron and I started trying to figure out how four could be split up properly since we all wanted to work together. We thought that Harry could butter up Slughorn into letting us work as four. But as we were discussing this, Harry got up and walked across the room to Malfoy’s table.
The three of us went slack jawed.
“I guess we’re working together,” I said slowly, my eyes still on Harry.
“Apparently,” Ginny replied.
Later, as Ginny and Ron went up to Trelawney’s with me following them (Because I had a free period) we hotly discussed Harry’s betrayal.
“Yeah. He’s about as straight as a Quaffle,” Ron commented angrily.
“Ron,” Ginny whined. “He’d not that bad.”
“Oh excuse me. I forgot you were in love with him!” Ron retorted. I shook my head. For posterity’s sake, I will post my best interpretations of the situation here.
Let’s examine the situation, shall we?
Harry starts hanging out with Malfoy.
We get an assignment.
Harry opts to work with Malfoy instead of us.
The emotions of all of us:
Ron: pissed at Harry.
Harry: Mad at Ron for being pissed.
Ginny: torn between hatred and love for Harry and delirious with joy at officially being the shortest person in the fifth year.
Hermione: completely disappointed in all of them
I honestly will never understand my friends.
By the end of the day, I was ready to forgive Harry. Ginny had never been too mad at him in the first place. Ron seemed okay too. Just as long as Harry stopped talking to Malfoy. All in all, it has been a very long Friday. Now if you’ll excuse me, The Lord of the Rings calls.
Night,
Hermione
So… What did you think? This is set in a fictional time frame. That is why they are in sixth year and Fred and George are there. Eventually George/Hermione. A new ship for me. Sorry those of you who don’t like it.
