A Series About Denji
Title: The Secret of Ooba
Genre: General/Humor
Characters: Denji, Hikari, Oba, Mukkuru
Pairing(s): None
Summary: Hikari brings an Itemfinder for Denji. They use them to find out a very...unusual secret about a certain red-haired afro-head friend of theirs...
AN: There's a seriously sad lack of stories out there about Denji. So, to solve this problem, I have decided to write a series of drabbles about our favorite Sinnoh Gym Leader. By the way, Denji is Volkner, Hikari is Dawn, Mikan is Jasmine, Mukkuru is Starly, and Ooba is Flint. This story was inspired by two comics I read, but it's in Japanese, so meh. Anyways, edits done by mbm238 and her friend clouded leopard.

The Secret of Oba
“So, what are these for, anyway?”
Two people could be seen standing in the Nagisa Pokémon Gym lobby. One was a blond-haired, blue-eyed man who looked like he was around his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing an odd blue jacket with what looked like golden orbs sewn to the sleeve. His companion was a girl who looked like she was in her mid-teens. She had somewhat long, midnight blue hair that was hidden under a white cap and her face was alighted with cheerful blue eyes. Her clothing was somewhat odd as well, for her pink skirt and white shirt was hidden under a black dress with a frayed hem.
They were staring at two odd objects that were in the blond's hand. The girl had given him the two identical items and he had no idea what they were. The girl giggled, making the blond blush a little with embarrassment. “These two rods make up an item called an Itemfinder,” she explained. “Mikan-san gave them to me. She says that in the Johto region, people use these to find hidden items instead of the Dowsing Machine we have on our Pokétchs. Apparently, you hold them out before you and walk around. They beep if they located a hidden item and beep louder the closer you get to it. Honestly, Denji-san, didn't you know about this?”
Denji frowned. “Hey, it's not my fault that I didn't know. After all, our region is more, as we might say, technically advanced.” He looked at the two bent rods in his hands. “Still, why did Mikan give these to you?”
The girl laughed and shrugged. “I don't know, but aren't they fascinating?”
“You do know that only old people say 'fascinating', right, Hikari?”
“Are you saying that I'm old?!”
“Who knows? You might look younger than me, but...”
“I'll have you know that I'm only fourteen! And I'm about to turn fifteen too! I am so younger than you!”
“Sure, you keep telling yourself that, Granny.”
“DENJI!”
Sounds of laughter could be heard throughout the Gym as the Trainers sweat dropped at their Leader's antics. Honestly, they had never seen him so jovial. This only happened after Hikari's battle with him, and he only seemed that happy whenever she was around. They were starting to miss their old Leader.
Several Days Later...
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
“Eh?” Denji looked at the Itemfinder. It was beeping wildly. The Leader looked up in the direction the rods were pointing in. They were pointing at the red-haired afro-head friend of his, Oba. “What the...?” He walked up to his friend and the Itemfinder beeped so loud that the Electric Trainer was sure that the entire city could hear it.
Hikari chose at that moment to walk in. “Ohayo, Denji-san—ah! What the—?!” She quickly clamped her hands over her ears and glare accusingly at the blond. “What's going on here?” she yelled over the loud beeping.
“I don't know!” Oba said, running over to Hikari. Instantly, the beeping stopped.
Hikari looked at Denji. He looked at her. They both turned and looked at Oba. The faint beeping started again. Denji walked over to the two and held the Itemfinder up to the red-head's afro. The beeping intensified instantly. Denji quickly put the rods away and crossed his arms, looking at his friend with a smirk. “Just as I thought,” he said triumphantly. “There's something hidden in your afro!”
“Hunh?” Oba reached up and patted his afro. “What are you talking about? Sure, I keep my Pokéballs in here whenever I don't feel like carrying them around my waist, but I don't have anything else in there...I think.”
“You think?” Hikari said, cocking an eyebrow. She gave Denji a look.
The Electric Trainer grinned and dove his hand into Oba's afro. “Eh?” Denji gave a look of confusion before pulling out a Mukkuru. The Pokémon gave him a Pokémon grin and perched itself on Oba's shoulder. Denji blinked. Hikari blinked. Oba blinked. Mukkuru chirped happily. The three Trainers looked at the Pokémon and then looked at each other. Silence dominated the room.
Mukkuru chirped again and flapped its wings, breaking the silence. “Um,” Denji blinked once again before putting his hand back in the afro. “Hey!” He pulled out a plate with a slice of strawberry cake. “There's cake in here!” He grinned happily and began to pull plate after plate of cake out. “Here's chocolate, and vanilla, and coffee, and mocha, and mint chocolate chip, and coconut—wait!” he stared at the plate with the coconut cake on it. “...I hate coconut cake,” he said, throwing it at Oba. He wiped his hands and grinned. “Right, let's go eat these cakes!”
“Right!” Hikari replied with an equally big grin. The two left with all the cakes Denji pulled out of Oba's hair. Mukkuru followed after them.
Oba was left to mourn over his cake-i-fied hair. “N-no, my afro!”
Owari
Ahahah, that was completely random and pretty much pointless. I don't really like the ending, but meh.
