A/N - I am a big Don fan and I love how well his character is scripted across the (or so far) three seasons. I always wanted to explore his relationship with Special Agent Megan Reeves so here goes, my first Numb3rs fanfic ever to be posted on enjoy and offer constructive criticism if neccessary.

Don didn't know how he got there that night. He guessed it had something to do with his wonderment, his desire not to miss a single thing. Maybe it was the FBI agent in him, the idea that he couldn't let anything go in case it brought about dire consequences. Maybe he just over-analyzed everything.

It didn't change the fact that he was sat out in his Tahoe though did it. No there he was, the dim lights from the street illuminating only the side of his features. His eyes, deep and brown as they were, looked out the windshield deep in contemplation before he took another look out the side window at the house.

It stood there, one floor only, with it's windows lit up behind blue curtains. Meant she was home. Now all he had to do was cross the boundary between them.

It took more than steps did it not? It wasn't just a matter of climbing out of this vehicle and crossing to her door. No it was more than that. It was crossing lines that maybe shouldn't be crossed. It was crossing from friend to lover, from partner to boyfriend. He was her boss, she was hardly a simple 'employee' to any of them but she still worked under him.

Sometimes his thoughts did in fact lead her to be under him caught in the throws of a passion-filled night. Those thoughts and dreams got him going, made him want her badly, but he always awoke feeling guilty as if in some way he had violated her.

He couldn't go back on whatever he said in there. He couldnt admit what he felt, then take it all back. Not only would that be one of the cruelest things he could do but it would also make him lose the respect he had gained from her these last two years. He had to make sure he knew what he was doing before he actually made a move.

But if he wasted much more time then his phone would ring and he'd have to go. Someone else would need him and he'd have lost this time for her and him.

Now was the time. He didn't know when they'd get a spare moment alone to do this again and he wasn't about to talk to her privately at the FBI offices.

So he took the steps. He climbed down. He walked to her door. He knocked. He waited.

And when she opened it he kissed her, not wasting any more time in skirting the issue in his mind. He had to make his feelings known and now, more than ever, was the right time.

She was shocked, her hands came up but then they found him, grasping him close. The moment lost awkwardness it had once reeked of and became the moment his dreams had created.

He had succeeded and all in the matter of four minutes. A seemingly simple time but the beginning of something beautiful.
