To Dream the Impossible
Cephied Variable
She shudders anyways, and Fye wraps a long arm around her shoulders and pulls her close. His embrace isn't as warm as it used to be, but she still leans into it. She buries her face in his shoulder so she won't have to look at Syaoran anymore. The Syaoran who isn't Syaoran even though he has the same impossibly kind face and the same impossibly soft voice but not the same impossibly beautiful eyes because even though this new boy looks at her with impossible sympathy, the other Syaoran looked at her with impossible... impossible familiarity.
"Fye-san..." she asks in a small voice, "Have you ever been in love?"
Fye blinks a little, like he's coming out of a dream, and slowly raises a hand to rest his fingertips on his cheek, just below his hollow eye-socket. He has a far away look in his remaining eye. It's the kind of look he always has when he sees snow. The kind of look that makes Sakura want to hold him instead.
He doesn't answer for a very long time.
"I used to think so." he says tenderly, "But I've been known to be wrong from time to time."
Sakura knows she isn't wrong, which is probably why it hurts so much. She wishes she could lie half as well.
