Chapter one
“The man”
“I can’t believe mom and dad made us come out for this.” A very frustrated Ashley Banks says to her cousin Will Smith as he drove them to the bank at 11 O’clock.
“Ash, you know Carlton’s sick. Aunt Viv & uncle Phill need this check for all the medice and stuff” Will says, a little impatiently, pulling into an empty spot in the bank’s parking lot.
“At least it’s summer, and we can do this stuff.”
Soon, the two cousins go inside, walking past a very shady man standing alone in the corner. Will noticed, but kept walking so he doesn’t scare Ashely.
While Will was cashing the check, sixteen year old Ashley saw the gumball machine and decided to get one. Suddenly, the lights flicker, and the man Will saw earlier had disapeared. A voice came over the loudspeaker, a voice that would haunt both Will & Ashley..if they lived to see another day.
“Attention. This is a bomb threat. There’s a bomb hidden in her, a place only I know. I set it for a minute and fourty-five seconds. Don’t even try to excape, I’ve locked all the doors from the outside. And all connections from the outside have been cut. Anyone tries to call the athorities, I got a gun right here.”
The voice goes off, as laughter could be heard throughout the bank.
Will looked at Ashley, who dropped the gum from her hand that she had just bought. Slowly, stlll in shock, Will moves over to only noise is the ticking of the time bomb somewhere overhead.
“Will, I’m scared..what’s going to happen?”
Will didn’t really know how to answer that question, but he knew what he had to do.
“I’ll protect you Ashely. I promise this loon won’t hurt you.” He says, holding onto his little cousin tight.
Ashley held him back, tight. After a minute, Will relized she was holding him a little too tight, to the point where he couldn’t breathe. He gently reached behind him, loosening her grip on him, he went back to holding onto her.
“How much longer?” a small voice, coming from Ashley cuddled in Will’s arms, said softly.
“I don’t know. Try not to think about it. It’ll be okay.”
“But the bomb, listen, it’s getting quicker. It-“
Will felt rumbling and a sudden huge explosion, coming from the hallway to his right. He held Ashley tighter, burying his face into her neck, still protecting her head.
Soon, the bomb stopped. Ashley felt it and looked up, slowly. She felt weak, and a heavy figure limp over her sholder. She looked up, and in horror, she relized the figure was Will.
Franticly, Ashley looked around. She relized the bank was no longer around them. Ashley looked up and her eyes met with the sun, high and bright.
“Will, Will, come on. Wake up now, stop pretending..Will!” She screamed, horrified, and hysterical. Suddenly, she heard the piercing sound of the ambulence coming nearer. Feeling dizy, Ashley’s world went black.
The next thing Ashley Banks knows, she’s being wheeled into the hospital. She looks around and sees unfamilair faces. She lets out a weak scream.
“WILL!” she shouts, which isn’t too easy, seeing that she has a oxygen mask over her nose and mouth, so it came back as more of a “ghill!”
One of the EMTs heard her and looked down.
“It’s okay, honey. Everything’s gonna be fine.” She said gently. What she didn’t know is that didn’t satisfy Ashley, at all.
Before she knew it, she was in the ER, being treated. Ashely was more than panicked now. She wanted to know Will is okay. She wanted to feel him hug her. She’d never been through something like this, and she had no idea how to react, or what to feel. Soon, the doctors left, and she was left with searing pain in her side.
ASHLEY’S POV
I guess I was okay after that, because I was left alone.
“Where’s mom, where’s dad? Is Will okay? Do they even know?”
So many things were running through my mind. I felt like I was going crazy.
Soon, there was a soft knock, and I was more than relived to see it was Carlton and Hilary, my siblings, coming to see me. It looked like they were crying.
Carlton hurried over after he saw me. Hugging him tight, I suddenly felt like letting it all go. I sobbed. I felt Hilary stroking my hair.
“W-will..where’s Will?” I managed to studder out. Carlton stood back and looked at me.
I suddenly regreted asking. I had the worst feeling from the looks on their faces.
“Will’s pretty seriously hurt. His whole side is all torn up. His doctor said he’s in a serious shocked state. They think he’s going into a coma.” Carlton said, saying that whole thing looking down from me and my sister.
I started sobbing again. This couldn’t be happening. Will takes care of me. He always has. Since the day he came to live with us. I don’t know what to do. Finallly, I got up enough strength to ask my siblings a question I’m not sure I want to happen.
“Can I see him?”
Carlton and Hillary look at each other.
“Yeah. Come on.”
Carlton helps me up and into a wheelchair. Hillary puts blanket on me. It’s the blanket I got when Will came. I had been scared, because I had to give up my room, to go to the attic room mom and dad fixed up for me. Well, I was ten, and still afraid of the boogie-man. I was so happy to see that purple and pink blanket. It had stars outlined everywhere on it. It is still as soft as it was when I got it, those ten years ago.
Soon, we were outside our cousin’s door. I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach..this wasn’t going to be good.
