Chapter One: Switch Blue City

Ash, Misty, and Brock, ran through the streets of a city that was just off the coast of Fuchsia City that went by the name of Switch Blue City. What were they doing there exactly? They were there to see if the rumor about a new gym opening was true. Ash had heard from Professor Oak about Switch Blue City, and was immediately intrigued by it.

Something about Switch Blue City was rather pleasant. Perhaps it was because of the flowers, and the rivers that flowed naturally through the city. Or maybe it was because everyone there was friendly in a unique way.

“I hope they're right about this new gym. I hope it’s real. It’s been a while since I’ve had a challenge,” Ash said proudly.

“But you just beat the Elite Four in Sinnoh! Wasn’t that challenge enough!?” Misty whined.

“Ash is a competitor, Misty,” Brock said, “And we’ve got to except that.”

“Yeah. What Brock just said!” Ash smiled at Misty.

“Ash watch out!” Misty yelled.

Ash collided into a man, who fell backwards from the impact. He was a tall thin man, with black hair that went down to where his neck started. Part of his hair covered his left brown eyes. He wore glasses that had swirls on them- he could see people through them, but no one could see his eyes, when looking at him. He wore black cargo pants, a black shirt that read “Wooper Is Number One”, and a pair of brown sandals.

“Oh…” The man rubbed his hair, “I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to anything around me. I was lost in this deep thought you see.”

“Uh… Okay…” Ash stared at the man.

“Ash apologize,” Misty glared.

“Oh. Fine. Sorry mister. I was in such a hurry to see if the rumors about the new gym were true,” Ash said apologetically.

“Is that so…?” He smirked. “Ash? I like that name. My wife named her child Ash, too.”

“What’s with the glasses?” Brock asked.

“I can’t see very well. The swirls are just for decoration so people can’t see my eyes,” The man replied smiling brightly.

“Do you know which way the gym is, mister?” Ash asked.

“Of course I do,” He replied.

“Woopah!” The man’s Wooper popped up from behind him.

“Oh there you are Wooper! I was looking for you!” The man shouted, “Please don’t run off like that again…” He patted Wooper on it’s head, then looked over at the teens. “This is my faithful Wooper. I’ve had him ever since I started my Pokemon journey.”

“There you are Mr. Ketchum!” A voice yelled.

The man and Ash turned around to see an old man that was wearing a yukata, and traditional Japanese sandals. He was completely bald, and was missing a few teeth.

“Yes?” The two answered. They looked at each other skeptically.

“Mr. Ketchum! Why do you keep running off from your gym, sir!” The old man bickered.

The three teens looked at the man.

“You’re the leader of the new gym!?” Ash and Misty shouted in shock.

“Ahh…” The man scratched his head in defeat, “Yes. I am Ian Ketchum, the leader of Switch Blue City.”

“You have the same last name as me,” Ash said.

“I do, don’t I?” Ian smiled. Could he be…?

“Get back to the gym this instance!” The old man shouted.

“Yes. Yes. Well. You guys feel free to follow us there if you’d like,” Ian said.

Something about Ian’s smiles, made Misty feel uneasy. It was as if she had seen him somewhere. She just didn’t know where she had seen him though. He smiled the whole time he had talked to them. Sure others had done that, but him… Him doing it was weird. And he had his eyes covered with swirly glasses so he could see everyone else, but they could only see everything but his eyes.

“Say Ash... By any chance is your mother’s name Delia?” Ian asked suddenly.

“Actually it is,” Ash replied, “How’d you know that?”

“I… I was your father’s brother,” Ian smiled faintly. It’s him. It’s him.

“You knew my father! What was he like?” Ash asked, pulling his shirt.

“He…wasn’t a great man. No. He was a bad man. He left his family behind. Your father was a very bad man. He left without saying goodbye to anyone but his child… He wanted to apologize to your mother for leaving suddenly, but he had a feeling she would never forgive him. So he never went back to her,” Ian said staring up at the sky. Once he realized they were staring up at him, he started to walk quickly to the gym. “Let’s hurry!”

“Ash. Something is up with that man,” Brock whispered, “Wasn’t your father an only sibling?”

“Yeah… I think so…” Ash smirked.

“He looked like he were about to cry…” Misty looked away. “Ash, I think Ian is your-”

“I haven’t lost since the first day I became leader of the gym. Impressive, eh? Of course it is!” Ian laughed. Wait. Please not just yet. I don’t want him to know… just yet. “Say! You girl!” He pointed at Misty. “Aren’t you the gym leader of Cerulean City, along with your sisters?”

“Yeah,” Misty nodded.

“I stopped by there last week to say hello to your father. He was a jerk when I used to know him. So was your mother. Your mom and I were best friends when we were younger,” Ian laughed, “Your father and I were rivals the minute we laid eyes on each other.”

“Wow! You knew my father!?” Misty smiled.

“Yup. He wasn’t the brightest fish in the sea, but he had a lot of talent… even if he were stupid.” Ian smirked.

Maybe he’s trying to get me not to tell. Maybe he wants to tell Ash himself…

“And you." He pointed at Brock, "You’re dad was an apprentice at Pewter City gym when I met him. The gym leader was an idiot, and he knocked out my precious Wooper…” He sighed, “But then my Pikachu had a come back.”

“You had a Pikachu?” Ash asked, staring at his Pikachu that was sitting comfortably on his shoulder.

“Still do,” He smiled holding up one of his Pokeballs. “I can’t tell you the rest of my Pokemon, because then you have a sneak peek!”

"Mr. Ketchum! Do you have any idea how many people are waiting to battle you?" The old man snapped, "Hurry! Hurry!"

"Okay. Okay..." Ian sighed.

In The Next Chapter Of Rolling Star, Ash faces off against Ian. Who’ll be the victor, and can Ian keep Misty from telling Ash that he’s his father?
