Dark Side of a Rose

By: Ivory Rose Illusionist

Chapter 1: What’s death anyway?

A pair of crimson stripped strong legs pole-vaulted from building to building over the bustling city of Station Square. Dark crimson eyes scanned the area for a certain pink hedgehog known as Amy Rose. When the Ultimate Life Form couldn’t find his lover then he headed towards the city’s cemetery to see is she was at their son’s grave. But when he made it there, some psycho maniac had dug up the tombstone! Shadow’s eyes shook of anger and shock. Who would be so horrible into defiling a young boy’s grave? Then he came to another frightening question: And is my Rose all right? The ebony hedgehog didn’t hesitate to race towards the rose’s apartment.

---

Shadow made it to Amy’s front door in seconds, but her door closed. “Amy?” No answer. “AMY!” In desperate need to find out about the pink hedgehog’s well being, the scare-crazed hedgehog knocked the door down with his Chaos Spear. Ruby orbs shook in shock when he discovered a familiar, but changed figure standing before his Rose. Standing in half the light and darkness was a black hedgehog who looked exactly like Shadow with red stripped bangs draped over his right eye. His wardrobe consisted of a red vest with white stripes on the outlines, small round lensed glasses, baggy mahogany jeans, and blue air shoes. He smiled at Shadow.

“Father…” Is what he said to him.

Tears of joy started falling from Amy’s emerald eyes while she gazed upon the hedgehog in front of her. She recognized those crimson eyes anywhere. “My baby…” The rose spoke silently slowly approaching Dark slipping her arms around his waist. “my little Dark. My sweet baby boy.” She muttered over and over rocking him back and forth.

Dark smiled reassuringly wrapping comforting arms around his mother’s back. His head rested on top of hers. “Yes, it’s me…”

As Shadow watched his Rose and son hold onto each other cherishing each other’s embrace, a small smile rose on his face. It relieved him to know that his boy was indeed alive, but disappeared when this question formed in his mind: How is that boy alive?

Amy finally released her son. “How…?” Before she could voice her question that her and her dark prince were thinking Dark placed a gentle finger on her lips.

“The future had been changed. When my past-self had passed, it caused father to say and confess something to you that completely changed what happens from now to where I come from.” Explained the young man removing his finger from off his mother’s lips.

The rose hedgehog did indeed remember what happened.

Flashback:

Shadow took in a deep breath before he spoke. He stalked further into Amy’s house making her close the door. “I can’t stand it anymore. Hell, I couldn’t when I first saw the tears in your eyes.” Ruby eyes stared deeply into blood shot emerald ones. A gloved hand reached up touching the side of Amy’s face. His eyes were a mixture of fear, guilt, sadness, and intensity. “You have no right to shed tears because I technically murdered that boy. I can’t change what I did though I wish I could. But Rose, I’m sorry…” The black hedgehog confessed. “and I…I…love you…”

Flashback ends.

“So you’re pretty much saying that you were never really dead?” Shadow had to get straight.

“Well…technically I was but since the future had been changed that caused me to live. If someone were to dig up my grave right now, there wouldn’t be a body. But don’t tell the person who bought the coffin that. They’ll be demanding their money back.” Explained Dark.

“It doesn’t matter who paid for what!” Amy butted it. “What matters is that you’re alive and well!” She turned to Shadow and her knocked down door. “How about we fix up my door before we catch up?”

Dark nodded nudging past Shadow picking up the door with one hand. “I can fix it, but I’ll need some tools. Do you have a tool box?”

“I’m afraid not. Let me call Tails, and have him one over.” Replied Amy walking into the kitchen to dial Tails’ number.

Shadow analyzed his ‘son’. He was strong like him, but what about the moves he used? “Tell me boy, what were those abilities you used when you showed up?”

Dark let out a chuckle. “Oh, you mean Chaos Barrier and Chaos Bomb.”

“Chaos Barrier and Bomb?”

“Yes, those are a few of the moves I inherited from you that you never learned. “Oh, and watch this!” The young man sat the door down before a lime light outlined his body. “Chaos Control!” Somehow, he warped through time without a Chaos Emerald.

Shadow’s crimson eyes widened in shock. “How is that possible?”

Dark smiled. “For some odd reason I can willingly use Chaos Control.” He simply explained. “But I think it’s much easier, because all you’ve got to worry about is your energy and health. But using a Chaos Emerald means you’d have to keep up with it, and pray that you don’t lose it when you really need it.”

That does sound easier. “Good point, but how are you stronger that I?”

“It’s called love.”

“I’m back! Tails should be on his way when he gets the Tornado III started. In the mean time, why don’t we settle for a cup of tea or something?” Amy had shown back up asking.

Her son smiled at her walking towards the kitchen. “That would be nice.” He said gently.
