Major Evan Lorne:
He always worried when she was off world.
When she went with Sheppard's team it was worst. Not that he would doubt his CO's ability to watch out for his team. It was just... Well, Sheppard's team had a reputation for attracting trouble.
It magically seemed to find them whenever they were in the field – no matter if they were on a reconnaissance mission or just trying to trade for food. It usually ended with at least one member of the team in the infirmary. And he always worried that next time, it would be her.
Whenever both leaders were off world Evan was in charge of the city. That gave him an excuse to linger in the control room until she was safely back on Atlantis. Only then could he stop worrying.
He was still uneasy about her going off world, but it wasn't as bad when it was his team who accompanied her. Then at least he did not have to wonder every couple of minutes what she was doing at that moment; if she was safe or already in trouble.
It didn't matter if they were checking out some Ancient ruins or if it was a trade negotiation. His eyes never left her, just as he never left her side. He tried his best to protect her every second she was not on Atlantis. And luckily so far his best had been enough.
But he was afraid of the day where it might not be...
Dr. Elizabeth Weir:
She pretended that she did not notice, but she did. The way tension seemed to leave his body when he saw her stepping through the gate in one piece. How his eyes never left her when they were off world together.
She was sure that if she counted, she would see that he volunteered his team to accompany her more often then Colonel Sheppard did – which was mainly because Major Lorne didn't really give Sheppard a fair chance.
He was always first in volunteering if it came to any mission that involved her being off world.
Had Sheppard noticed? She was sure he had. The way he grinned at her last time Lorne eagerly volunteered made her sure of it.
But why should she care? It was not as if it was against any regulations. Major Lorne could accompany her as often as he wanted to. But that was all she ever could give him. Letting him accompany her, keep her safe.
She could not – would not – date anybody under her command. She was determined to set a good example. She did not want to give the IOA the chance to fire her and leave the expedition in the hands of the military.
She feared the day where simply accompanying her wouldn't be enough for him...
