Summary:

Everything seems to being going perfect for Karin and Kenta, as well as everyone else. It's summer, school's out and everything's just dandy. That is until the new kid. His name is Syra Amatu LeCroix and is apparently the young lord of a very large estate that belongs to his family. But, the twist of it all is that he's a vampire. What's with this kid? And just when he shows up, summer's coming to an end. Of course...

Chapter One: Taking In Summer Like a Drug

A bird nearby sang happily, chirping loudly as it flew through the warm and sweet air that surrounded Karin. She smiled excitedly as the bag she carried in her hands swung back and forth with every step she took.

"Wow! Today's really a nice day. But...It's that time of the month again...Nose bleeds galore."

Karin let out a sigh, drooping her head in a depressing manner. Snapping out of her little state of depression, she looked up at the sound of a familiar voice.

"Hey. What are you doing here?"

Kenta's eyes were settled on Karin in a curious way. He wondered why she looked so depressed on a day like this. But, he'd get to that question later. From the looks of it, she had just come from work and was taking home some food. Kenta was on his way to work now, so he hadn't expected to see Karin along the way.

"Huh? Oh! I was just um...Heading home to drop off some food. Then I was gonna go play some softball with Maki...What about you-ohhh, nevermind."

Karin took note of the work uniform Kenta was wearing. Ever since the time he had walked in on her in the men's changing room, Kenta had started to just change before work. Karin could understand his actions...Though, she never entered the men's changing room ever again. Not even on accident.

"Softball? Huh...Well, see ya'."

Kenta gave a small wave of his hand as he walked past Karin in a non-chalant way. Karin followed after him with her eyes until he was completely out of sight. Without even noticing, Karin had blushed slightly at the casual encounter with Kenta. Putting a hand to her face as she turned her stare back ahead of her, Karin grinned.

"Aheh...Well, I better get this home and get changed before Maki has to wait too long."

Walking along the sidewalk happily, Karin started to hum, breaking the silence around her. The bird from before had stopped singing and everything seemed kinda eerie actually at this exact moment. Karin stopped humming and walking all together and glanced around nervously.

"What's this weird feeling? ...Huh..."

She put her hand up to her mouth and took a few slow steps before running the rest of the way to her house. When she arrived, she bent over, panting heavily. Everyone else must've been using this horribly bright day to sleep or something, seeing as the entire house appeared to be empty. Anju was more than likely in her room, playing with that creepy doll of hers, Boogie. Karin shuddered at the name and walked into her home, setting the food in the fridge once she reached the kitchen.

"I guess they couldn't care less about where I am right now. Too sunny for their tastes..."

Karin rubbed her head and let out a sigh. At the sudden feel of two cold hands on her shoulder, Karin jumped and let out a little shriek.

"Relax. Geez, Karin."

Ren's voice rang in her ears as she whipped around to face him, giving a frown. She was about to retaliate when she was cut off by her older brother.

"Of course it's too sunny. We're vampires after all. Anyways, we have guests coming over later, you need to be here. Mom's and Dad's orders."

Ren gave that sly grin as he flicked her on the forehead before turning and walking away only to disappear into his room. Karin was left to think over what he just said by herself.

"Guests? Us? Since when do we have guests? And what about mine and Maki's game?!"

Karin grabbed her head and made a fake sobbing noise. She couldn't disobey her parents...What a bad day to have guests when they rarely had guests at all! In a pouting manner, Karin walked over to the phone and picked it up, dailing Maki's number sluggishly. With each ring, Karin grew impatient, waiting for Maki to answer.

"Tokitou residence, this is Maki speaking."

"Ah, Maki, it's Karin, I-"

"Karin! Ah, are you ready to go? I'm totally not even dressed yet! I'm sorry for making you wait!"

"Um, actually, I'm not dressed either, so it's okay. But, I called to tell you that I can't go today..."

"Whaaaat? Why not? Today's perfect! And summer'll be over in like four days!"

"...I know. But, my parents have some guests coming over today and they said I have to be here. I'm really sorry."

"Well, it's not your fault. Say, lets hang out at the bookstore tomorrow! My parents need me to watch it while they run some errands, you could help me out. What do ya' say?"

Karin smiled on the other side of the phone, giving a confirming nod.

"Yeah, of course! I'll see you tomorrow then, Maki-chan."

"Alrighty!"

After hearing Maki hang up the phone, Karin set her own phone back down and turned to go to her room. She pondered on whom the guests could be. Should she change into something fancy? She was about to get her answer.

"Karin! What are you doing?! Get changed now! Now!"

Carrera, Karin's mom, came bursting into the room, blood in hand in a nice wine glass. Her eyes were widened with frustration and to Karin's surprise, her mother was wearing a very fancy, very formal dress. Her father, sheepishly standing behind his wife was also wearing formal wear, a nice tux that suited him quite well. Raising her hands up to her defense, Karin called out to her mother before she could recieve a thorough verbal lashing.

"Ren just now told me we have guests coming over! I didn't know, honest!"

"Then go get changed now! Stop staring at me, you're wasting time!"

"O-okay, mom!"

Karin took off into her room, retreating from her loud mother's temper. To be frank, Karin didn't really care for the fancy dresses that suited a vampire's style to a 'T'. She went to her closet and pushed through the assortment of clothes carefully until she found a black formal dress, vampiric looking frills and all. It had a lace-up back and frilly sleeves, though it wasn't one of those frilly dresses that caused the world to gag. Still, Karin hated to wear them when she did, but she got dressed quickly, knowing that if she weren't out there to meet the guests upon their arrival, her mother would have a fit afterwards. A soft knock came from Karin's door, a voice coming from behind it.

"Karin, the guests have arrived."

'Yeah, ya' idiot! get out here and try not to disgrace the family!'

Boogie's voice following Anju's caused Karin to freeze. She so badly wanted Anju to just get rid of that thing.

"Okay, Anju. I'll be right out. And I won't disgrace my family."

Karin hissed at Boogie angrily. She heard no response, so she assumed Anju had already left her. She quickly finished changing and came out of her room frantically, though she disguised her panic pretty well. As she entered the family room where the guests would have been seated by now, Karin lifted her eyes to see whom the people might be. That's when she saw him. Syra Amatu LeCroix. The young lord of the Amatu LeCroix family estate. That's when a thought came to Karin's mind about the young lord.

'He looks like trouble.'
