Chapter Seven – Magical

“GET OUT OF HERE!” Inuyasha yelled, running forward whilst pulling his Tetsusaiga from its sheath. Kagome took out her bow and notched an arrow, aiming it carefully at the demon that they had been hunting for so long. Inuyasha scowled and turned back at Kagome. “I said get out of here!” He snapped at her as she loosed the arrow. “This one’s mine.” His voice was so vicious, so unlike him, and Kagome nodded, stepping back to where Sango, Miroku and Shippo sat on Kirara.

She looked over at him, leaning on Kirara’s warm fur, frowning. He needed to kill that demon. It was some sort of honour thing, some sort of unsaid agreement. Kagome had almost been drowned by the brother of this demon, and Inuyasha was set to make sure it would not happen. He had promised to protect Kagome, but he had almost failed. She could’ve died.

Again Kagome coughed, rubbing her throat. Even thinking about it brought back the feeling of water stuck in her windpipe, and filling her lungs. She had thought she was going to die. But as always she was rescued by Inuyasha. Was she completely useless? Why was she always in danger? She hated the fact that Inuyasha always had to worry about her, she hated the fact that she was slowing them down, but they needed her, they needed her to find the jewel shards, because otherwise, there’d be no point in her being in the feudal era anymore. Well no point she could understand.

Inuyasha. The half demon.

He was stubborn, idiotic, rash, violent… but he had a side that hardly anyone else had seen. He had a beautiful, calm and loving side. His eyes were beautiful, she loved his cute fuzzy ears… but his soul was just simply tortured beyond all measure. That was why he seemed rash and argumentative. It was because of what happened before; he was like a trapped animal that needed release. The way he was shunned for being a Half-demon, by both humans and demons, like he was a half-wit or only half alive, it was just not fair.

Within a few moments the demon was dead and the demonsword went back into its sheath, Inuyasha sighing. Sango and Miroku exchanged a glance and Miroku slipped off Kirara’s back and walked over to where Kagome stood, taking her arm and dragging her away from the others.

“Miroku! What? What’s going on?”

“Nothing.” He lied, and Kagome looked over her shoulder to where Sango was warily approaching Inuyasha who was looking on them all with some kind of confusion.

“What’s going on?” Inuyasha demanded. He looked over at Miroku and Kagome. “Where’s he taking her?”

“There’s something we need to discuss.” Sango said. She sounded very tired and at once Inuyasha’s brow furrowed.

“What is it?”

“What happened yesterday… with Kagome…”

“I’ve already spoken to Miroku about it.” Inuyasha interrupted her, with an annoyed frown on his face. Obviously he was sick of getting lectured.

“You have?”

“Yeah! So quit it already.”

“So you know?”

He stopped and glanced at her. “Know what?” Sango stopped and hung her head, realising the mistake she had made. Inuyasha grabbed her shoulders and glared into her worried face. “Sango… Why do you look so worried? What the hell is going on?”

“I’m sorry Inuyasha.” Sango sighed. “But… there… when you and Kagome were… there was some kind of odd demonic aura around you. Around both of you. I don’t know why but me and Miroku feel that we shouldn’t experiment until we know what the hell is wrong. We can’t risk it at the moment.”

Inuyasha stared. “You’re prying… in Kagome’s life… in my life…”

“Because we care!”

He sighed and scratched the side of his face, still frowning slightly. “Does Kagome know?”

“Miroku has just gone to tell her… We’ve decided that you two cannot get as close as you did before. It’s too dangerous. I know you love her, that much is obvious, but you cannot do anything… to cause that aura, that shimmer to come back. It’s too dangerous. I’m sorry.”

Inuyasha turned back to where Miroku and Kagome had disappeared from and then back at Sango. “Where have they gone?” He demanded.

Sango went to say something, but an almighty crash in the undergrowth stilled her tongue. She was immediately off, but somehow trailing behind Inuyasha who had leapt into action even before the ground had stopped vibrating. Not again! He thought.

Without any hesitation, he jumped in the direction of the noise, coming up to an obvious cave-in of an old abandoned mine. He could smell Miroku, and he could smell Kagome, up to the former entrance to the cave. He pounded his fist on the rock, testing its strength. “Kagome!” He yelled through the rock. “Kagome are you okay in there?!”

Sango stepped up behind him and put a restraining hand on his arm. “Hold,” She whispered. “You don’t want to cause another cave-in while they’re still inside do you?” she moved closer to the rocks and pressed her ear against them. She could hear muffled movement and then someone distinctly saying “ow!” after a sharp slap-like sound.

“They seem to be okay.” Sango nodded, satisfied. “Now we have to see if this place has a second entrance. Are you… Inuyasha?” Sango turned around and graced the surrounding area with confusion. Inuyasha had gone. She sighed. “Oh great…” This was not going to help matters…
