Tales of the Abyss
Anise, Florian (brief mentioning of Ion, implied one-sided Ion/Anise)
Spoilers…

“Anise! Anise!”

Anise sighed. That insistent voice was always good at making her stay. She turned around and peered down the hall.

“What is it Florian?”

“Are you leaving now Anise? You just got here.”

“I know. I know. I’m sorry Florian but it’ll be awhile before I can stop by and visit you longer. Besides…” She looked away slightly. ‘I don’t think I’m ready yet… Ion…’ Anise remained in her daze longer than she realized, and was shaken out of it by Florian. She looked and saw him with a small smile, gently holding her left hand. She hesitantly put her other hand over his, saying slowly “I promise I’ll come over tomorrow. And I’ll make a fresh batch of stew.” She felt a bit better after watching Florian’s eyes light up.

“Really? Thank you Anise!” he called out, taking his free hand and covering the top of her right hand. Anise looked down at the pile of hands, noticing the way his sleeves laid and bunched. There were a lot of wrinkles, despite him only getting the clothes that morning. She removed her right hand from under his, and stroked the lines out of the sleeves. She felt Florian’s grasp on her hand loosen, as he asked what was wrong.

Anise muttered quietly that his sleeves were smooth.

“Huh? Who? Whose sleeves are--”

Anise suddenly pulled her hands away, and looked down at the floor. A shaky sigh escaped her lips. “I’m sorry. I was just acting funny. Well, I have to go now! See you tomorrow!” Anise turned and took of running, Tokunaga bouncing on her back as she did. Florian watched her leave, suddenly feeling very cold. He turned slowly, and walked back to his room.

As Anise reached the exit, she couldn’t stop the thought that kept forming in her mind, and threatened to escape her lips.
