Oh! The Drama!
Chap. 1
Ugh… Another School Year Begins!
It was yet another school year. The summer seemed to go by awfully fast… and that sucked. Riku, who just began his junior year at Ocean View High, was contemplating whether or not to ditch out on his first day. First days were always a bitch with the new annoying freshman arriving. Yeah, Riku may have been a freshman, but he sure as hell didn’t act as immature as they do. Laying there in his bed, Riku let out a tired sigh, “What to do…?” He turned over and grabbed his iPod nano. Switching it off of hold he waited for the time to appear on the menu. “Only 6:00?” Riku said as he let out an annoyed groan. He then sat up and stretched, listening to his bones crack. Riku rubbed his sore eyes and walked into his bathroom. After staring at himself in the mirror for a few seconds, he ran his fingers through his silver locks and grabbed a fresh towel.
About a half an hour later, Riku exited his shower and inhaled the sweet scent of his minty shampoo and conditioner. The aroma made him feel wide awake and refreshed. Entering his room with just but a small towel clinging to his waist, Riku searched for clothes to wear. He dug through his drawers and grabbed a pair of plain socks and his red polka-doted boxers. He slipped both on and walked to his closet where he retrieved his favorite black Dickies and pinstripe collared button-up. Riku grabbed his iPod once again to check the time, “6:45… I have 35 minutes to leave…” He sat is small companion down and entered the bathroom once again to brush his teeth and hair. Riku then quickly put on some Axe, grabbed his iPod and headphones, and slipped on his black Converse as he walked down the hall to the living room. There he lazily packed his school things into his mail-bag-like backpack. Riku then sat on the couch, leaning his head back on the cushion. He slowly began to get drowsy and soon fell back asleep.
After about almost an hour later Riku awoke with a startle, “Shit! I’m late!” He quickly grabbed his school bag and burst out the door. Riku ran down the sidewalk (and pretty fast I might add with him being a previous track star and all), but soon tired after about a block and a half. “Damn, I haven’t run like that in a while…” Riku said aloud as he slowed his pace catching his breath. After 5 more minutes of walking, he finally made it to campus. Riku walked casually into the main office and just his luck, the principal. “Riku! Good to see you lad!” The principal said cheerily shaking Riku’s hand strongly. Riku winced with annoyance, “Good to see you to Principal Highwind.” Principal Highwind let go of Riku’s hand and gave him a stern look, “Now Riku, I’ve known you for a couple years and it’s not like you to be late. What happened?” Riku rolled his eyes, but Principal Highwind didn’t seem to notice. “Well, I just accidentally slept in I guess.” Riku said with a slight hint of sarcasm. “Accidentally? Well no matter, head to class.” Principal Highwind said with a bit of authority in his voice.
Riku left the office quickly to escape the torture of being near that man and began walking down the hall. Wait. He didn’t have a schedule… Riku turned around and to his surprise there was Principal Highwind close on him with a piece of paper in his hand. “Riku! Boy you forgot your schedule.” Principal Highwind said as he handed Riku his schedule. “Yeah whatever.” Riku said under his breath. “What was that?” Principal Highwind asked with a tone of anger. “Oh nothing sir! I gotta get to class!” Riku responded as he ran down the hall. Finally out of sight from the old man, Riku stopped and looked at his schedule. It didn’t seem to promising.
After inspecting his schedule, Riku gave a huff and headed to his Chemistry class. When he arrived to the door, he was a bit hesitant to open it, but turned the knob sharply and walked in anyways. Ms. Valentine noticed Riku’s entrance and stopped her teachings abruptly, “Late to class on the first day? What’s your name?” Riku scratched his head somewhat embarrassed, “Um… Sorry? And it’s Riku.” Ms. Valentine checked his name off on her attendance sheet, “Okay Riku, you sit… right behind… Ms. Ashelia.” Riku looked around the class to see a sandy blonde pointing at his seat. Riku walked over hastily and sat down. The Ashelia girl turned around, “Hey! Um… Riku right? As you know I’m Ashelia, but just call me Ashe.” “Okay Ashe…” Riku said sarcastically. Ashe just smiled and turned back around and began tapping her pencil. Riku sat through the remainder of class spacing out and doodling in his notebook. Occasionally he would look up and watch Ms. Valentine scribble something down on the board. Riku noticed that she was young, at least 22, and also that she was pretty cute. But there was something interesting about her… she had these… crimson-red eyes.
Finally Riku was snapped out of his daze by the sound of the bell. Everyone in class began shuffling around packing their things up and leaving to 2nd block. Riku was the last to leave dragging his feet slowly down the hall to English. Riku walked in through the door and was glomped suddenly. “Oh my gosh! Riku!” A shrill voice shrieked. Riku regained his poseur and looked to see who is attacker was. The face he saw was a friendly one. “Oh, hey Yuffie.” Riku said with a smile of relief. Yuffie gave Riku a tight hug, “I haven’t seen you since, like, after summer break last year!” Riku gave Yuffie a slight hug back, “Yeah, I know. How was your trip to Japan with your parents?” Yuffie gave Riku a large grin and walked him over to some desks. Yuffie sat down and told Riku all about her summer vacation in Japan and how she was attacked by so-called “ninja thugs”. Riku laughed and nodded in agreement to whatever it was she was saying. ‘God this girl can talk’ Riku thought to himself.
“Ahem! Class!” A subtle, but stern voice said. Everyone looked up to see our teacher, Mrs. Strife. Mrs. Strife, now with the class’ attention, cleared her throat, “Okay students, please take a seat anywhere. I’ll give you a minute to choose so hurry up! That will be your permanent seat for the semester!” All the juniors hurried around the room choosing where to sit, and I of course, was dragged along to sit by Yuffie and her friends. “Okay Riku, these are my friends!” Yuffie exclaimed happily. Yuffie introduced Riku to busty girl named Tifa, a rowdy red-head named Reno, and a interestingly good-looking guy named Kadaj. After shaking hands with his new acquaintances, the teacher demanded attention once again and marked down where everyone was sitting.
Then after the grueling hour and a half of class ended everyone again packed their things and headed out. “Hey Riku! I’ll see you at lunch okie!” Yuffie said before she hurried off down the hall. Riku headed the opposite way of Yuffie and went to his homeroom. He really didn’t understand the point in having homeroom for only 10 minutes, but schools will be schools. As he sat down at a random desk, Riku noticed that the homeroom wasn’t just all his grade level like it had been his last two years. It was a mix of all the grade levels. As Riku sat and studied who was in the room, he noticed Reno. “Hey, Reno!” Riku called out. Reno looked up and smiled. Reno made his way over to Riku and sat next to him, “Hey Riku. HaHa, cool we have homeroom together.” “BOYS!” A loud thundering voice hammered through the air. Everyone went dead silent.
It was our teacher, Mr. Domino. “Thank you gentlemen. Ok, I’m sure that some of my previous young men have noticed a change in homeroom. Well, we are going to have multiple grade homerooms from now on instead of single grade ones.” The class let out a disappointed “aww”, but quieted down again. “I see I have most of my previous students in here,” continued Mr. Domino, “I’ll just call the names of our newer members. Ok Reno?” Reno raised his hand, “Here!” Mr. Domino looked at his sheet again, “Larsa?” A smaller boy with dark brunette hair raised his hand, “I’m here.” I nudged Reno, “HaHa, freshman.” Reno just laughed. Mr. Domino called out more names, “Balthier and Rasler?” Two older guys, most likely seniors, raised their hands, “Here.” The Balthier guy was handsome having short spiked bangs and deep brown eyes. The Rasler guy was just as handsome with white-blonde hair and startling blue eyes. “Okay, Vincent?” Mr. Domino continued once again. “Yeah, I’m here.” Said a dark, alluring voice. Riku looked over and saw a gorgeous man with long, black hair, and… crimson-red eyes? He then remembered Ms. Valentine, but his thoughts were cut off by Reno. “Hey, Riku, that Vincent guy, he’s Ms. Valentine’s younger brother.” Riku’s eyes widened, “You serious?” Reno laughed, “Yeah I’m serious.” “Ahem, excuse me sirs, do you mind?” Mr. Domino retorted towards Reno and I. I shut up and so did Reno. Mr. Domino let out a small cough, “Ok, last but not least, Sora?” I then saw this fragile looking kid; he looked like a second year. He had this spiky cinnamon-brown hair and flawless face. He seemed so… perfect. “Here.” Sora quietly responded. His voice was soft, but it had a pleasing sound, and Riku enjoyed that.
Riku began spacing out staring at the boy’s sapphire-blue eyes. The boy then looked over noticing he was being watched. Riku snapped out of whatever he was in and gave him a cold stare. Sora seeing him with that look turned away quickly. Then thank God. The bell rang for lunch. All the guys ran out in a disheveled order trampling those who didn’t move fast enough. Riku and Reno were just some of the ones who did the trampling. Not quite hungry yet, Riku went and saved a table for Reno and the rest of the gang. Sitting there not really thinking about something, but someone. That… boy… Sora. There was something about him Riku liked. Was it the fact he looked so innocent? Riku didn’t know for sure, but he wanted to find out. All in all Riku was a bit confused after figuring out he was attracted to men only just months ago. “RIKU!” A familiar shrill voice screamed. Riku jumped being very startled, “What the hell! Yuffie!” Yuffie gave him a that smile as if saying “Gotcha!” “I hate it when you do that Yuffie…” Riku said trying to sound angry, but apparently failing due to her small giggle.
The rest of Yuffie’s friends soon joined up at the table and began chatting about how their first day had been going and how they think their year will turn out. Then Riku felt a firm hand on his shoulder. He turned around to see a chestnut-brown beauty behind him. “Hey there! I’m Valerie. I noticed you from across the cafeteria and thought you were pretty hot.” The so-called Valerie girl chortled. He then saw the girl from 1st block, Ashe. “Oh, hey Riku!” Ashe said waving. “Hi Ashe.” Riku said still eyeing the Valerie girl. “Oh, I see you met my best friend Ashe already… Well less introductions to do!” Valerie said with a bright smile. “Um… Is there something you want…Valerie?” Riku asked somewhat coldly. “Oh, not really, just your phone number.” Riku’s confused gaze then turned into a heartless stare, “Oh… well in that case… No.” Valerie seemed heart-broken. Ashe seemed upset as well. “Oh well fine! Be a bastard!” Valerie yelled as she stomped off with Ashe high on her heels. Yuffie just busted out hysterically, “Oh my God Riku! Do you know who that was!?” Riku just shook his head not really caring. “That was Valerie Winston! She the most popular and gorgeous girl here at OVH! Any guy would die to go out with her!” Yuffie exclaimed still giggling uncontrollably “And you just straight up told her no.” She continued. “Well I really have no interest in… um… her.” Riku said not trying to let anything slip.
After Yuffie calmed down and their lunch went back to normal, they just talked about random things. Very random things. Somehow Reno brought cookies and orange juice into their conversation. And what was really odd was that they actually talked about cookies and orange juice… well except for Kadaj. He found it quite not worth talking about so he just sat and listening amusingly. Riku soon tired of there odd subjects and excused himself to go explore the campus. Riku walked around and found a nice bench under a tree to sit at. He watched as everyone conversed and walked by. Riku then spotted some people from his homeroom. It was Balthier and Rasler. They seemed to be consoling Valerie. There was Ashe with them as well as another tall, dark-skinned girl with a long flowing pony-tail of silver. Riku watched for a few minutes and learned that Ashe and Rasler were dating. A few more minutes he learned that Balthier and the dark-skinned girl were dating as well. Then Riku saw someone come out of the cafeteria… It was… Sora. He was hanging out with that Larsa boy, a blonde spiky-hair haired kid, a blonde girl in a white dress, a red-haired girl in a pink halter-like jumpsuit thing, and another blonde girl with short braided pig tails.
Riku thought for a second, But his thoughts soon escaped him, hearing the lunch bell ring signaling time for class yet again. Riku sighed and quickly walked to his next class. Art was by far his favorite class due to the fact he was actually really good at it. Not many people new that though. It was kind of his secret hobby. Riku walked in, pushing his
bangs from his face and stopped noticing Sora. ‘Why does a sophomore have Advanced Art III?’ He pondered. Riku paid no more attention to his curious self and sat down at the canvas next to the boy. Sora looked over and seemed to be blushing, “Um… hi.” Riku smirked at this and laughed, “Hey.” But that was all he said. Nothing more. Nothing less. Class soon began and everyone carried on with simple drawing assignments. Yuffie’s friend Tifa had art class with Riku, so she sat on the other side of him. Riku and her talked for a bit, and Riku noticed she was extremely good at drawing people. Especially their faces. Tifa’s drawings seemed so realistic. “I’m impressed, Tifa.” Riku said with a warm tone. Tifa gave him a cheerful smile in return and continued working. Riku occasionally glanced at Sora’s work as well. He was pretty good. That there answered Riku’s question as to why Sora had Advanced Art III. Sora seemed greatly skilled in drawing anime… just like himself. Riku really hadn’t drawn anything but the start of a torso. Without paying much attention to his boy neighbor, Sora asked, “So… you like it?” Riku blinked, “Wha…?” Sora frowned, “Well, I noticed you watching…” Riku, being his hard-ass self, retorted somewhat meanly, “Hn, it’s okay I guess.” Sora didn’t say anything else and continued working in silence. Riku noticing this returned his attention back to Tifa watching her skillful hands.
Time seemed to fly by when the bell rang surprisingly. Riku had been so intertwined with Tifa’s art that he lost track of time. “I’m glad you enjoy my work Riku. It helps me concentrate better when someone’s encouraging eyes are watching.” Tifa said brushing her hand slightly on Riku’s cheek. Riku gave Tifa a slight smile and said goodbye as he headed to his history class, quickly turning to see Sora slump down the hall. ‘Did I hurt his feelings or something?’ Riku thought eyeing the boy till he disappeared into the crowd of students. Riku dispatched the thought and continued to class. History was by far the most boring class he’d ever had during his school years, and it still was the most boring. The teacher Mr. Heidegger was even more of a hard-ass than he was. It bothered him because they seemed to bump heads often already. And it was only the first day of school. “Mr. Maelstrom please read.” Mr. Heidegger asked Riku in an unpleasant tone. “No thanks old man.” Riku said was a slight glare. Mr. Heidegger was perturbed quite easily, but Riku set him overboard. “Mr. Maelstrom! Please step outside for the remainder of class!” Everyone seemed scared of the red-faced Mr. Heidegger and shut up pretty fast. Riku did as told and left class, but he seemed relieved to be out of the Tomato Head’s premises. For the rest of the day Riku explored in the school halls and when the bell rang he went home. It was quite an interesting first day. ‘HaHa, I’m glad I didn’t skip out today.’ Riku thought smirking as he walked up to his front door.
