shoot down the stars
"I still don't understand why he left.. he's told me more than once, but.. I still don't get it."
Apple green eyes, dulled by a feeling unknown, flickered down to the floor.
"Axel, if he felt the need to leave, then he was probably the only one who understood it."
A pale hand brushed away soft blonde bangs. Almost like his.
"Y'know.. it's so stupid. I could’ve gone after him. I should've! There was nothing stopping me, dammit! But.. I didn't. I didn't, Naminé. Why..? Why didn't I go after him..?"
"I.. I don't know Axel.. I'm sorry."
Silence. The redhead quirked his lips into a frown. Those green green eyes lost color through his pain. The same beautiful eyes she had grown to love. They showed emotion even though he didn't believe in such a thing. Anger, sadness, cheerfulness, passion. And now despair. Even then, she had loved them. Loved...
Him.
She couldn't bring herself to say it. For she was a Nobody. Love didn't exist. It was only but a dream, a fantasy, a wish on a star.
She swallowed, pearl white teeth biting down on petal pink lips. She wanted him to be happy. Because seeing him like this crushed her... heart?
"You could.. you could still go after him. L-leave... Leave the Organization and go after him."
His face was clouded with thought. He sighed, running a hand through his mane of crimson hair, hoping to relieve some tension.
"You don't have to kill him. Disobey orders, Axel. Find him. Run away."
"And do what?" he snapped, his gaze on her suddenly cold and steely. She flinched and looked away. "And do what, Naminé? Spend the rest of our lives hiding? Is that it!"
"...The Keyblade master will save us..."
"Haha! So you expect me wait around, my hopes resting on a kid? Bullshit."
Her sapphirine orbs lost a sparkle or two.
But it was true. What if the Keyblade master failed? Then who would save them..?
"...Besides... I'm... I'm sure he's better off without me..."
"Oh.. Axel.. that's not true.."
She leaned over, wrapping her arms around his thin shoulders and resting her head atop his.
"That's not true. It'll never be true. Honestly, Axel. You should.. you should leave.. find him. He's waiting for you, Axel.. I know it."
He buried his face into her neck, enjoying her scent, her presence, her gentle touch. The way she still cared about him. He wasn't forgotten.
"But what if he isn't, Naminé...?" he whispered brokenly.
She knew in that moment, that he knew what love was. Maybe he didn't realize it, but she knew it was there. He really did love Roxas. Not her, but Roxas. And she couldn't change that. She wouldn't. No matter how much she ached to, she would never do that to him. Because he deserved to be with the kid. They had been so close. So..
In love.
So she took in a deep breath and forced a smile. She brushed some scarlet strands of hair away from his face and dropped a kiss on top of his head. She wanted him to be happy more than anything in the world. If he was happy, so was she.
"Then I'll still be here for you."
Just because I haven't written anything in a while.
And I'm in love with this pairing.
