Title: Making Things Right

Author: Debra

Rating: Teen

Summary: When a new hospital Chief Of Staff is hired, she will have a close tie to Ray and make things right for the resident, who is struggling to put his life back together after his accident. Will be a Reela.

Author's Notes: I got to thinking why not write a story about a family member of Ray's who cleans house and puts certain med students and arrogant interns in their place. It is not going to be a cousin like my character Mollie in Realizing the truth but it will be a close family member.

Disclaimer: All of these characters, except for Julie belong to John Wells Productions and Warner Brothers Productions. I'm just using them for entertainment purposes.

Baton Rouge, LA

Two months after the events of The Honeymoon Is Over

Dr. Julie Barnett was in her younger half brother's bedroom, helping taking care of him and fighting to be polite to Katey, who was visiting Ray for a few days. Julie thought her former stepmother, Jacy, was being stupid and taking that little idiot at her word that she was Ray's girlfriend but then again she and Jacy had never gotten along from the moment her father had married her. The two women had gotten along strictly for the sake of Ray and their father, even after the divorce.

Julie had been ten when her father had married Jacy and eleven by the time her little brother had came along. She had fallen in love with him from the first moment she held him in her arms right after he had been born. After their father had divorced Jacy, it had been Julie who had taken care of Ray more than his mother. She had been the one he had called in the middle of the night when he was in trouble. Julie was also the one he had called in tears the night his roommate Neela had moved out, when she had rejected him after her husband had been killed in Iraq and the one he had called her, drunk and in tears after seeing her making out with another man in the hospital conference room.

Julie had seen the disappointment in Ray's eyes when he realized the person who had come to see him was Katey and knew that her little brother didn't have romantic feelings for Katey. She knew he was hoping that his former roommate Neela would come and visit him but she had yet to show up. Julie was also very suspicious as to why Katey was called instead of her after Ray had been hurt because she had always been his emergency contact. She suspected that the other young woman had changed either Ray's cellphone information or his paperwork at the hospital for them to have called Katey instead of his sister.

Julie's cellphone started to ring and she left Ray's bedroom, walking down the hall and stepping out on the front porch. She answered the phone and smiled as the voice of Donald Anspaugh came across the phone.

" Dr. Barnett, this is Dr. Donald Anspaugh at County General Hospital in Chicago. We have received your application for the Chief Of Staff position that is available and were wondering when you could come for an interview?"

" How does the day after tomorrow sound? That will give me time to pack and say goodbye to my brother."

" I heard what happened to Ray from Dr. Pratt. How is he doing?"

" The flaps are almost healed and they are just about ready to fit him for his prothestics. He is hoping to be back in Chicago by Christmas. Is there something wrong with Dr. Rasgotra because Ray was hoping to hear from her."

" Dr. Alvaro didn't tell you what happened here did she?"

" No, she didn't. What is going on?"

" The day your brother left town, Neela went to a peace rally and was trampled after a bomb threat. She is staying with Dr. Lockheart until she is recovered but she is not ready to travel anywhere for right now."

" I'll be sure to tell Ray what happened and that Neela is recovering. I'll see you the day after tomorrow." Julie said, fighting not to hang up the phone and go back into the house to confront Katey right then and there.

" Thank you, Dr. Barnett and tell your brother that all of us her at County wish him a fast recovery."

" Thank you."

Julie hung up the phone and fought not to scream out loud in frustration.

' That's it, you little witch! When I get that job in Chicago, you and Dr. Gates are going to both pay big time for causing my brother pain. I'm going to make things right for you, Ray and help you be with the woman you love, I promise!' Julie thought to herself before she went back into the house.

Julie walked into Ray's bedroom and saw the look of relief come across her brother's face as he saw her walk into the room. Katey and Jacy were both sitting at his side, talking about every useless topic that they could think to talk about and Julie could see Ray was just about at his breaking point.

" Jacy, don't we need somethings at the grocery store before you can cook dinner tonight?"

" Yes, thank you for reminding me, Julie."

" How about you and Katey go while I sit with Ray. I have something I need to talk to him about."

" Of course. Are you ready, Katey?"

" I don't know if I should leave Ray, he might need me."

Julie saw the desperate look in Ray's eyes and knew she had to get Katey out of here before Ray said something harsh to her.

" Katey, I handle a lot of Ray's private affairs and there are things that he can only talk about with me. Besides you need to get out of this house, you haven't been anywhere else since you got here."

" Okay, I will go but I will be right back here by your side as soon as I get back, Ray." She said, leaning over to try and kiss him on the lips. Ray turned his head away and she ended up kissing his cheek instead.

Katey and Jacy both left the room and pretty soon were in Jacy's car, going to the grocery store. Julie sat down in the chair beside Ray's bed as soon as she knew they were gone.

" Ray, I am going to Chicago to interview for the job of Chief of Staff at County. Dr. Anspaugh told me what happened and why Neela hasn't been down her to visit."

" Julie, what happened?"

" She was trampled while she was at a peace rally after somebody made a bomb threat. It happened the same day that you left town. Katey knew all along and didn't say a word."

" That little...!"

" Raymond, you are not to say a word to her. Since she is leaving tomorrow, I'm going to offer to take her back to Chicago in my car because you know what they say keep your friends close and your enemies closer. When I get that job, I'm going to make things right for you, little brother, I promise. Katey and Tony Gates won't know what hit them by the time I'm through with them."
