Gundam Seed: Divine Intervention

Notes from the Author: Here I go again… A new story about Gundam Seed... This revolves around two characters: Dietrich Chen, the Problemsolver and Heero Yuy, the Perfect Soldier. You might have heard about Dietrich Chen from my old stories. He is the same as the one described in them. The storyline of Gundam Seed will change in this fic because of their sudden and abrupt appearances. I can only hope you readers would like this as much as my old Gundam Seed fic. Please be reminded: I haven’t discontinued the old Gundam Seed fic yet. It will be updated when my writer’s block diminished. And one more thing, this fic is related to the old one in some way and some of its elements being used here as well. You will find out soon enough.

I guess you should know this as well. I was planning to include the Wing Gundam into this fic without its powerful buster rifle. There wouldn’t be too many self designed mobile suits here in my fic as well. I would probably make use of the current list of mobile suits appearing from the Astray Manga Series, Stargrazer and the other Gundam Series. The pilot of the Freedom is expected to change as well. Look forward to that, guys!!!

Without further ado, Phase 01 coming up!!!

Synopsis on this Phase: Basically, discover the reason why the two main characters of this fic had to take a trip to the world of Gundam Seed… If you read my fic before, you should have guessed it already.

Phase 01: The Beginning

-Somewhere on a highly classified planet, ‘The Association’ Primary Fortress-
-Date/Time: None-
-Point of View: None-

Walking along a hallway leading to one of many entertainment rooms within the fortress itself, a messenger sent directly by the headmaster is briskly making her way towards the known location. The particular entertainment room is owned by members of the Company Lima and it certainly look like this messenger is looking for one of them. Way before she manages to arrive at the entertainment room, she can hear voices yelling from within. Unable to figure out what is going on, she chooses to find that out herself by making her presence be known inside. It becomes clear to her why it is so noisy right now.

“Come on!!! Come on!!! Cover him!!! Cover him now!!! YES!!! 1… 2… Hey!? What the hell?! How the hell did he kick out?!”

“Yeah!? You’re right, Dietrich!!! This is unbelievable… No one is capable of getting up after being hit with the FU… How did HBK do this?!”

As soon as the female messenger entered the entertainment room, what she saw is a group of males watching a professional wrestling program on television. There are some females joining in the fun as well. Most of them should be fans of professional wrestling. The female messenger cannot imagine how someone who is totally uninterested in wrestling would still remain here and enjoy the disturbance caused. She certainly cannot bear to stay here for any more seconds. She will need to get the man she wants out of here fast.

“Dietrich… Mr. Dietrich Chen!!! I have a message from the headmaster to you… Hey, do you hear me?” Turning towards the female messenger with an annoyed look on his face, Dietrich Chen, otherwise known by his peers asthe ‘Problemsolver‘, wonder why one of the headmaster’s staff is here to see him. One thing immediately appears in his mind. What she has for him isn’t something good for sure.

“WHAT?! Oh… It’s you, Jane… You’re looking for me… Did the headmaster send you here? Tell me that you are here merely to see me only…”

“Are you nuts? Who wants to waste time coming all the way from Company Lima to see you? It’s not like I am… I am… you know what I mean… I shall cut the chase… You are wanted, Problemsolver… Come with me to see the headmaster now…”

From where I see it, it looks like she did not seem to have come at the right time. Currently watching professional wrestling program, Dietrich has no intention of leaving his seat here. He obviously wants to see it to the end along with his mates. But with the order issued directly by the headmaster, he knew he had to go anyways. He can only curse his luck which certainly does not go his way.

“HUH?! Wait, Jane… Are you telling me to come with you now to Good O’ Gen’s office right now? Can this wait for a while? I’m watching Wrestlemania XXIII at this moment of time… I don’t have the heart to miss that… Can you just…” Upon hearing what he has to say, the female messenger did not waste any time brandishing a look of disapproval on her face, demanding Dietrich to come with her at once. She knows too well that an order issued by the overall supreme commander of The Association is not to be played around with. Dietrich should know better especially when he is good friends with his boss. However, Jane had to remind him about this. Dietrich has no other choice but to submit to this.

“Dietrich, not that I want to stop you from enjoying… this, but you should know… when the headmaster is on this mode, he becomes a complete workaholic and perfectionist… he wouldn’t allow me to come back to him and say that he will need to wait for you to finish watching the show before you can go see him… He’s gonna kill me and you afterwards… That is career suicide… Don’t make us go through this, D…”

“Fine… Fine… I shall wait for another time to watch this… I’ll come with you now, Jane… Lend me the DVD later, Mick… I will come and get it from you later, okay?” With Jane basically begging him to leave his seat as soon as possible, Dietrich can only shake his head in disbelief and sigh disappointingly as soon as he made that request to the owner of the digital video disc. He does not have any desire of causing any unnecessary trouble for Jane, wasting no time to go with her so as to not disturb the others. While taking their time to saunter through numerous hallways that will take us to our destination, Dietrich was hoping to get some answers from Jane about this call-up by the headmaster despite knowing it is nothing good. Unfortunately for him, this information does not seem to be shared with her.

“So, tell me something, Jane… Do you know why he is calling me right now? I thought I was supposed to be off duty for the next two months… I’m planning to go on a holiday back home and visit my kids… Am I about to postpone my plans?”

“I don’t know, Dietrich… He only told me to come fetch you to him… He didn’t say anything else… I didn’t ask as well… But if I am not wrong, I think you better prepare for the worst. You should know… You, being called up by him at a time like this… It’s nothing good… That’s for sure.” These words that came out from her mouth only make him feel even more disappointed, realizing that she is thinking what he have assumed. She isn’t wrong about the fact that the headmaster is calling him now. Nothing certainly comes out good about it when this happens. He will have to prepare for action soon. The Problemsolver can only shake his head in displeasure once again.

“Damn it… Damn that … He promises me himself that he wouldn’t touch me… He even swears that I will get my break… He’s gonna get it from me later… I will guarantee that…”

Even though it took a while, both Dietrich and Jane soon reach the office of the headmaster where he is waiting for him there. His secretary seems to be anticipating their arrival, getting up from her seat to open the door to the headmaster’s office to allow them in. Before that, she addresses her boss first of their advent. They had to stand by outside until they are permitted to come in. That didn’t take too long at all.

“Agent Chen, the headmaster is ready to address you now… Jane, the headmaster permits you to be dismissed and hand in the report about the recent activities of some of our agents to him as soon as possible. He thanks you for bringing the agent here… Agent Chen, if you may…” With the secretary showing him the way, Dietrich is preparing to enter the office and face the music. Before he does so, he bids goodbye to Jane who is more than happy to leave. It seems that she has some paperwork she needs to handle at this moment in time. Dietrich will not hold her up any longer.

“Ah… It looks like I am not needed now… You better get going, Dietrich… I should too… You hear her… I got a report to complete…”

“Yes, I hear that… Guess we shall see each other later, Jane… I have a feeling we may have to soon enough… Ah, damn it!!! What kind of luck am I having right now, I wonder?” Once he bid goodbye to his intelligence provider of his previous mission and perhaps for this mission as well, Dietrich began to step into the headmaster’s office, seeing his boss sitting behind his desk while reading some documents. His secretary closes the door behind Dietrich once he enters the office, wasting no time to find out the reason why he is being wanted here. The headmaster is ready to respond to his annoyed subordinate.

“Hey, Gen… What the hell is going on? What do you want with me here? You say that I will get my break… What now?” Seeing how enraged Dietrich is, the headmaster attempt to calm him down with his words of wisdom. He is afraid that Dietrich may be too pissed off to listen to what he has to say. Putting down the documents he is reading at this point in time, he look at one of his excellent field agents in seriousness. There is no way Dietrich would be able to avoid that stern look from him.

“Calm down, Dietrich… You probably guess what I want you to do now. I know that this seems unfair to you… I don’t have a choice now when we have a shortage of manpower here. This is a mission that only you can take on… I promise you I will return this favor to you doubly. Would you at least care to hear what I am about to say right now?” Like the same way he knew about being called up by the headmaster on the verge of taking a vacation from his work, Dietrich exactly knew what his boss mean. This shortage of manpower here is as real as it gets especially after many field agents relinquished their jobs, died in action or honorably discharged by the Association having to go through a recent precarious war that almost erased the existence of our agency for good. If it wasn’t because of the direct involvement by the top brass, this confrontation, initiated by the combined forces of many of our archenemies, would have been a success.

At this moment in time, most of the highly experienced and well skilled field agents were fulfilling their duty of protecting the time, space and history of various universes while Dietrich himself has just returned from his previous mission after accomplishing it with flying colors. Initially, despite his achievement in that particular assignment, he had thought that taking a break now when the Association is barely managing to keep its operations going, may not be a good idea. The fact that he is being called up to the headmaster now proves it.

Knowing that there is little chance he can argue with the headmaster and does not have the heart to do so especially when the headmaster is basically demandingly hoping him to put his vacation plans aside and his colleagues working hard to perform their duties, a helpless Dietrich agreed to listen to Gen, finding himself a seat. Seeing what his field agent is doing, the headmaster ensues to pick up a set of documents on his desk and give it to Dietrich, directing his attention towards the hologram image appearing right in front of them. The particulars of this personnel is being shown above the desk as the headmaster began to explain the reason why he is displaying this to Dietrich. The Problemsolver at least has some idea what this is about now.

“Hmm… Good, Dietrich… I see that you are preparing to listen… I am grateful that you understand… Now, please direct your focus on the hologram right now… He is what your next mission is all about…” Observing a picture of a ordinary looking boy from the hologram image, Dietrich took some time to read his particulars before running through the set of documents given by Gen. While he is doing so, the headmaster show no hesitation to give Dietrich a clear explanation of what his mission is. It appears that what Dietrich has assumed came true.

“This boy you are seeing here… His name is Kira Yamato… As far as we know, he holds the key of saving his own world from utter turmoil and violence… In his world, two human races are competing with each other for survival. Their war has gone so hostile that they might end up destroying each other in the process. This Kira Yamato, if our prediction is correct, will be able to end this war and establish peace in his universe. However, according to our intelligence and some hard facts, this boy is being targeted by some external forces not belonging to his world. One of such forces is a long time rival faction of yours, the Intergalactic Invasion Corps… I think their objective is to invade this world… By killing Kira Yamato, they will make use of the war between the two human races to assist them in achieving their goal. They have already made numerous attempts to assassinate this boy but we managed to prevent that from happening… Now, this boy has joined the military of one of the human races and the chances of him being killed have increased. The current field agent assigned to protect him cannot manage on his own anymore. Your mission is to go down there and take charge of safeguarding the boy until the prediction came true. We don’t know when and how it is going to happen due to the lack of intelligence officers at this time… You will go down there and make your own judgment. There will be a chance that your involvement might greatly affect him and the path he will take in the near future but we cannot care about that right now… This is basically what your mission is about, Dietrich…”

After hearing a ton of what the headmaster is saying about the mission, Dietrich can feel himself falling asleep bit by bit. Gen has become longwinded as always, talking endlessly about the mission that Dietrich himself can read from the set of documents in his possession. To the Problemsolver, this does not seem to be a difficult job for him. Protecting a boy like this is simply a piece of cake, so much so that he is already feeling bored at this moment in time. Hearing that the Intergalactic Invasion Corps have something to do with this does not motivate him at all. He happens to be the one who almost wiped them out completely during one of his previous missions. It’s easy to guess how much he belittled them after what he has gone through battling against these ambitious and dominating aliens of invasion. Once the headmaster ends this ‘speech’ of his, Dietrich has this to say.

“Is that it? That is all you want me to do… Although I don’t like the fact that there may be other external forces besides the IIC wanting to make his universe a living hell by murdering him first, this is simply too easy… Are you really going to give such an easy task for me? In my opinion, you can give this to someone less inexperienced than I am… but come to think of it, there’s the problem with the manpower shortage, isn’t it? I suppose you should have thought twice before assigning me with this mission… Ah... I guess I will do it… Don’t see that I can have a choice in this… Am I right, Gen?” As I am prepared to resign my fate and accept this assignment without an option, the headmaster seems to have something else to tell me about his decision why he want me to take on such a simple task. I have no idea he already have that in mind before calling for me. The prospect of having a partner never crosses my mind at all.

“You’re definitely right, Dietrich… I appreciate your understanding… I most certainly hope you would accept this as well… Due to the nature of the IIC not being the only external forces there wanting to conquer that universe, I have personally handpicked someone to be your partner. If I am not wrong, he should be here any minute now… Please work well with him during this mission… Give your guidance to him as well… He will need it for his future involvement with us, if you know what I mean…” Dietrich was completely stunned when he hears from Gen that he will not be working alone in this assignment. There will be someone accompanying him and it sound like he is a newbie. Dietrich, who tend to work alone most of the time, does not feel good about this. However, it is too late to say anything anymore.

Just as he tries to, there is a knock on the door of the office that Gen answers, seeing his secretary opening the door. It looks like his partner has come on time. “Erm, Headmaster, Agent Heero Yuy is here to see you…”

“Good, send him in, Jolie…” The name simply rang in Dietrich’s mind. It appears that he seems to have heard of this name before. His eyes widened as the person that materializes in his mind was standing at the entryway of the office, making his presence be felt. Dietrich cannot believe what he is seeing.

“Agent Dietrich Chen, please meet Agent Heero Yuy… Agent Heero Yuy, this is the partner you will be working on your first mission… He is one of the best I currently have… Learn from him earnestly, Agent Heero Yuy…” Responding to the headmaster’s instructions, the always silent Heero made a slight nod on his head as Dietrich was about to erupt in a burst of rage. He cannot believe that Heero is here. What he even cannot understand is the need of him to be in this mission when Heero is here. In his own opinion, the ‘Perfect Soldier’ can do this assignment alone without the need of a partner. I ensue to let his viewpoint be felt.

“Hold… Hold on a second, Gen… That’s… Is that really Heero Yuy?! The one who pilot the Wing Gundam Zero, one of the most powerful mobile suits ever designed and constructed?! So the rumors are true… that you have joined the Association… But… if he is assigned to this mission, why do you need me, Gen? His battle abilities as well as sense of judgment are good enough even without him going through our version of advanced military training… in my opinion, he is more than capable of working on this assignment alone… Are you wasting my time?” In an annoyed manner, Dietrich asked, wishing the headmaster to answer him. He already has an answer ready to shoot back at Dietrich which he did effectively. Dietrich was left speechless after that.

“No, I am not wasting your time, Dietrich… You say that Heero himself is capable of taking on an assignment alone… I really doubt that… He just came out from our training academy as fresh as a reddish tomato and has no idea how we work over here… He will need someone to teach him the trade and he knows it himself. As a matter of fact, it is him that proposes to me to get him someone experienced to work with him… I agree with him that it would be you… I know you love working alone… But since this mission is so easy to you, I suppose you can make an exception, Dietrich… Teach him what he needs to know as a field agent of our agency for the future… You can do that, wouldn’t you?” The Problemsolver seems to be eating his own words now, wondering why he is so stupid to boast that this mission will be done with ease. He will now have to contend with the task in coaching the vastly new field agent about the trade, pondering how he is going to do that to someone who already knew about field operations himself. Since there is no way he can get out of this mess anymore, Dietrich will have to take one step at a time. Thinking in another way, it will be for the best in the near future. It is almost a certainty that there will be one more extra pair of hands helping them out in the days to come.

“After hearing what you have said, I don’t think I have a choice, do I? I guess I will live with it… And let me get this clear to you… Not that I like working alone, it’s just that nobody in the Association is capable of matching me in terms of skill and brains, mind you… They will only be a burden to me, if you know what I mean… As for Heero Yuy, we shall see, I suppose…” Stressing this fact to Gen firmly, Dietrich went on to stretch his hands out to Heero, causing the Perfect Soldier to stagger for a while. A gesture of friendliness has been displayed by the Problemsolver plainly, asking Heero to return the favor by shaking his hand. Gen watches elatedly as the partnership between one of his most trusted allies currently and one of his most anticipated newcomers is established right before his very eyes.

“I don’t think you hear the headmaster clearly my name just now, so I shall reintroduce myself again… My name is Dietrich Chen, nicknamed ‘the Problemsolver’… Welcome to the Association, Agent Heero Yuy…” Without showing any traces of hesitation, Heero gave Dietrich the handshake that he sought, still brandishing a look of somberness he always don on that face of his. This is more than enough for Dietrich to smile firmly as Heero did the same to introduce himself to the Problemsolver. It is simply short and sweet.

“Heero Yuy, nicknamed ‘the Perfect Soldier’… It’s nice to meet you, Agent Dietrich Chen…”

The handshake, marking the collaboration of these two, is a clear sign for Gen to allow them to prepare for the road ahead of them. Dismissing them as soon as they are clear about what they will be doing soon, both Heero and Dietrich were leaded out by the secretary of the headmaster until they were totally out of his office, letting them to be on their own.

“Hey, since we have the time, let me show you around… You will need to prepare yourself for the mission as well… You must know where to look for your combat accessories and everything else… Come, time is everything. I hope those instructors back at the training academy teaches you that as well, Yuy…” Placing one of his arms around his neck, Dietrich began to pull Heero to where he desired to go, leading the Perfect Soldier to the most important place for a field agent prep for action should visit. Heero has no objection to that, but did respond agonizingly. Certainly, the Perfect Soldier does not like being headlocked without a shadow of a doubt.

“Roger that… but could you not wrap your arm around my neck? It hurts, you know…” Although realizing that being his guide does not mean he has the right to inflict unnecessary pain on him, Dietrich did not seem to hear him at all. Dragging him along by his head, Dietrich began to show the uncomfortable Heero around this primary fortress. One would wish that they will not end up fighting each other later on. That would be a scene to watch… for some, that is.

As he has promised, Dietrich will teach everything Heero need to learn about the agency from now on and it does help knowing that Heero will be joining his own company. The Problemsolver can only hope that Heero is a fast learner as this is no place for slowpokes. Time is everything around here. No one here can afford to waste it. With their departure into the universe of Kira Yamato being a few short days away, that is certainly true… as true as it gets now or in the near future.

Special Terms

Company Lima: A military department of the Association whose members were all trained to use the power of lightning. There are many other companies around the Association that were taught different abilities relating to nature.

The Association: The name of the agency served by Heero Yuy and Dietrich Chen. Main purpose of establishment is to safeguard the space time continuance of all existing worlds and prevent anyone to take advantage of the power of history to achieve massive goals such as world domination. Established by the Divine Ones (Gods and Deities of various religions believed by the masses)

Intergalactic Invasion Corps: One of many enemy organization the Association had to deal with. Related to the Invaders from the anime, ‘Gatekeepers’. Often attempt to conquer worlds that doesn’t belong to them for the purpose of survival.

Just for the record: Allow me to tell you how Heero Yuy manages to become a field agent of the Association.

At the end of the Gundam Wing Movie: Endless Waltz, we see Heero roaming around a city of the now peaceful world he and his friends have fought to bring peace and maintain it. With his unit, the Wing Gundam Zero, blown into pieces because of its needlessness to this peaceful world, Heero finds himself hard to fit into the society. He was invited to join the Preventers but refused to do so, wanting to distance himself from violence for now. And indeed he has. After a couple of years of numerous job-skipping, Heero finally admit that he did not have the skills to live in a world without violence. He is too stubborn to rely on Relena or any of his friends for that matter. A chance came for him to return to the battlefield again without the need to create war in his own world.

While working as a waiter at a restaurant, he is approached by a frequent customer who always came here trying to befriend him. Heero find this person very suspicious, wondering what his intentions were to get close to him. And finally during one fine night where the moon can be seen clearly, he discover who that customer really is.

When he knocked off from his work, he spots the same customer that did come to his restaurant rushing into a back alley with some sort of device in his possession. Finding this suspicious, Heero decide to investigate. He manages to catch up with him and find out what he is doing. That customer is actually fighting a number of shadowy figures that came out of nowhere. One of them even attacked Heero from behind.

The former pilot of the Wing Gundam Zero, still possessing his agile reflexes, is able to fight off that attacker and realize that it is not human at all. The customer is no human as well, bringing down the shadowy figures with strengths he has never seen before. After killing off most of the shadowy figures, the customer ensues to make sure that whoever he is protecting remains unscathed. Heero can only see two young girls on the ground behind the customer as more and more shadowy figures appear out of nowhere.

Much to the customer’s unawareness, one shadowy figure sneaked behind him and attempt to attack the girls. Heero is there to assist him, thus allowing the customer to realize his presence. As soon as the two of them drove the enemies away, Heero question who he is and what he is doing now. The customer, who happens to be one of the field agents of the Association pledged to protect Outsiders (People that came from other worlds), told Heero everything he knew and his intention to recruit him as one of them. He gives Heero a few days to give him a response. Heero took only one night to make his decision. This is how Heero Yuy becomes one of the field agents of the Association. The story of his new life begins there.

Synopsis on next Phase: The journey begins. Find out how our two protagonists attempt to carry out their mission to protect Kira Yamato… Where will they make their appearances along the timeline of Gundam Seed? How their sudden emergences affect Kira and many others onboard Archangel?
