Cloud watched her silently from the shadows as she picked flowers from the nearby fields. He always kept out of sight, knowing that if she caught him here spying she would go crazy. She liked to be able to prove her worth to the group and in her eyes; Cloud never gave her that chance.

He tilted his head to the side and watched as she tenderly stroked the petals of the precious plants. The sun was radiating off her body, making her hair shimmer and body glow in angelic light. She reached up with her free hand and pushed the hair away from her face. He found himself fixated with the sight before him for a few moments before he was finally able to look away. But even when he was staring in the other direction, he still thought of her.

“What are you doing here?” Her voice snapped him out of his daydream and he turned to look at her. She narrowed her eyes dangerously and placed her hands on her hips. “You were following me.”

“I just don’t want you to get hurt,” he replied.

“I grew up in the slums!”

“That doesn’t mean you’re safe! I’m your bodyguard, I’m meant to protect you!” Her anger suddenly disappeared as she stared at him in amazement.

“I didn’t realise you would take it so seriously,” she replied after a moment. She reflected back to the morning he had come crashing through her Church and frowned. She had only been playfully flirting when she had asked him to be her bodyguard and she thought he had just played along. Cloud shifted nervously.

“It was just flirting.”

“I know,” he replied. “But I…I couldn’t help but take it seriously.” He held her stare, noticing the way her eyes reflected his own.

“Why?” she asked softly, keeping the eye contact.

He was silent for a moment before he let his hand travel across her cheek to pull her towards him. Her eyes drifted closed as she felt his lips brush gently against hers. That was the only answer she needed.
