Chapter One: The Latest Plague

The night of October 21st was unusually foggy. There was an eerie silence- that was soon broken by the sound of staggering footsteps. Although it was only eight at night, nobody seemed to be outside. No cars driving around, and no animals flying and scurrying about.

Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with a very odd colored hair, seemed to take notice to this. He was sitting in front of his window, staring at the street below. “Why isn’t there anyone outside?” He asked himself aloud.

“Ichigo! Dinner’s ready!” His younger sister, Yuzu, cried from the kitchen.

“Be there in a second!” He yelled. He wanted to see someone pass down the street just once. And he did. A teenage boy, apparently wondering where everyone was, was wandering down the street. He had silky black hair that went down to where his neck started. He had numerous freckles on his pale cheeks. He wore a pair of glasses that had swirls where he was looking out from. He could see people, but people couldn’t see his brown eyes through them. He wore a black shirt that had a picture of a guitar outlined in blue, a pair of black cargo pants, and black sandals.

He saw the boy turn around, open his mouth wide, as if he were screaming.

“Ichigo! Come on! Your food will get cold!” Yuzu shouted.

As Ichigo left the room he heard a screeching scream echo through his ears. He ran back over towards the window, and saw the boy running down the street, and people were chasing after them. And they weren’t ordinary people either, some had random chunks of their body missing and were covered in blood, from head to toe, others had claws and what not.

Ichigo saw the boy hop over a fence, and then disappear into the darkness. He stood there paralyzed with fear. Yuzu stormed up to the bedroom, and saw her brother standing there staring out the window.

“Ichigo? What’s wrong?” Yuzu asked.

“N-Nothing Yuzu. Let’s go downstairs and eat okay?” He edged her out of his room.

All Ichigo could think about while eating, was the boy. He wondered if those monster things were just apart of his imagination. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of knocking on the front door. Anxiety swept over him.

Isshin, his father, got up to answer the door.

“Dad! Don’t!” Ichigo yelled, standing up from his seat.

His dad looked at Ichigo.

“OPEN THE DOOR! PLEASE!” A voice from the outside screamed. “I don’t wanna be torn to pieces!”

Isshin opened the door, to see the boy that Ichigo had seen from before. The boy pushed Isshin back, and slammed the door shut behind him. He looked around. “A knife. A knife. Do you have one?” The boy asked. Ichigo noticed that there was a tint of fear in his voice.

“What do you need a knife for? Oh no! Don’t tell me you plan to kill us!?” Isshin cried.

“Shut up! They’ll hear you!” The boy covered his mouth. “Okay. What I’m about to tell you… is going to seem very, very, very, fictional… but you’ve got to believe me. There are zombies outside. I was getting chased by them…” He whispered.

Ichigo thought of when he saw the boy getting chased by the ‘monsters’. “So they were real!” He yelled.

The boy looked at Ichigo, and said, “Yeah zombies are real… Wait! You saw them too?”

“Yes… I saw you being chased by them… but I thought they were fake…” Ichigo replied.

“Well now you know they’re real. We can’t stay in his house. They’ll be coming here soon… We have to leave. NOW.” The boy said.

“Have you been drinking or something?” Isshin asked.

“And/or taking drugs?” Karin asked.

“No!” The boy replied.

The front door began to shake violently.

“Let’s go. You do have a back door right?” The boy asked,

“Yes.” Yuzu said.

“Alright! Lead the way!” The boy said, “Oh my name is Ian Delacour. Thought you should know this because we might be together for a while.” He smiled.

“I’m Yuzu. Nice to meet you.”

“Ichigo.”

“Karin.”

“Name’s Isshin Kurosaki. Welcome to the family!”

“Okay. Okay/ Let’s just get out of here before they break down the door, and we have sprint…” Ian said pushing them out of the kitchen.
