Chapter One

In spite of their dad's instructions regarding their impending move, it was several weeks before they actually moved out to Hawaii. Their father had been extra- picky about this particular job transfer, going to luncheons and dinners with his correspondent nearly every night, which made Riley's and Rhuben's life that much easier.

They had only met the 'correspondent' once, but once was enough to figure out why he was taking his time. Miss Aly was tall, slim, and beautiful with short black hair and dark brown eyes. Mr. Jackson had been nicer to his sons and daughters than ever before in the presence of the young woman, and Sydney thanked their lucky stars she had made a good impression.

He rarely hit them after meeting Miss Aly and when he had, it was generally because he was drunk, or because they had been too slow with dinner or cleaning. But the only problem was that Miss Aly had broken it off with him so he was back to his nasty self. Although, when others were around he was as sweet as could be. By the time Julius, Riley, Rhuben, Patrick, Noah, and Sydney Jackson entered their new school, the bruises on their faces had completely faded, from their last major beating.

Today was Julius' first day of Aliamanu High, Riley's and Rhuben first day at Aliamanu Middle, and it was Patrick's, Noah's, and Sydney's first day of Aliamanu Elementary. But Riley and Rhuben felt bored enough to frown as the teacher introduced them to the class.

"Class, this is Miss Riley Jackson and Miss Rhuben Jackson."

Riley and Rhuben smirked as all eyes turned to them. There were a few muffled whistles from the boys, which was quickly followed with laughter and a couple snide looks from some of the girls. Both girls were wearing black t-shirts. And they were wearing blue jeans with black flames at the bottom with, red and white flannel shirts around their waists, and black skateboard shoes. On top of Riley's long black hair that had a strand of red and was in a ponytail, and Rhuben's black hair that has a strand of purple and was in a ponytail, were tan panama hats.

"Would you like to say something?" the teacher asked. Riley and Rhuben slowly turned their penetrating gazes to the teacher and smirked.

"Do we have to?" the twins asked.

"Yes" the teacher replied.

"Something" the two chorused.

The class laughed as the twins smirked and headed towards the empty seats the teacher gestured to.

"Hi!" Rhuben glanced over at the person next to her and saw a boy about her age with blonde hair and blue/green eyes smiling at her. "My name's Dante Storm." He was whispering, trying not to attract unwanted attention from the teacher.

"Hn" Rhuben grunted slumping in her chair. A loud cough made Dante whirl around and smile innocently at the teacher his cheeks flaming, causing several of their classmates to titter quietly. Dante sighed audibly when released from the accusing gaze.

Rhuben and Riley didn't even try to pay attention to the lecture; their minds kept wandering to other things. Their father was being nicer to them than normal, and they really missed all of their friends in Sydney, Australia.

"You're late." The teacher's dry comment interrupted their thoughts, as them and the entire class turned towards the door. Dante groaned as he caught the sight of the newcomer, Riley and Rhuben glanced at him. He also had brown hair and browneyes.

"Really, I hadn't noticed." His voice was just as dry. The whole class laughed as he strolled nonchalantly towards his seat.

'I take it he's the class clown'. . . Riley thought to herself, rolling her eyes.

As if sensing her thoughts, Dante leaned over and whispered in her Rhuben's ear. Thanks to Riley's excellent hearing she heard what he said. "That's my friend Chris. He's the class clown. Always getting in trouble"

Riley's expression turned hostile. In all the schools she'd been to, she'd seen guys like that. Guys who thought they were so cool they could get away with anything. And she had hated each and every one of them. She turned towards the front of the room just in time to see the teacher motion towards her and her sister.

"Well, just in case you missed something else, we have new students."

Chris looked up sharply, searching the room until he found them. Riley and Rhuben regarded him coolly, and he met them gaze with disinterest.

Neither of them spoke.

"Well." The teacher coughed lightly, confused by the silence of the three students. "If there won't be any more interruptions." She continued on with the lesson, but even fewer students were listening now.

'Niiiiiiiice' Dante thought to himself.

Chris's face was dark. 'They could've at least said hi' A small voice tried to remind him that he hadn't said anything either but he ignored it.

'I knew it' Riley and Rhuben thought as the bell rang signaling them to their next class. 'Just like the others. What a jerk'

"What class do you have next?" Dante asked running to catch up with them.

"Umm. . ." Riley racked her brain thinking hard. "Science is next."

Dante's face lit up. "Me too! We'll probably have a lot of classes together than. They try to group people together according to their first two periods. That's so lucky!"

Riley nodded slightly and was about to say something when she bumped into something hard. "Watch where you're going." She snapped, looking around to meet the brown eyed gaze of the annoyed student.

"Watch where you're going, new kid." Chris warned, brushing past her.

"Jerk." Rhuben muttered, and then smirked as he froze.

"Watch your mouth" He turned to glare at her.

"Why don't you watch yours, idiot!" She glared back, refusing to back down.

"I told you to watch it!"

"Maybe you're not used to talking to anyone with a brain, loser, but not everybody on this planet worships the ground you walk on!"

"Like hanging around YOU would get me used to being around smart people." He smirked, thinking he'd won.

"You're right. You're so far gone it would take more than EINSTEIN to get anything through your thick skull!"

"Well excuse me for breathing!" He knew it was a weak come back, but he was too furious to keep quiet.

"Only if you promise to stop." She told him bitterly. "Come on Riley"

He began to growl softly, causing Dante to place a hand on his shoulder in warning. "I'm going to get her." Chris turned to face his best friend. "She's going to wish she was never born."

Dante nodded, attempting to look reassuring and failing miserably. He had never seen his brother this riled! 'Wait till he figures out who's in our science class. . .' He thought to himself glumly, envisioning a year full of insults and fights….
