Chapter 23.4: How to Stop an Exploding Man … with Crack!

Chapter One

Mohinder watched as they loaded Matt Parkman into an ambulance. Things didn't look good for Matt, but Mohinder had a feeling that everything was going to be okay. He looked down at the girl wrapped in his arms: Molly Walker. The little girl was crying, and had buried her head into his stomach.

"Shhh, it's okay, Molly. Officer Parkman is very strong man, I'm sure that he'll make it through," Mohinder said.

Molly looked up, with her eyes shining through some tears. "I hope so."

But before Mohinder could add any comforting words into the conversation, a person came swinging around the side of the building, landing in the middle of Kirby Plaza. Mohinder sent Molly over by Micah, and approached the strange man in a red and blue…costume.

"Hey, are you in charge here?" the figure asked.

"I guess," Mohinder answered, still confused about the figure's intentions.

"Was there a fight here earlier?"

"Uhhh, yes…how did you know?"

"My spidey senses."

"…your what?"

"My spidey senses! Don't you know who I am?"

"You seem like a tool."

"No, that's only when I have the black suit on. I'm Spiderman, dude!"

"Oh. Right. Here's the thing, you're a little late. It's over. Nathan and Peter exploded and Hiro stabbed Sylar right through the middle," Mohinder said, starting to trail off and choking back tears as he mentioned Sylar.

"Well damn," replied Spiderman, just as more figures starting piling into Kirby Plaza.

"Did we miss it?" asked a group of humans dressed in the same jumpsuits. The one man…with claws…seemed more than a little angry.

"I saw the Bat signal…I came all the way from Gotham. Which is the equivalent of Chicago, you know," added a man in a black cape.

"There's no possible way that I was late," demanded a man in a red costume. "I ran here faster than most of you flew!"

More and more people flooded into the plaza: people in weird costumes of all colors and shapes. There was even this guy that looked like he was wearing a costume made of rocks, next to a guy…who was on fire? Their noise was becoming deafening.

"Stop it! Stop it! Please, be quiet. SHUT UP!" screamed Mohinder.

The rabble of people stopped talking, except for this teenage boy running around, holding a piece of wood, yelling, "Look at my scar! Look at my scar! Do you know who I am? DO YOU BLOODY KNOW?" He stopped when he noticed that all the eyes had turned onto him. "Oh, sorry chaps," he apologized.

"Look, all you…people," Mohinder started, "there was a fight here but it's now over. Evil has been stopped, but it took from me the one person I loved, and the other person that I probably could've loved."

"And who was that?" asked a man, walking up next to Mohinder.

"Oh, just a man named Peter. He was beautiful, smart, and from time to time became so wonderfully emo. Wearing those bangs over his eyes. Collar popped up," Mohinder choked back.

"Uhhh, I gotta go," answered the man as he walked away. Mohinder turned and saw that it had been the person called Spiderman.

"That was really touching," added a different man, placing his hand on Mohinder's shoulder.

"Thanks," replied Mohinder, looking out at the crowd. "Have you ever seen so many people yet felt so alone?"

"Yes, I have. It's why I like being invisible sometimes. But I have a feeling I may not do that as much."

"How come?"

"It turns out that someone could actually love me, which is great! I have this whacked up love life. I mean, my brother and I are really touchy-feely, my girlfriend got shot, and I thought I liked this blonde chick, but she turned out to be my niece. Now that's just gross – this isn't some alternative universe, I can't do that."

Mohinder looked over into the warm chocolate brown eyes of Peter Petrelli. "Peter!" he gasped.

"Hey Mohinder."

"But you're…you're…alive?"

"Yeah, being able to regenerate is a great thing. But, if you don't mind, I'd like to go check out Sylar's body."

Mohinder nodded, as Peter took the geneticist's hand and gave it a squeeze. The former nurse walked over to the spot near the fountain, pushing past this guy fiddling with a ring that made a green light, past the crazy kid with a lightning scar, and actually stepped through this one girl with brown hair. A little disoriented, Peter made his way to the fountain, and found pools of blood, but no Sylar. He followed the streaks of blood to the sewer. There was nothing there but more blood, and a single cockroach.

"Ewww, cockroaches," he said, placing his foot above the nasty bug. But before he could step down, something toppled him over.

-I am sorry that I had to do that, but I couldn't let you step on me.-

Peter looked up at a blue, centaur-like creature.

-You seem frightened, do not worry. My name is Ax, I'm an Andalite. I'm a good guy.-
