Disclaimer – I do not own CSI! But it’s 6 months to Christmas AND my 25th birthday. So I can, but hope, that my friends and family have started saving! I also don’t own ‘Chasing Cars’ – it belongs to Snow Patrol!
Authors Note – So I have a more angsty piece that I am working on at the moment, but I’ve just watched TGTBTD. I wanted to reach into the TV, and slap Grissom. And then Catherine said her brilliant line, which summed up what I was thinking! So I decided on a non angst piece to relax myself before the finale next week (in the UK here!) And I love this song, so…..
Also, I wrote this yesterday in about 20 mins. So when I read it today, I found a couple mistakes. I've corrected them now.
We'll do it all
Everything
On our own
Grissom was used to being alone. Hell, he would even say he liked it. His borderline obsessive compulsions to clean constantly were never questioned. No one knew that, even on a rare night off, if the urge to vacuum hit, he obeyed. No matter what the time was. There weren’t any arguments in his house. It was quiet. And, when he felt like watching some dumb programme that he had seen, in fact could probably quote line for line, there was nobody else to please, so he could watch what he liked. As a child, there was always someone else who decided what was allowed on the television. So it was a luxury that he allowed himself.

It was a seminar that changed his life. He was called out to Berkley as a favour to an old college friend, who had followed Grissom’s advances.
There he saw her. She arrived to his lecture the first day, a little early, and took a seat a few rows back. She took his breath away. Being the professional he was Grissom spoke passionately, looking around the lecture theatre. Every time he glanced in her direction, she was scribbling frantically.
At the end of the lecture, she approached with slight trepidation. “Hi, Dr Grissom? My name is Sara Sidle.” As Sara questioned him, Grissom realised that she took his breath away in more ways that one. Her mind was incredible.
And so started Grissom’s realisation that, maybe, he didn’t actually like being alone.
I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
After Sara’s near DUI, Grissom realised the mistakes he had made. Grissom had called Sara up, asked her to drop everything, and move to Las Vegas. Here, he had proceeded to push and pull her, until she had no idea what he was thinking. After an uncomfortable conversation with Brass after shift one day, Grissom found out that Sara had overheard his conversation with Dr Vincent Lurie. He knew he needed to fix things, before Sara left the lab, and him, for good.
Adam Trent holding Sara hostage in the asylum was the proverbial straw for Grissom. At the end of shift, he caught Sara on the way out, and asked her to join him for breakfast.
“Sara,” Grissom began. He finally spilled his heart out. He confessed how he felt, how he had felt ever since that day in Berkley.
“Am I too late?” “No.”

No one in the lab noticed the subtle change between Grissom and Sara. Arriving for shift on time, instead of the compulsory 2 hours early as had been their norm. Leaving on time, cutting back on overtime….
Except for Brass. His best friend was happier. His surrogate daughter was smiling. Ellie had made her choice, and cut most of her ties with her dad. And during her enforced vacation, Sara had confessed to Brass about her drinking. It was like a stepping stone to speaking to her therapist. As a result, Brass felt a strong bond with Sara.
During Grissom’s sabbatical, Brass noticed the change again in Sara. The overtime was back. Double shifts were becoming the norm again. Up until the day Grissom returned.
“And you all call yourself investigators.” Brass chuckled to himself, as he watched his new favourite couple leave on time, together, whilst the rest of the graveyard shift remained oblivious.
