Disclaimer: I DO NOT OWN NARUTO!! It belongs to Masashi Kishimoto-sensei! And Anne Of Green Gables belongs to L.M. Montgomery.

(A/N: Everything in italics is most likely Hinata and Hanabi talking in Japanese. Now on with the story my lovely readers!!!!!!)

There was the sound of a twig snapping as a girl of about thirteen walked through the woods near her home. Home. She really couldn’t call it that but it was where she and her younger sister lived. Her name was Hinata Hyuuga and she lived in Canada with her little sister Hanabi. They were originally from Japan but they had been orphaned and so they were sent here to an orphanage. When Hinata was eight and Hanabi was three they were taken in by a rich family called the Hammonds. Hinata worked for the family as a maid so that she and her sister could survive. She and her sister had always been different but now so more then ever. Their eyes were white and there hair black but as if that were not enough they had a secret. They had a kekkie genkai or blood line trait called the Byakugan. Their entire clan had had it but when a few of the elders went mad they massacred everyone including themselves. Hinata and Hanabi and their one-year-older cousin Neji were the only survivors. Hinata and Neji were at the Academy and Hanabi was at a friend’s house. Neji was sent to an all boys school somewhere near Montréal because had had been the protégée of their clan and Hinata and Hanabi were sent to the orphanage. Hinata was currently reading the only scroll that had not been burnt when the mad elders sent the Hyuuga complex up in flames. It looked worn and old because of the many times Hinata had read it to Hanabi before they went to sleep each night. A shrill cry rang out through the still and silent air.

“GET YOUR ASS IN HERE YOU STUPID GIRL!!” the head housekeeper yelled at Hinata as she hurried into the house.

“I-I’m s-sorry m-ma'am!” Hinata stuttered as she put down that bucket of water she had been carrying.

“Here.” The woman said as she thrust a basket into Hinata’s arms.

“Take Mr. Hammond’s lunch to him! Hurry up girl!” she commanded as Hinata scurried out the door and toward that mill that Mr. Hammond owned. As she came out of the woods she saw Mr. Hammond lying on the ground not moving. Her white eyes widened as she ran over to him.

“M-Mr. H-Hammond! M-Mr. H-Hammond!” she pleaded desperately as she shook him. She felt strong arms pull her away from him. Hinata turned to see John. He was one of the men that worked at the mill and the only one who didn’t call her just ‘the white-eyed girl who brings Mr. Hammond his lunch every day’.

“Hinata! There’s nothing you can do! He said his blood sugar was to low about an hour ago but wouldn’t go and see the doctor. He just keeled over dead about half an hour ago.” He said grimly. Hinata just stared unseeingly from him to Mr. Hammond’s still and cold body. She suddenly picked up the fallen basket and began to go back to the house. When she came into the kitchen the head housekeeper came up to Hinata with her hands on her hips.

“What are you dong here with Mr. Hammon’s lunch girl!?” she snarled at Hinata. Hinata looked at her with blank white eyes and said nothing but:

“Mr. Hammond is dead.” She said without stuttering. Hinata then promptly fainted.

Hinata opened her bleary eyes and saw her little sister Hanabi’s face.

Hanabi-imouto-chan?”

Hinata-onee-chan! You’re awake!”

Of course I am silly. What time is it?”

5:30.”

Oh kami! I have to serve the Hammonds dinner!”

Don’t worry about that Onee-chan. I took care of it for you.”

Really Hanabi-imouto-chan? Thank you.”

Oh and one more thing. We’re no longer employed to the Hammonds.”

WHAT!?!??!”

Yeah. We’re going back to the orphanage tomorrow Onee-chan.”

Oh kami-sama.”

The next day Hinata and her younger sister Hanabi returned to the orphanage.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Hammond. But we’re overcrowded as it is. Two more girls are just unacceptable.” Ms. Cadbury the matron who ran the orphanage said to Mrs. Hammond.

“To bad lady. I’ve got a train to catch.” said Mrs. Hammond as she got up and left the office.

“Wait! Mrs. Hammond! There are papers to be signed!” Ms. Cadbury called after Mrs. Hammond as she ran after her.

It’ll be okay Imouto-chan.” Hinata reassured her younger sister who was currently crying.

I-I k-know b-but I-I d-don’t w-want t-to b-be h-here f-for t-the r-rest o-of m-my l-life O-Onee-chan!” Hanabi sobbed into Hinata’s shoulder.

We won’t. And I thought I was the one who stuttered not you Imouto-chan.” Hinata giggled. Soon Hanabi was laughing too.

Later that day xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hinata was sitting on the bed she and Hanabi now shared. It was evening and all the other girls had put on their nightdresses and fallen asleep about an hour ago. Ms. Cadbury came and sat next Hinata.

“Why aren’t you asleep like the other girls and your sister?” she questioned quietly.

“B-because. I-I c-can’t h-help w-wondering…..’W-where w-will o-our n-next h-home b-be? W-will w-we h-have t-to s-stay h-here f-for t-the r-rest o-of o-our l-lives?’ a-and m-most o-of a-all….’W-where i-is N-Neji-niisan o-on t-this c-cold n-night?’ H-he t-told m-me t-to n-never e-ever f-forget h-him a-and t-to p-protect H-hanabi e-even i-if i-it c-cost m-me m-my l-life. I-I p-promised h-him I-I w-would b-but n-now I-I f-find i-it h-hard t-to k-keep t-that p-promise.” Hinata whispered.

“Well I can help you with your first two questions. We have received a request for two of our girls to go and live on Prince Edward Island and I have deicided that you shall be one of them.” Ms. Cadbury said smiling.

“R-realy?” Hinata asked happily.

“Yes really.”

“O-oh. B-but w-what a-about H-hanabi?” Hinata asked becoming worried again.

“I will arrange for her to go with you.”

“O-oh t-thank y-you M-ms. C-Cadbury!” Hinata said hugging the matron.

“Now get into bed and I will see you in the morning.” Ms. Cadbury said as she left Hinata alone once more.

‘See Neji-niisan! I am keeping my promise to you!’ was her last happy thought before she fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
