She hated the cold.
Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter didn't always hate the cold, but she did now and as her luck would have it she was stuck on a huge ice flow, in the Arctic as far as they could tell. They had come back to Earth from Ba'al execution to find their world changed. How she, Daniel and Mitchell managed to survive the changes in the timeline she had yet to figure out- but somehow they had and together they would have to prevail. Prevail over a world that had no idea that the Stargate even existed. That was going to be tricky, but Daniel thought that they would be able to convince Jack that things should have been different. And things were obviously a lot different, the gate was on a derelict barge in the Arctic Circle with supplies and material from pre-WWII and the suits that she and Mitchell wore to keep warm were not near as good as their modern equivalents.
"Hey Sam!" Mitchell called, breaking her train of thought. "We gotta keep moving."
"Coming!" Sam called, walking the few feet to walk in step with him.
They were alone on the ice field that seemed to stretch on for eternity. Daniel was stuck on the ship trying to reach someone from the radio that Sam had fixed earlier and with the frostbite that he had suffered when they tried to leave the ship the first time, it was better that he had stayed where he was.
'I hate leaving people behind…' Sam thought gloomily to herself as she and Cam walked in silence. '…and I always seem to be doing it in cold climates. At least I'm not searching for a way out by my self this time… Cam's with me and I don't know if I could-'
"Thinking of when you were stuck in Antarctica?" Cam asked, his voice muffled through the fabric of his face but loud and clear through her radio.
"Yeah-" Sam replied, nodding as they continued walking. "-and I was just thinking of how much I HATE the cold!"
"You and me both Sam…" Cam agreed with a small laugh. "You and me both…"
They walked in silence for a while before Sam spoke up again. "So…" Sam began with worry in her voice. "…fearless leader do you have a plan?"
"I always have a plan." Cam replied cockily, the sound of his teeth chattering coming through the radio "-I just don't know what it is yet…"
And with that they fell silent again, walking across the frozen ice of their own home planet hoping for a miracle…
