I Love Videl
Chapter 1
“Your mother hates me,” Videl pouted.
“No she doesn’t. She loves you,” Gohan lied, looking at Videl sitting next to him in the passenger seat as he turned to look back at the road. He was driving in the new capsule car Bulma have given him as a graduation present. It was a nice little gift.
Videl gave him a look. “Yes, she does,” Videl said.
“No she doesn’t,” Gohan said again.
“Yes she does,” Videl repeated.
“No…she doesn’t,” Gohan found himself repeating again. “What would make you say a thing like that?”
“Gohan,” Videl said turning to him seriously. “You know as well as I do. Why do you have to keep lying about it? She hates me. I know she does,” Videl said.
Gohan huffed.
Videl continued. “Every time I’m at your house she acts all nice to me, but I can hear her in another room or talking to herself saying, “that girl Gohan always brings home…she shouldn’t be out hanging around him and ‘stuff’. Honestly, it’s not fitting for a girl to be fighting like that…”
“She never says that!” Gohan exclaimed.
“Yes she does!” Videl yelled.
“No,” Gohan shook his head, his eyes ahead of him.
“Say what you want,” Videl said as she sighed, leaning back in her seat.
“Look, I already went to your house after the graduation. I didn’t complain,” Gohan said. “I just want you to be with all of my friends and family. Is that so hard for you to do?”
“No,” Videl mumbled.
The ride to Capsule Corp. was a more pleasant ride along the way. Videl and Gohan had gotten over their argument and began to make mends.
Once they arrived at Capsule Corp, Videl’s smile from laughter at their humorous conversation faded, however, once Gohan stepped out of the car. She didn’t know why her heart was beating so fast. She had met Gohan’s family and all of his friends many times. But now they were all together. She couldn’t just leave when she wanted to. This was Gohan’s graduation party. It meant so much to him and his family. Gohan stressed that he was the only one in his family who had graduated from high school. So it meant a lot that she was there with him. He wanted her to get along with everybody and for everyone to like her.
Videl stepped out of the car and ran over to Gohan’s side as they walked up the steps to Capsule Corp. and rang the doorbell.
Chi-Chi answered the door with a big smile on her face.
“You’re here! Oh we’re so proud of you!” she said, hugging him, almost squeezing the life out of him.
“Thanks mom,” Gohan managed to breath out, with a smile on his face.
“Hey, congratulations!” Krillen yelled from inside the house.
“Yeah, he’s finally here!” another voice called out.
“Come on inside,” Chi-Chi said pulling Gohan’s arm. She then finally turned to look at Videl.
“Oh and I see you brought Videl with you,” she said forcing a big smile. “How nice.”
Videl smiled back, feeling a little uneasy as she stepped inside the house.
Gohan closed the door behind them.
“Son!” Goku yelled, jumping up from the food table. He had already begun eating.
“Dad!” Gohan exclaimed. He grinned as they embraced each other in a warm hug.
“I’m very proud of you ya know,” Goku said, looking into his eyes.
Gohan looked at him.
“I mean it’s cool to be the strongest person in the universe, but what’s even greater is that you finished school and got your education. That’s something I couldn’t even do,” Goku said.
“Thanks Dad,” Gohan said.
Chi-Chi looked delighted as she walked up behind Goku.
“Hey Gohan, how you likin’ that new ride I pimped you with,” Bulma teased.
“Oh it’s great. Bulma you’re the coolest,” Gohan replied.
“And don’t you forget it,” Bulma winked.
“Don’t you appreciate this party I threw for you?” Chi-Chi asked. “Your friends and all your family are here.”
“Oh yeah, it’s nice Mom,” Gohan said. “Thanks.”
“I’m sure you stopped by Videl’s house first after the graduation,” Chi-Chi said eyeing Videl. “And I’m sure it was very nice with them throwing a huge party. Her living in that big mansion of her daddy’s and all,” she continued.
Videl turned slightly red. “Oh, it was okay,” she said. “It was really no big deal.”
Chi-Chi smirked.
Krillen came over and hugged Gohan.
“Hey buddy! Congrats!” he said.
“Thanks Krillen,” Gohan said.
Gohan and Krillen continued to have a conversation of their own so Videl just turned and began to look around. The Briefs had a nice looking house. Sure, it wasn’t as big as hers, but the decorations for the party Chi-Chi and Bulma had put together looked wonderful.
Videl walked around passing by Yamcha, Tien, and Puar. Gohan’s little brother Goten, and Bulma’s son Trunks, ran around getting into some mischief, while Professor Briefs and Mrs. Briefs, Bulma’s parents, engaged into a conversation with Master Roshi—lord knows what they could have all been talking about.
“Vegeta, take these outside,” Bulma told him, handing him a tray of ordurves. They were standing alone inside the kitchen.
“For what?” Vegeta asked indignantly.
“Because it’s Gohan’s graduation party—and I said so,” Bulma said.
“So. I do not like Kakarott’s son. Nor do I take orders from you,” Vegeta said.
“Vegeta, don’t say that. Fine, I’ll just take these myself,” Bulma said, holding the tray and walking out the door.
Vegeta huffed.
“Some help you are,” Bulma mumbled to herself.
“Hey, come here! What are you doing with that?” Chi-chi asked, snatching up Goten by his arm as he and Trunks tried to make a run for it.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Goten said quickly, forcing a sweet smile as he held his water gun behind his back.
Chi-Chi unfortunately saw it and snatched it away from him.
“You will not ruin your brother’s party now do you hear me?” she snarled.
“Okay,” Goten said disappointedly as Chi-Chi let him go.
Trunks, who stood nearby, waited until Chi-Chi left. When Chi-Chi was out of sight, Trunks pulled out his water gun.
“Don’t worry Goten. I’ve got another one.”
Videl sighed as she looked around. Gohan was still talking to his dad and all of their friends. She looked back at Eighteen.
“And that was how I knew I wanted Krillen to get me a new Benz Capsule for our third wedding anniversary,” Eighteen said.
“But Krillen doesn’t make that much,” Bulma said, arching her eyebrows.
“He makes enough,” Eighteen said giving her a dead on look.
“So Videl, what do you want to do after high school?” Bulma asked turning towards her.
Videl was a little surprised. It was the first time someone had asked her that. Gohan hadn’t even asked her about her plans after graduation.
But before Videl could speak Chi-Chi had cut in.
“I know she probably doesn’t want to stay at home or have kids and become a housewife like I did,” Chi-Chi said.
“Oh no,” Videl said a little taken aback. “Who said anything about not wanting kids? I mean I want kids. Maybe not now, but I’m too young to even think of that. I want to go to school first and get a job—maybe become a lawyer or something.”
“Really? Having your background I thought maybe you’d become a pro-fighter or something?” Chi-Chi asked with a smirk.
Bulma and Eighteen exchanged looks.
“So you don’t want to cook for your family, keep a standard household, and be a loyal wife and take care of your husband?” Chi-Chi asked.
“I didn’t say that,” Videl began.
“Look, I know what you’re thinking,” Chi-Chi began. “My father trained me in martial arts. He taught me to take care of myself. But I wouldn’t set that as a high priority for me. I knew that for my main goal in life I wanted to become a mother and a housewife. I wanted to get married and as soon as I did my plan was to start a family,” Chi-Chi said.
“Look, that’s nice and all,” Videl began sincerely, “but I have different goals from you. I wanna get married and I wanna have kids...but if I ever am married I want my husband to understand my need to be happy which includes my independence and having a job and life outside my family. I mean, Mrs. Son you can understand that. We’re both--well, you were a fighter. We both know how it is to follow our dreams and know what we want. Except--well I wanna become successful some day and look at you—“
The group grew silent as Chi-Chi placed a hard glare on Videl.
“I mean...you know what I mean,” Videl began to apologize.
Bulma and Eighteen turned bemused looks at each other as they sipped their tea.
“Well, I guess I’ll just go,” Videl said stepping away from the three ladies.
Videl splashed some cold water onto her face. Things just weren’t working out. She wanted to go home. How did Gohan ever talk her into believing that she’d fit in? She turned the sink faucet off as she grabbed a towel and wiped her face.
Videl sniffed. She wanted to go home and never think about it. All this time after she found out who Gohan really was--that he had powers and strength beyond hers, she never felt like she deserved to be with him. She always seemed to not be good enough. Definitely not to his mother, and not to herself.
A tear almost crept from Videl’s eye just when she heard a small noise. Videl looked up into the bathroom mirror. She thought she saw something behind her. Videl brushed away her thoughts and was just about to leave when she heard a voice.
“What are you doing here?” someone asked.
Videl whirled around. “Huh?” she asked.
“I said, what are you doing here?” the voice demanded. Vegeta stepped out. “Isn’t it your little boyfriend’s party?”
Videl stopped shortly. She looked at Vegeta. She looked straight into his dark eyes and him into hers. Videl knew she wasn’t supposed to like Vegeta, even if he had changed. Despite hearing how Vegeta was supposedly reformed from his old ways and had a son by Bulma, she never said much to him and always avoided contact.
“So,” she spat out. That was the only thing she could think of to say. Her mind was off somewhere else.
“So,” Vegeta repeated raising his eyebrows.
Videl sighed. She placed the towel down. “Look, I’ll just leave,” she said walking towards the door.
“I didn’t say you could leave,” Vegeta said sternly.
Videl raised her eyebrows. “And I didn’t tell you to be a jerk, or—so short!” she snapped.
“Who do you think you are?” Vegeta asked.
“Why are you such a head case?” Videl asked angrily.
“Little girl you know nothing about me,” Vegeta said.
“And you know nothing about me so shove it,” Videl said.
“Is that why you were crying?” Vegeta sneered.
“What?” Videl asked.
Vegeta smirked.
“Look, I was not crying. I came up here so I could wash my face—“ Videl tried to explain while Vegeta continued to smirk even more and laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Videl demanded.
“You silly human,” Vegeta said.
“I may be human but that’s not so bad. At least I have a heart,” Videl said.
“And I don’t?” he scoffed.
“I wouldn’t be able to know,” Videl said coldly.
“Like I said...you know nothing,” Vegeta said.
“Yeah, well I don’t care,” she snapped, glaring into his eyes.
“Watch how you talk little girl,” Vegeta said angrily.
“Last I checked you’re not my father,” Videl said.
Vegeta chuckled, “I couldn’t dream of wanting to become that pathetic excuse of man and a fighter.” And with that, he laughed even more.
Videl’s anger intensified as blood rushed up to her veins. Her first instinct was to punch Vegeta in the face.
She thrust her fist aiming for his face...but surprisingly, before she even lifted her fist away form her side, Vegeta held her by the wrist tightly.
“Let me go,” she demanded.
“No,” Vegeta responded.
He looked into her eyes.
Videl challenged him back as she stared at him trying to prove to him that she wasn’t afraid.
They were both spoiled brats. Both were used to having their own way and not taking no for an answer…not from anyone.
Vegeta pulled Videl closer to him. His eyes flickered and danced wildly as they looked into hers. He could feel Videl squirming a little bit as she became closer to him. It excited him a little to see the fright in her eyes.
Videl could feel his breath on hers. She noticed his face which presented his noble features; his nose and his lips, which presented the smirk he wore; his skin, his muscles, and his well-toned body—and his muscles.
Videl looked back up into his eyes and realized they were no longer staring into hers but roaming her body.
Her shiny black hair, which had grown out some, hit slightly past her jawbone. The small, skimpy, tight dress she wore clung to her athletic body, hitting in all the right places right against her creamy complexion.
Videl was getting nervous with him staring at her…even though she admitted--it kind of felt good...though she didn’t know why. A man had never looked at her like that before...with that same intensity in his eyes in which Vegeta wore. And usually if they did, she plummeted them—or her father did for her. But for the first time she felt so weak and vulnerable. Like she was unable to move…and strangely she didn’t want to.
“Videl! Videl!” a voice from downstairs called. It was Gohan’s. “Videl, where are you?”
Videl, finally slipping back to reality, realised that she was at her boyfriend’s graduation party. That boyfriend was named Gohan and not Vegeta.
Vegeta released his grasp from her, realising they were calling Videl back to join the party. “You better go,” he said.
Videl walked past him slowly down the hall and towards the stairs. Before she turned past the corner, however, she looked back at Vegeta, who stood standing in the dark hallway staring back at Videl.
Videl stared back at him. Then she walked away.
