Hi everyone, Kaybee2 here with another fluffy ficlet for you all to enjoy! I thought it would be good timing to write a fanfic celebrating the 4th of July, because it has such a simply romantic air...hee hee. It's not much of a real fanfic, just basically a tiny little oneshot that helps relieve the part of me that's constantly longing to write random fluff without having to create a deep and suspenseful plotline.

On with the fic!

Oh, yeah, I forgot... DISCLAIMER: I do not own Danny Phantom. Danny Phantom and all of its characters belong only to Butch Hartman.

Okay, now on with the fic!

----------

Sam Manson opened her eyes and blinked a few times at the bright ray of sunshine that splashed across her bed. As she yawned and sat up, she glanced over at her calendar and realized that it was the Fourth of July.

Sam groaned and her head fell back on her pillow. She'd never liked this day.

There were too many little kids waving sparklers around, which Sam hated thanks to a sparkler accident several years ago that she still had scars from. There were also the bottle rockets and shooters that her neighbors would set off constantly throughout the day and evening, all the stupid noise giving Sam a headache.

And then there was the fact that everybody seemed to be in love with someone on this day, and of course Sam was always forced to watch all the couples cuddle together on their little blankets, not paying attention to the fireworks at all. This bugged Sam to absolutely no end. Not only because she found the abundance of goo-goo eyes way too mushy for any human to comprehend, but also because it caused Sam to longingly think about a certain bushy-haired and unbelievably gorgeous half-human half-ghost hybrid.

Sam sighed, pondering over whether she should even go see the fireworks with Danny and Tucker tonight, when she heard the shrill tone of her cellphone ringing in her ears. She sat up, reaching over on the top of her dresser to grab her phone.

"Hello?" she asked, yawning.

"Morning, Sam," said a cheerful-sounding voice Sam knew all too well.

"Hi, Danny." Sam couldn't stop herself from smiling as she pictured his lopsided grin on the other side of the phone. "What's up?"

"Nothing much...I just got up a little while ago. Are you coming to see the fireworks tonight in the park?" Danny asked.

"I'm not sure, Danny."

"What do you mean? We go every year!"

"I'm just...not sure I want to go this year."

"Why not?"

Sam bit her lip. "I don't know...I've just never been too crazy about the 4th of July."

"Are you sure you don't want to go?" Danny asked, a little hesitantly. "I was actually hoping that maybe you and I could go together tonight."

"You mean me and you and Tuck?" Sam asked, confused. "We've always done it that way, haven't we?"

"Yeah...but I meant you and me without Tuck."

"You mean...just the two of us?" Sam asked, her heart beginning to beat quickly.

"Yeah. I...have a little surprise for you, Sam."

Sam smiled, now completely hypnotized by her infatuation. "All right, Danny, I'll come."

"Great!" Danny replied, the cheerful tone tback in his voice. "I'll pick you up around eight-thirty, okay?"

"Okay," Sam agreed.

"Perfect," Danny told her. There was silence for a few moments, then Sam could hear Jack's, Danny's dad's, voice booming over the reciever. "Hey, Danny, get off the phone! I need you to see this new invention..."

Sam laughed, and Danny did too. "I guess you heard him?" Danny asked.

"Yep," Sam replied, smiling.

"Well then I'll talk to you later, okay? Tonight at eight-thirty, remember that."

"Okay, I'll be there."

"Okay. Bye, Sam."

"Bye, Danny."

Sam hung up the phone and couldn't keep herself from sighing with contentment. Danny wanted to go with her alone! Sam smiled dreamily at the thought of it. She also wondered what that "surprise" was that Danny had mentioned.

For the rest of the afternoon, Sam didn't do much. She tried watching television, she tried surfing the internet, she tried reading a novel...but nothing would get her mind off of Danny's little surprise. When eight fifteen finally rolled around, Sam had driven herself crazy with anticipation. At exactly 8:17, the doorbell rang.

"Hey, Sam," Danny said, smiling, when she answered the door.

"Hi Danny," Sam replied, attempting to act as casual as possible.

"Ready to go?" Danny asked.

"Yep, I'm ready whenever you are."

"Okay, perfect." Danny quickly transformed from Fenton to Phantom, then put an arm safely around Sam. "Hang on tight."

"I always do." Sam put her arm around Danny and held him tightly.

Danny flew up into the air, and Sam smiled. "So...what's this little surprise you mentioned earlier, Danny?" she asked.

Danny smiled. "You'll see," he told her, a small, nervous undertone to his voice.

When they arrived at the park, Danny flew right over where they usually sat.

"Danny...where are you going?" Sam asked him. "We usually sit over there."

"We're going somewhere quieter, where there aren't so many people," Danny replied.

Danny flew over to a large hill covered with soft, green grass. There was already a blanket set up for the two of them. Danny set Sam down on the blanket carefully, then he reverted back to his human form. He sat down next to her on the blanket.

Danny checked his watch. "The fireworks should be starting any second now," he told Sam.

Sam nodded, and the two of them looked up into the dark, dark sky. In a brilliant flash of color, fireworks began to explode across the night sky.

"Wow...I never realized how beautiful they really were," Sam whispered to nobody in particular. Danny had heard, though, and he smiled and scooted a little closer to Sam on the blanket.

Sam noticed this, and it made her face heat up in a blush and a lovestruck smile appear on her lips. She scooted a little closer to Danny, as well.

All of a sudden, four different flashes exploded in the sky, all the color of bright lavender. Words appeared from the explosions, one by one, and Sam couldn't help but read them aloud.

"I...love...you...Sam," she read, her tone becoming softer and softer with each word.

"Surprise," Danny said softly.

Sam was pretty sure her heart had stopped. She turned to Danny, tears of joy falling from her wide amethyst eyes. "Danny..." she breathed. "I..."

That was when Danny leaned in toward Sam, causing her voice to trail off. He brushed his lips ever so gently against hers, and Sam closed her eyes, not daring to move. Danny pressed his lips gently onto Sam's. After a few moments, Sam's tongue requested entry, and Danny allowed it. Eventually, Danny separated his lips from hers very slowly, as if trying to make the kiss last as long as possible.

"Danny...I love you, too," Sam whispered, smiling. "I've loved you for a really, really long time."

"I've loved you for a really, really long time, too," Danny replied. "It just took me a little while to realize it." He smiled, and put his arm around Sam.

"You know...I think I might actually like the Fourth of July from now on," Sam whispered, grinning from ear to ear. She leaned her head on Danny's shoulder comfortably, and they sat there on the blanket together...watching the fireworks.

Aww...I love writing fluff! It makes me feel so warm and squishy inside...

So, how'd I do? You know the drill: review, review, review!
