Disclaimer: I don’t own dungeons and dragons and I only really own one of the characters in this story.
Beta: me so… none really though I’m sure Pigwhisk will point out any mistakes I make.
17 July 304NA (New Age)
It was the middle of the day when the door to the inns door swung open something it didn’t do as often as you would think. The Hammery was a small village inn, in the shadow of the Dwarves Mountains and the dwarves wouldn’t come near it so it was really just “heroes” and the local drunks in there. I’m still not sure which o these our friends were, I’m not certain I can face the answer that it that they were both.
Stinil was therefore much more obvious than he had planned. Really he had been intending to make a big entrance by slipping in to the back of a noisy inn with a roaring fire in the corner. Everyone turned to look at him and several of them fell of their seats in surprise at seeming some one who could stand up straight. Well it had to happen some day, they were just expecting one day to be a long time from now. The innkeeper, who was sober but had spent so many years behind the bar that he was now in a permanent duck to avoid flying bottles, shuffled towards him.
“Welcome to The Hammery. What will you have to drink?” Stinil looked around not quiet certain he really wanted anything that had spent any length of time in a place like this before replying.
“I’d like a room. This is an inn is it not?”
“Yes, yes,” said the innkeeper hurriedly, “Umm… I think the room on the left at the top of he stairs still has sheets on the bed. I’m afraid we’ve had a bit of a dry spell as far as customers are concerned.”
“And what counts as a dry spell around here?”
“Well, I think… let me get this right we had some one through here back in June.”
“That’s not too bad.” Said Stinil feeling a little better.
“Yeah, July 285.” Shouted one of the less drunken men by the bar. Stinil had a longer look at them there was about seven of them in total.
“What’s your name?” Stinil asked the man.
“Waffle. Spelt W..E..T..F..Y..L.”
“Wouldn’t that be wetfill?”
“NO!” Shouted the man standing up and turning to Stinil. He was really quiet big when he stood up. He appeared to be human. “It’s pronounced waffle but spelt Wetfyl.”
“Okay, Wetfyl.” Said Stinil pronouncing it properly this time. He had a thought, “Wetfyl, are you staying some were near?”
“Yeah, I’m staying with my fiancée.” He turned to the person next to him. “This is Kaede my fiancée.” Kaede turned round, she too appeared to be human.
“Nice to meet you Kaede.” He held out hi hand to the woman.
“Whatever.” She said glancing at Stinil before looking back at her pint.
“I’m Stinil by the way.”
