Chapter One: Not a bit
Kimi was playing with fire.
Figuratively and literally. She was an artist. A migrant artist, earning money as she went. She was best known for her pottery, and the designs on them. She was well known for her hand at drawing as well. Her pottery was known far and wide for the designs on them, and the special glaze, which could only be obtained by three different ways. All three dealt with fire.
Way number one was nigh impossible, and it had to do with sticking the pot you were using into dragon fire, phoenix fire, or hell fire.
Dragons (not to mention a phoenix) haven’t been seen for thousands of years. And there was no way she was going near hell fire.
Way number two dealt with Amaterasu, or the goddess’s flame. Also where you stuck the pot you were working on into the flame. Not as impossible as finding and taming a dragon, but stilll…..
The last way, was to take a concoction of bloodroot, hemlock, Amaranth, fritillary, Pusilla, heartleaf, twistflower, monkey flower, and a whole list of rare flowers, simmer for a month, and then add various other plants, including one that only flowers once every 300 years. After another month of simmering, you dunk whatever you want in the glaze (after painting it in another special glaze used to color it) and fire the pottery for about a week at a constant temperature.
That was the literal part.
Figuratively, she could get really burnt. If she were caught by the ninja of any of the countries she traveled to, she would probably be sentenced to death.
Why?
Well, they do that to you when you harbor missing Nins in your home.
Yes.
Kimi has housed many missing Nins in her many houses. Another reason why she’s a migrant artist.
The other reason is her muse keeps fleeing. Her muse likes new sights, new people, new food, and new customs. So, when her muse disappears, she goes wandering. Normally after a hundred or so miles she catches up.
There is a reason she houses missing Nins. At first, it was to find about Amaterasu, the goddesses flame. She set up contacts that eventually led her to the flame. All the time the police and other security forces were none the wiser.
She met with some one who would act as a go between with the only known person who possesses this Amaterasu, and within a week they had all the details worked out. Whenever a missing nin was in the area, she was to allow him or her to stay until they could leave. In return, she received the goddess’s flame when she needed it.
So far it was going well.
There was one problem though.
Most of the missing nins didn’t like her.
Not a bit.
