Goodbye

"We are leaving you, Jak."

Those were the first words he heard when he regained consciousness. Slowly, he opened his eyes and sat up, wincing as pain ripped through his torso. He looked up, expecting to see Torn or any of the others. But instead, he saw his Light and Dark selves looking down at him. His Light side had an expression of mild concern on his face, while his Dark side bore an expression of extreme boredom and carelessness. Slowly, Jak struggled to his feet. Facing his alter egos, he said calmly, "What do you mean, you're leaving me?"

"I mean, you no longer need us. The cities-No, the whole world is at peace. It is time for us to go." Light replied.

"But the peace won't last long, you two know that! If the world is in trouble again, I'll be helpless! And not just me, but the whole city!"

"Oh, will you just shut up and let us leave!" Dark snarled. Jak glared at him. "Easy for you to say! You two can quit whenever you'd like, but I'm going to be stuck here in Haven City, destroying the enemies and being the hero over and over again, forever!" He replied.

Light sighed. "There are no enemies to destroy, Jak." He said, exasperated. Jak stared at him. "What?" he cried in disbelief. "No enemies?" Light shook his head.

"We killed all of the enemies during the battle, every single one of them. I even checked." He replied. "That is why we chose to leave now."

Dark smirked. "It was so easy. They hardly fought. Weaklings." He flexed his claws. Jak rolled his eyes at him, and then sighed. "I just hope Dax is okay." He muttered. Then he started. "Daxter! Where is he? He was on my shoulder when the battle started! And the others! What happened to them?" He exclaimed.

"Do not worry. They are fine, save for some small cuts and bruises." Light quickly assured him.

"Although, I was planning to have the rat for breakfast…" Dark muttered. Light shot him a look that said Shut it. Then he looked at Jak. "So, are you going to let us go?" he asked softly. Jak stared at him for a moment, and then sighed. "Yeah, I guess so." He replied.

"We thank you. But first, let us give you a gift." Light said. He held out his hands to Jak. In them was a clear, medium-sized sphere, with a white gooey-like substance floating in the center.

Jak stared at it. "What is it?" He asked. "It's an Eco Container, duh!" Dark snapped. Light shot him another look then said sarcastically "Yes, as Dark so patiently explained to us, this is an Eco Container." Then switching to his normal voice, "It contains every type of Eco in the world. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Light, Dark Eco, it does not matter." Jak took the item. "When used, it emits a powerful, unnamed energy that will either heal or harm upon your command. But I shall warn you: There is only a small amount of Eco in there. You can only use it once, and no more. So choose to use it when the time is right."

"Thanks" Jak muttered. He glanced at Dark, who was looking rather impatient, arms crossed and tapping his foot. He smirked and jerked a thumb at him. "I think you two better leave soon. One of you is getting cranky" He said to Light. Dark, hearing this, snarled at Jak. He growled to Light "Enough with the weepy goodbyes, let's go!" Light nodded in reply, and then said, almost sadly, "Goodbye, Jak. I hope we shall meet each other again in the future". As Jak and Dark watched, he leaped high into the air, flapping his wings until he was just a shining blue-white light in the sky. He kept on flying higher and higher. Then there was a blinding white flash, and Light was gone.

It was Dark's turn. He gave Jak a grin that was neither cruel nor kind. Then, like Light, he too leaped high into the air, his black, soulless eyes shining with an unnamed emotion. He dove down at the ground below him, vanishing through the earth. He too, was gone, and Jak was alone. Sighing, he turned and began the search for his friends. He soon found them, nestled in a large gap of a ruined building, unharmed. Jak then searched for a vehicle, one that wasn't blown up, or were just pieces of scrap metal lying along the ground. He found two badly scratched and dented vehicles, though they were still in working order. Then, with him driving one and Torn driving the latter, and all the others crammed in the back seats, Jak drove off into the setting sun, leaving bittersweet memories and a torn battlefield behind him.

Author's Note: Ah yes, another story! This isn't exactly true, since both alter egos would never leave Jak, ever! In case you're confused about the setting, it's after a major battle. A "battle-to-end-all-battles" kind of thing. Look, I know what you're thinking when you read the part when Light said "There are no enemies to destroy, Jak." Well, what if more enemies come from another distant planet? What's Jak going to do now? Since I got kind of lazy and couldn't think of a proper comeback, I banished the thought out of my head and continued writing. If you're not convinced, here's a quick reason: During the battle, Light flew up into the universe and issued a warning to all of the villains who were thinking about sabotaging Jak's world. He said: "If you even touch one elf in this planet, Dark and I will come back here and kick your's (and anyone else who's in your puny little army) $$! UNDERSTAND?" Yeah, that's what he said. Now leave me alone!
