Out of nowhere the boy stated that he was selling his ancestor’s old things. To Auri’s relief, the bell finally rang and everyone left before they were told to sit back down.
Auri was a junior in high school. She was part Native American, which explained her lightly tanned skin and dark brown hair and her black eyes. Auri’s father, like Mikaela’s, was a grease monkey, which was why they were best friends. They both loved to work on cars. Auri also had a part time job at a local mechanic shop as a mechanic of course.
“Your late again, Auri.” Her boss, Mr. Muse, said angrily, “The next time I see you come through those doors 20 minutes after you’re supposed to be here, you’re fired. Understand?” he asked getting in her face.
“Yes, I understand Mr. Muse, it won’t happen again.” Auri said, annoyed at her boss for only being late at least twice. Auri set her stuff down and got to work on an old car.
Later that night, while Auri was making her way home, she heard someone call out to her. “AURI! HEY AURI STOP WILL YOU?!?!” Auri stopped and turned around to see Mikaela sticking her head out of a yellow 1977 Chevrolet Camrao coming down the road and pulling up next to her.
Auri’s eyes went wide. “Mikaela? Where’s Trent? And what’s with the car?” She asked confused at seeing that Trent was not with his ‘bunny’. The very thought made Auri want to puke.
“Trent was a total ass, so I ditched him. And this is Sam Wit-somthin’.” Mikaela said pointing to the boy from history class. “It’s Witwicky, and it’s nice to meet you.” He said smiling. Auri returned the smile.
“So do you need a ride home?” Mikaela asked. Auri nodded and got into the back seat, and drove off. Moments later, Sam stopped in front of her house. Mikaela let her out, “So I’ll see you tomorrow for lunch right?” she asked getting back into the car.
“Yeah, and thanks for the ride home Sam. I’ll see you around some time.” Auri said walking up to the front of her house.
“I’m home!” she called once she walked in, only to be tackled to the ground by her year and a half old brother, “AW-EE, AW-EE!!” he laughed not saying her name properly. Auri laughed along with him and gave him a big hug.
“Hey Danny!” she smiled while getting up and grabbing her stuff along with Danny on her back and walked into the kitchen. “Hey mama, dinner smell wonderful.” Auri said putting her stuff down and setting Danny on the table.
“Auri, your home early.” Her mother said. Auri explained about the car ride she got home and how she was almost fired. “I hate that man! He gets in my face about every little thing done wrong around that stupid shop of his! Maybe I should just quite.” She said dropping her head on the table, rather hard, “Ow.”
Later that night, after Auri put Danny to bed, she found herself thinking about Sam’s car for some reason. It had done some pretty strange things during the ride to her house. Like how the radio would just come on and start playing ‘A Little Gasoline’ by Terri Clark, which was one of Auri’s favorite songs, or how she would hear a strange sound in the back of the car. It was like the car was showing off for her.
The next morning, Auri woke up trying to remember what she was supposed to do today. ‘What was it? I have the day off from work today. What was it?’ she couldn’t quite remember it. ‘Oh yeah! Makaela and I are going shopping!’ she thought getting out of bed. Once she was done getting dressed, Auri made her way to the kitchen, only to once again be tackled to the ground by Danny.
“Aw-ee pay!!” he said giving her that innocent smile of his. However, it didn’t fool Auri. She picked her little brother up and said, “Not today. Maybe tomorrow, k?” she said looking at his pouting face.
Once she was done eating and done with her chores, Auri left the house to meet Makaela at the café. As soon as she was on the sidewalk, she looked over to see the same yellow 1977 Chevrolet Camrao parked on the side of the street. Auri looked at it for a moment, and then walked on by.
Auri made it just in time to see Makaela taking a seat. She quietly walked over to her, “Hey, whatcha doing?” She asked startling her friend. “Hi Auri, you know, I really hate it when you do that.” Her friend said frowning at her best friend. While they were talking, they could hear someone screaming. They looked over to see Sam riding a pink little girl’s bike with the basket and bell and everything. Out of nowhere, Sam lost his balance and flew off the bike.
“Sam?” both girls said at the same time. “Are you alright?” Makaela asked looking down at the boy. “Y-yeah, but my car’s following me though!” he panicked when the three of them turned to see his car, with no driver. “Wow…the car’s possessed...” Auri said staring at the car.
Sam suddenly got up and ran for it. The car followed him. Auri and Makaela looked at each other and ran over to Makaela’s scooter.
They ended up in some old and abandoned garage. That’s when Sam ran out, “you have to get out of here! There’s a monster in there!” he yelled running towards them. Auri got off the scooter and slowly made her way to the garage.
“There’s no monster in here.” She said looking at him like that was the dumbest thing she’s ever heard. Suddenly, a large metal hand wrapped itself around her. Auri screamed at the top of her lungs, looking into the face of a giant robot with red eyes. “Give me the map or the female dies!” It roared. “Auri!!”
