CHAPTER 1: “Harsh Feelings”
The school bell rang as Tomo and Yomi hurried off to room 3-2 after eating their lunches together. “You just had to fall asleep on the roof, didn’t you?” yelled Yomi towards a very drowsy Tomo. “Well, it was your idea to eat on the roof-“began Tomo, who was interrupted by a loud “BAKA!” from Yomi. About three seconds before class started, they made it into the crowded classroom. “Nice of you to show up so early” said a tired Yukari-sensei, who was in the middle of a rough hangover from a big party. She then pointed to the chalk board that read “COPY!” with a ton of English notes. Of course, very few would actually do this. A mild whispering was born as soon as Yukari-sensei fell into a deep sleep.
“How was lunch?” asked Osaka, who was in a bit of a daze. “It was okay” said Yomi. Chyo was a bit curious and politely asked “what did you have?” “Oh, just the usual curry and rice” responded Yomi. Tomo saw an open window, and decided to really tick Yomi off. “How’s that ‘granular diet’ going for you, Yomi?” said an annoying Tomo. “It’s none of your damn business!” said Yomi in a dull, yet angered tone. Tomo decided it would be a good idea to amend the subject before Yomi got too angry. “Well, anyway my lunch was exciting-“, began Tomo, again interrupted by Yomi. “How could lunch be ‘exciting’ if you slept the whole time?!” yelled Yomi. Tomo jumped up from her chair, and responded in an uproar of insults. “More thrilling than when you tried to touch my-“BAM! Yomi gave Tomo a very powerful left upper cut to Tomo’s left cheek. What was once a mild whispering now turned into “FIGHT!” being chanted repeatedly by all the students.
Yomi’s facial expression quickly changed from anger to worry and frustration. Tomo was lying on the ground with a large bruise on her left cheek. The other students acted like they barely cared. The only person they were concerned about was Yomi, along with her powerful fists of rage. Chyo and Osaka simply stared. They couldn’t register the fact that Yomi would ever consider punching Tomo that hard. “I- I think we should go” suggested Osaka. She and Chyo walked slowly and carefully to the door. The noise was even loud enough to wake Yukari-sensei. However she easily was more concerned about getting fired than the state of Tomo. Yomi stood in front of Tomo’s lame body. She was so shocked at what she’d done, she couldn’t move, let alone talk. ‘I must’ve punched her pretty hard’ thought Yomi. It was true. She had punched Tomo so hard that she was taken to the hospital for a busted cheek. As the crowd cheered “YOMI!” Yomi didn’t feel the happiness they did.
At the hospital, Yomi sat next to Tomo as she slept in her bed. On the other side, a monitor showing her name and vital signs continuously delivered a steady beep to Yomi’s left ear. After about an hour of examination to Tomo’s head, the doctors informed Yomi that the punch to her head was so hard, Tomo may not make it. He explained that the punch created a shock directly to Tomo’s brain via her skull. This overwhelmed her central nervous system, which was now slowly shutting down. “A medical phenomenon” said the neurologist. “In all my years of working with the brain, I’ve never seen an indirect damaging of the brain quite like this.” Yomi couldn’t respond. She fell numb to the doctor’s words after he mentioned that Tomo may not make it. The doctor left Yomi, and was immediately replaced with a still-shocked Chyo and Osaka. “I didn’t mean to punch her so hard.” “We know” said Chyo and Osaka in unison. Tomo’s low pulse started to rise, and an extremely tired Tomo awoke to the three girls standing next to her. “Tomo, thank God you’re still alive!” exclaimed Yomi. “Y-your left upper-cut was very powerful” explained Tomo in a very raspy voice. “Don’t worry about it, Tomo. You’re going to be alright. The doctors will fix that cheek.” Yomi’s voice was broken off by a change in the monitor. What was once a rhythmic beeping had now downgraded to a long beep that wouldn’t stop, along with other beeping in the background. Suddenly, ten doctors and nurses rushed into the hospital room, and attempted to revive Tomo. “Charge to 180 and CLEAR!” yelled one of the doctors holding a defibrillator. “Damn, charge to 240 and CLEAR!” still no response from Tomo’s body.
“COD cardiac arrest, time is 2:40 PM, Tomo- WHAT THE FUCK?!”
END CHAPTER 1
AUTHOR’S NOTES: You may notice that the setting is very similar to an episode of the series. I’m sorry if you are upset with a modification of the story, and I send you my biggest apologies.
On another note, Chapter 2 will definitely be longer. This is my first fanfic in a long time, and I hope you would please R/R this one for me. This is sort of a ‘pilot’ for my journey into the world of fan fiction. Hope you enjoyed the cliffhanger, and suggestions are welcome! As you can see, I left a cliffhanger for you guys to ponder. THIS IS NOT CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE, FOLKS! You are welcome to make minor suggestions, but the decision will ultimately be mine.
See you at Chapter 2!
