The Set Up
Riza was getting ready for the blind date that Fuery and Breda set up for her. They told her that they found the perfect man for her. Even though she took no interest in guys whatsoever, Riza agreed to go out of pure curiosity. After all, she hasn’t even tried dating before! Any guy who could come up to her to ask her out on a date would be seen running away from a pistol directed to his head.
She took a quick shower before putting on her bath robe as she looked for what outfit to wear that night. She opened her wooden cabinet and started browsing through then crisp, neatly hung and arranged clothes. Riza’s reddish-brown eyes narrowed a little as she couldn’t decide on what to choose from the few formal and casual clothes she owned. There was this navy blue sequined dress she wore during last year’s Christmas party, a white long-sleeved blouse with a matching skirt that Sheska gave her, and lastly, a sable black dress, which reached up to her knees, that she bought out of a whim when she went to town last week.
I guess this would do. She thought as she took the black dress and put it on. It was simple yet it exudes a feel of sexiness and elegance. She slipped her feet onto a pair of unadorned stilettos before sitting in front of the mirror to fix her hair and make-up.
When Riza was finished with all the preparations, she grabbed her purse from the top of her bedside table and bid Black Hayate good bye. “Be a good boy and watch over the place okay?” she said, patting the dog on the head before closing the door.
“Let’s see now, they told me that he would be meeting at this restaurant.” Riza looked around from the piece of paper where the name of the agreed place was scribbled to see where it was. After a few minutes, she found it and quickly entered the restaurant.
“May I help you mademoiselle?” the waiter asked her.
“I had a reservation made here, the name is Riza Hawkeye. May I know where the table might be please?” she replied politely.
“Oh, yes. Right this way ma’am.” He said, guiding her to a table where a man was already waiting. She couldn’t see his face since it was obscured by the menu.
“Good evening.” The man greeted her as she took a seat in front of him.
“Oh, good evening to you too.” Riza replied calmly. “I’m Riza Hawkeye and you are?”
“Wha-? Riza?!!!” the man placed down the menu.
“Sir?!!!” Riza’s eyes widened in shock upon seeing Roy Mustang.
“What are you doing here?” they asked in unison. “Are you the blind date Breda and Fuery set me up with?”
“Man! I had no idea you were the lovely lady they were telling me about!” Roy exclaimed, still bewildered.
“And I presume, I’m not the lovely lady you were expecting?” Riza’s eyes narrowed as she raised one brow.
“No. How could you think that way? What I was trying to say was that I got something better than I expected.” he replied, flashing her, his trademark smile that made girls go crazy over him. Riza simply glared at him before calling the waiter, much to his chagrin.
They ordered some steak and champagne and ate quietly. There was an awful silence between them as they ate before Roy made the initiative to strike up a conversation.
“So, uh…how did your transfer go?” he asked nervously, looking up from his plate.
“I’m doing fine so far. It was easier to work without having to constantly remind people to do their paperwork instead of lazing around daydreaming or flirting with the passing lady cadets.” Riza replied coolly.
“Ah..well…now that I think of it, my hearing has gotten better lately since I haven’t been hearing gunshots in my office.” Roy said with a smug smile plastered on his face.
“That’s nice to hear.” She muttered in a monotone voice before she resumed eating. And after that, everything went silent again between them.
Good grief! She’s the hardest girl I’ve ever dated! Roy thought gloomily as he gulped down the contents of his glass.
When they were finished eating, Roy paid the dinner even though Riza insisted on giving her share. “It’s us men who should be paying for a date, not the ladies.” He told her.
He walked her back to her apartment since it was just a few blocks away and because it was getting pretty late now. “Would you like to come in for some tea sir?” Riza asked him as she opened the door.
“Thank you, and please drop the ‘sir’ after office-hours.” He replied with a warm smile. He took off his coat and placed it on the hanger behind the door. Riza asked him to wait in the living room as she prepared some tea in the kitchen. Roy nodded and sat on the sofa. Looking around he saw a few picture frames on the centre table. The first frame showed a toddler Riza playing with a small toy water gun, the next was a picture of her with her parents and the last was Riza in her late teens, holding a bouquet of white lilies, looking radiantly beautiful.
“Here you go.” Riza said as she laid down a cup before him.
“Thanks.” He placed down the frame and took the cup in his hands. “Say, Riza. Do you mind if ask you something rather personal?”
“No. Go ahead Sir.” She answered, taking a sip from her cup.
“Have you…ever had…. a boyfriend?” he asked her. An astonished Riza almost spat out her tea upon hearing his question. “No sire. I didn’t have time for such stuff as I had spent my childhood learning about guns and firearms from my mother.” She replied stiffly.
Her mother? But she looks so sweet and frail! Roy glanced at the picture depicting Riza’s mum. Hmm…now that I think about it. Riza looks awfully like her.
“You on the other hand sir, I need not question about whether you’ve had a girlfriend or not since there have been far too many to be recounted.” Riza said coldly.
“Yes. Far too many indeed. But there is only one woman I loved and still do so.” Roy answered in a low voice. “And no matter what I do, I can never have her.”
“I guess we’re both unlucky in love sir.” Riza looked down on her tea. “I too, cannot have the only man I ever longed for.”
“Riza?” Roy turned to face her and gently lifted her chin so that his eyes met hers. “I love you. Since the day I first laid eyes on you when your father introduced me to you. I’ve fallen in love with you.”
“I…I. feel..the same way too sire. From the time you were still my father’s pupil and up to now.” Riza said in a muffled voice as she clutched his shirt tightly. He cupped her face with his hands and gave her a full long kiss. Riza flung her arms around his neck His hands were making his way down to the zipper of the dress when she pulled away. “What if the higher-ups find out?” she asked worriedly. “Then we’ll face them together.” He gave her an assuring smile. Riza nodded quietly. She stood up and went to her bedroom to get Black Hayate. “He might disturb us.” She told Roy coyly.
After setting out Black Hayate’s place in the living room, Roy scooped her up in his arms and carried her off to the bedroom. Riza’s hand reached for the zipper of her dress when he swatted it away softly. “That…is my job, love.” He said, kissing the side of her neck as he slowly, unzipped her dress and pulled it off. Riza pushed him to the bed and began unbuttoning his shirt. “And this is mine.” She teased.
Clothes tossed to the floor, arms and legs intertwined, lips locked, the two lovers expressed their love for each other throughout the night.
Sniff…I can’t write about lemons yet…I’m such a coward….I’m so sorry….but still I hope you liked this quick story on Roy and Riza. Sniff….
