Transformers After Earth
Chapter Two - The New Hood Ornament and Drinks
The dull blue form of the Teletran Ark glided closer to the asteroid that was more or less like a galactic truck stop. So like a truck stop it wasn’t exactly clean and was in need of some repair but in space what doesn’t. The docking control center went through the routine docking protocols. When he realized that the Cybertronian shuttle was in control of humans the operator became very belligerent, but none the less he granted them docking.
“We’ve arrived at the Shuttle stop,” Markers said, “Our docking codes have been accepted”
“Finally we can get off the ship.” Burner said, “Though granted we have to endure being glared at by every race of alien life on this rock.”
“Oh well they’ll just have to deal with it and I’ll be happy to oblige blasting a hole through them,” Zeta said rising from the steering control console after shutting down the engines, “besides Burner you and Streets are helping me with our new hood ornament.”
“Well, let’s get moving,” Streets said dragging Burner with him.
“In the mean time the rest of ya can do whatever, but we leave the shuttle as a group,” Zeta said in a commanding tone looking at Markers, Gizmo and their final member the violet haired engineer, Trix, she didn’t look like she was an engineer but Spazz knew better. Trix was the best. The girl wore a dark gray tank top, with a black T-shirt style vest overtop. She also wore dark green pants with combat boots but hers were not like the others, they were slimmer and did not allow small weapons to be hidden instead she had a large knife strapped to her lower right leg just above her boot. Holstered behind her back sat her small hand held laser, several pouches hung off her belt many of which held tools used for repairs and it allowed her easy access in an emergency, “Trix could you run a diagnostic check of the landing thrusters, for me?”
“Sure thing boss,” She replied, then had a look of confusion, “But why would you need me to do that it’s not like were ever going to land on a planet.”
“Well may the cosmos forbid we ever had to make an emergency landing we might need them,” Zeta said with a slight humor while maintaining a serious tone. Trix mouthed an ‘ooh’ as she realized that the red head was right.
“Sure thing I’ll get right on it,” and with that the violet haired girl jogged from the bridge to the large engine room.
“Well let’s get that slab of metal welded to the hull.” Followed by Streets and Burner, Spazz left the bridge to the airlock. The three of them got into the modified space suits. They were more similar to that of motorcycle riding suits but still had the obvious equipment need to walk out in the vacuum of space. These suits were more maneuverable then the bulky suits that were used in the early 2000’s. But as fascinating as history is it’s just that, history, there are no records left to read back upon and there may never be. So it’s more important to look ahead then to think about the past, its better that way, too many bad memories.
Once suited up and air tanks checked, the three spacewalkers opened the large airlock in the cargo bag allowing the zero gravity to make moving the Scramble City slab easier. As Streets operated the Cosmo lift to push the slab, Spazz and Burner guided the larger member of the team through the bay door.
“((Gizmo could you give me that last variable again?))” Markers asked over the communication link. Gizmo reread his last finding before replying.
“((Oxygen 20, Nitrogen 15, carbon dioxide 5,))” Gizmo replied crossing the room to another console.
“((Yeah I’m getting the same reading ok its good for now,))” the 2IC said, the sound of paper flipping was heard as she wrote down the variables, “((Nitrogen levels are a little high but not enough to cause us problems make sure to monitor that while you down there, notify me if it changes.))”
“((Okay will do, Gizmo signing off.))”
“((Yep see you up top in a few.))”
“So glad we can finally get off the ship,” Trix said closing the panel she had been repairing. “I doubt Spazz is looking forward to it though.”
“Yeah but I’d prefer we’d have made it to New Calgary already,” Gizmo replied then grinned, “that way we wouldn’t have to restrain Spazz this trip.”
The techie and engineer shared a laugh or two. They were walking through the corridors heading to the upper levels of the shuttle at this time.
Sitting back, she stayed in a crouched position a moment. Wishing she could wipe the sweat from her forehead, she stood up. Satisfied with the weld Spazz deactivated the magnets on her boots. She pushed off from the hull and towards the Cosmos lift that floated nearby. Burner and Streets sat on the machine waiting, seeing their captain drifting towards them Streets stood up and reach out his hand to the red head. Spazz took the weapon specialist’s hand and landed smoothly onto the lift.
“Well how does it look boys?” Spazz asked over the small radio that was built into the suits.
“Great boss,” Burner said looking at the ship. The bright red Autobot insignia looking back at the three, “you know it does give off a sense of an approaching hope.”
“Yea that was a good idea Spazz,” Streets said, the red head turned to both guys and nodded. Streets then took to the controls and piloted the lift back to the cargo bay. “Well let’s get back inside I bet the others are anxious to get onto some solid ground, kind of.”
Inside the remaining members of the crew stood waiting as Spazz, Burner and Streets removed their space suits. Spazz strapped her holsters back onto her belt and thighs. Once done she gave her right arm a good look through, flexing her fingers, wrist, elbow and shoulder making sure nothing was out of placed and working properly. Satisfied she got off the bench and joined her friends.
“Let’s get some drinks,” Spazz said the moral of everyone was better, there was excitement in the air. They all were glad to finally get off ship for a while. But even on a asteroid like this one humans were frowned upon and treated poorly, especially those branded as slaves.
“Nice crowd,” Markers said the others nodding in agreement. Uncomfortable with the stares Spazz’s right hand hung slightly over her gun. Spazz glared at those in the room, her fingers twitching in anticipation.
“What are you looking at?” Spazz growled to an alien being next to her that stared at there brand and her arm. She relaxed when everyone turned their attentions back to before the group arrived. The six humans walked through the aisles of booths and tables and headed to a booth near the far wall.
They took a seat as the waitress approached them a little hesitant believing the stories told about humans and their primitive customs. Of course none of it was true. The waitress spoke in a dialect that is pretty much the English of the galaxy. The common language for trade in space, it’s called the trade language. It wasn’t very imaginative but it works and no one had a problem with the title.
Spazz ordered six glasses of a drink that was very similar to beer on Earth but it had a kick like whiskey and the tangy taste of fruity coolers. She spoke in the trade dialect and waited for the waitress to walk away to get their drinks. In the mean time the Teletran Ark crew studied a holo-chart to decide where to go to search for HOPE. Spazz and Markers has yet to figure out how to activate the map that the two owned. So for now they just followed rumors and leads of a large orange sphere traveling through the stars. So far the only lead they had was leading them to the Alpha-Centauri system, on earth it would be the closest star system. Something about that system nagged Spazz at the back of her mind like she was suppose realize where they were going. She shrugged it off as nothing as their drinks arrived.
It was Stormstar that noticed them first. In fact he didn’t believe what his optics was showing him. So he ran a diagnostic to make sure he was functioning normally. He was, his assumptions confirmed, he got his two teammate’s attention.
“Hey ‘Raid, Dice aren’t those humans?” Stormstar asked, knowing he was right but couldn’t think of anything else to say.
“Huh? Where?” Windraider asked glancing to the door as Teletran Ark crew headed for a booth three tables away from them. Though cover by his face mask the navy blue mech smiled, “By the matrix they are.”
“Humans? It’s been centuries since we’ve had contact with Earth.” Dice said watching the six member crew walk to their booth, “they’re young, and I assume they’re around the same age Mae and Zeta were when we first met them.”
“I agree,” the plain white motorcycle said glancing back at the humans, “speaking of which, has Flarescythe or Skidmarks found the source of that signal we picked up a few solar rotations ago?”
“No, they’re not sure where the signal originated from,” Windraider replied looking away from the human group, “In fact the signal is moving and it’s barely able to be picked up. Perceptor is analyzing it as we speak.”
“I wonder what it is.” Dice asked. For the moment the three mechs talked amongst each other. “Why don’t we talk to those humans see if they know anything about it? Plus see if they would come to Cybertron. I bet the Primes’ would be interested in the humans in general.”
The navy blue and white mechs nodded in agreement. But as they spoke the Teletran Ark group was leaving. Realizing this, the three of them got up from their booth and followed, reaching the docking corridor they were a little to late. The Teletran Ark launched and headed into the cosmos. The air around the three mechs had a sense that this won’t be the only last time they’ll see that ship and its crew.
