Fortunately, that math class was the last class that day. I
began walking home with the cartoon characters yelling at each
other over some popcorn.
“It’s my popcorn, Kiyone!”
“Actually, Mihoshi, I bought it myself and I microwaved it, so its
mine!”
Then I heard sounds like somebody munching and chewing
very loudly.
“Goku!” screamed Kiyone’s voice. She screamed so loud that
I winced very obviously. Some people around me looked at me
worriedly. “Don’t eat my popcorn!”
“Sorry,” came Goku’s reply. “I’m hungry.”
Just then I passed by a bakery.
Goku’s voice raised to a pitiful whine. “Oh, look, a bakery…”
I stopped for a moment to look at the foods.
“Don’t you just want some?” whined Goku. “All that delicious
cake just waiting to be munched…The taste of it when it reaches
your tastebuds…It tastes so good…I haven’t had any in ages…”
That was true. I was dieting.
I licked my lips.
“Come to think of it I’m hungry,” chimed in another voice,
Ryoko’s.
“Me, too,” said Kiyone and Mihoshi.
I went in the bakery and bought a slice of cake.
“I won’t have any until I get home,” I thought.
“Till we get home?” complained Goku. “That’s too long!”
“Yeah, it is,” whined Ryoko. “Can’t you just sit down and have
a little nibble? Not too much, of course…”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” said Trunks’ voice, but all the
other voices yelled “SHUT UP!”
I couldn’t resist. The little piece of cake looked so good, I just
had to eat some of it.
I sat down on a park bench and ate it all. It wasn’t as good as
I thought.
“Yes, it was!” said Goku. “Now bring me some pie.”
“No,” I mumbled aloud. An old lady sitting next to me looked
at me strangely.
“Now look! You’re making me talk to myself!” I thought at the
voices.
“No, we aren’t. Just think at us, you don’t have to talk,” said
Trunks.
“When will you get out of my head?” I thought pitifully.
“Oh, as long as we feel like it,” said Dorothy.
Just then my friend Chrissie walked up to me. She dressed
not very much like me—short shirt and shorts, with blonde pigtails.
“Hi!” she said. Her blonde pigtails bounced a little.
“Hi,” I said, grinning at her.
She sat down next to me. “I thought you were on a diet.”
“I am,” I said.
“No you’re not,” said Goku.
“No I’m not,” I repeated.
Chrissie laughed. “Sick of it, huh? I would be, too…”
“Keep movin, Pixie,” Ryoko snarled as Chrissie’s hair bounced
again. “Your hair is pissing me off, just look at the way it boucnes!
I mean, come on! Why would you ever wear pigtails like that?”
“I don’t like your hair,” I muttered. I couldn’t stop myself. “You
look like a pixie.”
Chrissie frowned. “I thought my hair looked sort of bad. I
guess I’ll wear it down.” Chrissie frowned, waved, and left.
I ran home as fast as I could, trying to ignore Dorothy’s shouts
of laughter as she watched Spongebob Squarepants.
“I hate this show,” I muttered.
“I like it,” said Dorothy.
“I…like it,” I repeated.
My brother stared at me. He was sitting next to me.
“Oh boy…” I thought. “How am I going to survive with these
voices?”
