Chapter nine of ‘Dark Emotion’. Again, I’m really not so sure yet of what will happen myself, so… Just be prepared for totally random things that no one expects to happen. I’ll try not to make it end in a cliffhanger, but no promises.
Chapter Nine
“Enough talk! The boy will be fine without you; in fact, he’ll probably be better off.” Axel said, stepping forward and raising his gun level to Bastion’s chest.
“No! Please, stop!” Someone shouted, bursting out from the tree line. “Jaden!” Bastion exclaimed with a gasp as the brunette immediately latched onto him. “Step aside kid.” Axel warned. “No! Please, don’t shoot!” Jaden begged, clutching tighter to Bastion.
Jim placed his hand on Axel’s arm, making him lower the weapon. “Kid, it ain’t safe to be here.” Jim said calmly. “I know. But I’m not letting you kill the man I love.” Jaden shot back immediately. “Do you know what he is?” Alexis asked angrily. “Of course I know; he’s a vampire.” The brunette replied. “Then why are you defending him?” Alexis demanded. “Because he’s a good guy! He’d never hurt anyone!” Jaden yelled.
“Jaden, please calm down…” Bastion said softly. Jaden started to say something to his boyfriend but he was cut off. “Jaden… Jaden Yuki?” Jaden turned to face the blunette who had spoken to him. “Yeah, my name’s Jaden Yuki, why?” He asked, confused. “Don’t you remember me? I’m Jesse Anderson.” Jaden’s eyes widened in shock. “Jesse? But… I thought you were dead…” The brunette said, his voice faint. Jesse smiled sadly. “And I thought you were dead. Oh, Jaden, I never thought I’d see you again.” He said happily, walking over to the brunette and hugging him tightly.
“Jesse, where do you know him from?” Jim asked curiously. The blunette had never spoken about his past. Jesse pulled away from Jaden, turning back to face Jim and the others. “We grew up together. Jaden and I were like brothers, we were nearly inseparable.” He stated enthusiastically. “Our mother’s were best friends, and we lived next door to each other, you just couldn’t see one of us without the other being far away.” Jaden added.
“That all lasted until the day vampire’s attacked, right?” Jim asked. Jesse nodded, but Jaden looked confused. “Vampires? I’ve always been told it was a gang related thing.” The brunette said. “Well, it was, in a way. It was a gang of vampires. Which is why almost everyone in our small, secluded town was butchered.” Jesse explained sadly.
“So, it was vampires who…” “Who killed my mom, yeah. Jim was one of the hunters who got rid of them, and he took me in when he learned I didn’t have any family other than mom.” Jesse told his friend.
Jaden looked back at Bastion, who met his eyes briefly before lowering his gaze to the ground, before looking back at Jesse, and the hunters behind him. “I’m sorry.” Jaden said softly, looking away from his long lost friend. “What are you talking about Jaden?” Jesse questioned, startled and confused.
“I-I know I should hate vampires after what they did to us, to our town, but- I just can’t! I love Bastion too much, and I won’t let anyone hurt him.” Jaden said firmly, turning away from Jesse. “But, Jaden-” “I’m really sorry Jesse. But I can’t turn my back on Bastion. He trusted me with the information that he was a vampire, and he told me not long after we met. And, I love him too much.” Jaden told him, lacing his fingers with Bastion’s.
“Enough of this! We came here for one thing; and that’s to eliminate all vampires!” Axel roared, raising his gun and firing at Bastion. Bastion pulled Jaden close to him and turned around, intent on shielding the teen from the bullets whizzing towards them. He closed his eyes, expecting to feel the rounds hitting his back, but that feeling never came. Bastion opened his eyes and looked behind him, gasping at what he saw. Atticus grinned at the raven-haired vampire, opening his closed fist and dropping the bullets he had stopped in midair.
“Hi Bastion. I came to warn you about hunters in town, but it looks like you already met them.” The brunette vampire said happily. “But, what are you doing in town?” Bastion asked, confused. Another bullet whizzed by Atticus’ cheek, almost hitting him, and he whirled around and threw one of his daggers. Axel dodged, but the dagger nicked Jim’s shoulder, who had been trying to hold back Axel.
“Bastion, we can talk later, but right now you need to get out of here!” Atticus shouted over his shoulder to Bastion. Bastion started to protest, but Atticus glared at him so he simply nodded and grabbed Jaden’s hand. “I’m coming with you.” Jesse told him firmly.
“If you can keep up, fine.” Bastion snapped at him. He knew from listening to their conversation that Jesse was extremely important to Jaden.
“Are we… going back to… my apartment?” Jaden questioned breathlessly. The brunette wasn’t used to having to run this fast through thick trees that had protruding roots that kept trying to trip him up. “No. They might be able to find us there, and it would put your mother in danger.” Bastion replied.
“Where… are we… going to then?” Jaden asked, confused. “Atticus has a safe house just on the edge of town. He always has a shielding spell around it, so no one should be able to locate us. Will both of you be able to run that long?” The raven-haired vampire questioned. “Yeah. Don’t worry about me.” Jesse replied. “I’ll… be fine… I hope…” Jaden panted, his legs already burning in protest.
“If you get worn out, tell me. I’ll carry you.” Bastion told his lover, concerned about his welfare. Jaden nodded, not knowing if Bastion saw him but unable to speak because his lungs burned with every breath of air he took. He hoped his legs wouldn’t give out, because he didn’t want to slow his lover and his friend down, and he certainly didn’t want them to worry. ‘I just have to hang on for a little while. The edge of town isn’t all that far from here.’ Jaden told himself, steeling himself against the throbbing in his legs.
TBC…
Not technically a cliffhanger, so don’t hate me. I’m sorry it took me so long to update. I knew what I wanted to happen, I just couldn’t figure out how to word it. Well, I hope everyone gets what I was trying to do.
Um, little question I want to ask.
I’m not expecting any one to want to do this, or even answer.
You see, every story I write is envisioned as a manga. But, my drawing skills suck. So, I was wondering… If anyone wanted to help me do a manga version of this story. Or any of my stories, really. I have a DeviantArt account.
But, well, I’m having some problems with messages on DeviantArt, yahoo won’t work at all, and my AOL account that I have listed got deleted.
I’ve gone back to my old AOL account (). So, if you want to help me (and no one has to! I’m just asking before I forget), please e-mail me there.
And like I said, it could be any one of my stories, not just this one.
Um, thank you to whoever bothers to read this.
