Jumping up at the feel of a weight on one corner of my bed I grabbed my wand, whispering a quick lumos and lighting up a small portion of the room.

Draco was sitting on my bed with me.

Seeing it was him and filled with a sense of both dread and relief, I lay back on my pillow and let out a frustrated sigh.

"What do you want, Draco?" I said, staring up at the ceiling.

"You've been whimpering a lot in your sleep lately, I hope you kow," he said softly, though his silver eyes were hard as steel.

"Gee, thanks for the info. Anything else I should know?" I said, sarcasm evident in my tired voice.

"Yes, actually," he replied, apparently ignoring my crabby attack on him. "When did the bad dreams start?"

"None of your damn business, Malfoy, now shut the hell up and go back to your own bed, how 'bout," I said, turning on my side away from him.

"None of my damn business, is it?" he asked, his voice finally rising an octave above the stupid fucking whisper it had been at. Well at least I had finally gotten some real emotion out of him besides the one it had been at that just made me so uncomfortable with self-pity. "I think it certainly is my business when it's someone I care aobut the way that I do. You're more to me than anything else, Potter, and you had better not forget that," he huffed before angrily making his way back to his own bed.

I wasn't able to go back to sleep for another two hours and by that time it was almost time to get back up anyways.

Fuck.

--

"Need something, Malfoy?" I asked the next day with a raised eyebrow as he sauntered over to my work table. Hot damn but does he ever look fucking sexy in those pants. Too tight. Sex on legs. Fuck. FUCK. FUCK! No! Stop moving, or I think I might just pounce on you and mount you right here like a fucking gazelle, FUC-- oh sit, he's talking, what the hell is he saying?? I can't seem to get over those long lithe legs long to enough to really concentrate on whatever the hell it is he's saying. Okay, Harry, FOCUS now. Focus on what he's saying, alright.

"-And I just thought I would come over her and see if you needed any help on your potion here. After all, I may be a good tutor but I still don't exactly think you're good enough to actually not botch up a potion for once. That's all I'm saying." The damn fucking smirk of his was back.

Fuck it all, I don't care if he does make me want to come at the mere sight of him.

"Fuck off, Malfoy," I said, glaring fiercely to mask the pure lust I was sure was detectable in my eyes.

He leant over to whisper in my ear. "I'd love to, but you don't really seem willing."

"You know I want you, Draco. Everybody wants you. Go find one of them to fuck, I'm a little busy right now. Now how about you go back to your station and finish your potion - you know Snape would flay you alive if you failed."

He hugged me loosely, but closely. "I love you, Harry."

I couldn't bring myself to hug him back, or say the words I so desperately wanted to. It would have been too much.

"Mr. Potter, if I could see you in my office?"

I nodded once, gathering up my things and walking to meet Snape in his office.

"Have a seat, Mr. Potter."

I did, expecting a verbal lashing, but raising an eyebrow at him when none came.

"Is something going on with you and my godson, Mr. Potter?"

"We, uhm... we broke up, Sir."

"I see. And may I inquire as to why that is?"

"I don't know, Sir. I guess it just didn't work out."

Snape furrowed his brow. "I don't understand, Potter. Last I saw, you two were, well - nauseating."

I let out a pained laugh. "Heh. Yeah, I guess it would seem that way."

"Are you going to tell me, Potter? Or am I going to have to guess?"

I didn't look at him. "..."

"Fine, I'll guess. Another boy, perhaps, is the problem? Or maybe conflict of interest? I would like to know the problem, Potter, before you get so distracted by it that your grades drop even more. You haven't been doing well ever since the break-up, and I would like to know why, exactly, that is. What happened, Potter, tell me, please."

"...It's Voldemort, Sir. He, uhm... everybody I love - my parents, Sirius - they all die because of him, Sir. And I just really don't want that to happen to anyone else, Sir, especially not Draco. I don't know what I would do if I lost him, not after we've just gotten so close."

To my utter surprise - Snape scoffed. I looked up sharply at him.

"He's not going to die, Potter. Draco can take care of himself, the Dark Lord won't just kill him, just like that, just because he has been a connection to you." He leaned forward. "Get over yourself, Potter. The Dark Lord is not so interested in your love life that he would just flat-out kill whomever it is you're shagging just to get to you. Merlin knows they'd probably come with you anyhow and try and help you defeat him, and where would the satisfaction be in knowing that there are more people to help bring him down.”

“But Sirius-” I started to protest, but was cut off once again.

“That mutt of yours was not killed by the Dark Lord, if you will remember, but rather that freak Bellatrix. She’s psychotic, Potter, if you haven’t noticed, and gets some strange pleasure out of killing others, so I highly doubt that it was your fault that he was killed.

“And as for your parents… they did not die because of you, either. They loved you, Potter, that is true, yes. But they were not murdered because of the fact that they loved you, but rather because it was the only way He thought he could get to you.” Snape leaned forward, across his desk. “They were only protecting you, Potter, doing what they thought was best, and truth be told, I think I would have done the same thing if I had been in that situation.”

“Sir?”

“Potter, it is human nature to protect the ones you love – don’t go getting a big head now and thinking that I care for you, because I certainly do not.”

I smiled anyway, a warmth filling my chest, already feeling better. “Thank you for this, Sir. I think this really helped a lot, surprisingly.”

“Good. Now go get my godson back, Potter, so you can stop sulking all the time. I would like to actually be able to say that all of my House has passed all of their classes this year.”

Who knows? Maybe Snape does have a heart after all and isn’t who we all thought he really was.

A/N: Whew! I finished another chapter, finally! So there are only a couple of chapters left, I’m thinking. Haha, review, please? I’m taking an oath, right here right now, that the next update won’t take so long. XD
