A/N: So

A/N: So. I kind of fell off the face of the earth, right? Well, I’ve written plenty for a new fandom, Legally Blonde, and wrote a Hairspray story about Amber, but I haven’t updated this story since the beginning of the school year. I’m so sorry about that, but junior year’s been a crazy whirlwind of ACT prep, college searching, and homework. Hopefully everything will let up and I can update more often, but for now, here’s the next chapter. I’m not sure what I think about it yet, but I have to get back into the groove of writing for this fandom. Also, I temporarily ended my streak of using Michael Buble lyrics, because I couldn’t find anymore songs that would apply. Anyway, enjoy!

Our song is the slammin’ screen door

Sneaking out late, tapping on your window

When we’re on the phone and you talk real slow

cause it’s late and your momma don’t know

Our song is the way you laugh,

The first date, “Man, I didn’t kiss her and I should have,”

And when I got home,

Before I said “Amen,”

Askin’ God if he could play it again…

”Our Song” by Taylor Swift

“Seaweed Jeremiah Stubbs!”

Maybelle’s voice rang loudly in from the kitchen, making Seaweed flinch from his spot on the couch.

“Yeah, momma?”

“Get in here, now!

Inez smirked from where she sat on the floor, “Someone’s in trouble…”

He glared, standing up and dropping his book on the couch before walking into the kitchen. He was greeted immediately by Maybelle smacking him repeatedly with a towel, her hits more forceful as he made his way further into the kitchen.

“Momma! What’d I do?”

“I can’t believe you!”

“Momma! Stop hitting me with the towel!”

Maybelle threw the towel onto the counter and glared at him, anger rising in her eyes. “I just got a call from Corny. He told me to warn you before you come to rehearsal, because the talk of the rest of the council is you and Penny after the pageant! And believe me, he sounded very uncomfortable talking about it.”

Seaweed swallowed, preparing for his mother to completely explode at him. “You…found out about that?”

Everyone found out about that! Apparently, it started at school and spread around, so Corny wanted to make sure you were warned before you got there and everyone started talking about you! Did you really think you could hide this from me for that long?”

“That isn’t exactly something you tell your mother about…”

“Of course it is! Do you know what you could have done? Were you even careful? Did you use protection?”

“Momma!” Seaweed’s face reddened as he turned away in embarrassment.

“Well, I’m sorry, but these are the kinds of questions I have to ask to make sure you didn’t do anything stupid!”

Seaweed sighed. “Fine. We were careful, momma. Can I go now?”

“Yes. You’ll be late otherwise. But do you know what could happen if Mrs. Pingleton finds out about this? She’ll have people after you within the hour!”

“I know, momma, we don’t plan on telling her anytime soon!”

Maybelle sighed, shooing him out of the kitchen.

“Stupid, stupid choices. And in my living room? I’m gonna wash that couch with bleach before anyone gets to sit on it…”

Seaweed entered the studio quietly, hoping that they would start dancing before anyone noticed his arrival.

“Pssst!”

“Ahh!”

“Shh! Don’t be so loud!”

“Well, you scared me!”

Link rolled his eyes. “I’m trying to help you here! Go around the other way and I’ll let you in the back door.”

“Why?”

“Because everyone knows and they’re prepared to do complete public humiliation!”

“I don’t care, cracker boy. This is ridiculous. It’s our personal lives, no one should care this much. I don’t even get why it’s such a big deal to everyone.”

“Seaweed, come on. To them, it’s interesting when someone wears mismatched socks. This is like a gossip goldmine.”

Seaweed rolled his eyes. “People are so stupid…” he muttered, walking around to where he could be let in without anyone noticing.

“So I had to sneak in through the back door, so no one would notice me.”

Penny stifled a laugh, then failed and started laughing uncontrollably.

“It really shouldn’t be funny to me,” she laughed, “Because they’re talking about our personal lives, but still. It’s sad that they have nothing else to talk about but us. It’s not like they haven’t done the same thing, numerous times. Come on. We can’t be that interesting!”

Seaweed laughed, pulling her closer to him as they sat on Tracy’s front step.

“I told you, people are crazy.”

She leaned into him, then turned to face him. “Well, I’d better get inside. Mrs. Turnblad’s making brownies, and I promised I’d taste them when they were done. Plus, I have homework to finish.”

“Okay, well I’ll see you tomorrow morning then.”

They stood up, and he placed a kiss on her lips.

“Bye, Seaweed.”

“Bye. Sleep well, baby.”

Penny turned to go inside when a car pulled up, screeching to a halt in front of the house. Prudy Pingleton jumped out, not bothering to take the keys out of the ignition, fuming.

You!” she shouted, stomping towards Seaweed. “You polluted my religious, well-brought up, sixteen year old daughter!”

Seaweed glanced back at Penny, who rushed forward, prepared to defend herself and Seaweed.

“Well, that’s an interesting way to put it.” Seaweed whispered as Prudy walked closer.

This was going to be a long night.
