A Meeting

Spoiler Alert: Based on the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The white blinded a tall man with greasy black hair. It took Severus Snape a few moments for his eyes to get adjusted to the light. The room he was in was oddly empty. He turned and then found himself directly in front of Albus Dumbledore. “Sir, I never told Potter…” Snape began shamefully.

A smile fell upon Dumbledore’s face. “Ah, but he did find out because of your memories. I have already spoken with Harry here.” Dumbledore said gently. “You kept your cover until the end. You did very well.”

Snape stood for a moment completely in shock. “He…he is already dead?” Snape asked quietly.

“Alas, no.” Dumbledore replied.

Confused, Snape shook his head. “What are you talking about?” Snape questioned impatiently.

Waving it off, Dumbledore sighed. “It is all very complicated.” Dumbledore said. “But simply, Harry died, but is still alive. He defeated Voldemort.”

There was silence. “So, it was worth it?” Snape asked softly.

“We lost a few of our own. Remus, Tonks…even Mr. Fred Weasley…” Dumbledore said heavily. “However, we could have lost many, many more. So, my answer for you Severus is, yes. It was worth everything.”

Suddenly, a woman with green eyes appeared with a messy haired man. Snape jumped back in surprise. “Lily…James!” Snape stated.

Dumbledore, however, did not appear surprised. “You received my message then?” Dumbledore asked.

Lily Potter nodded. “Yes.” Lily said lightly before turning to Snape. “Thank you Severus…for keeping Harry safe.”

“You’re…” Snape began before being interrupted by James.

Shaking his head, James looked very angry. “Don’t even finish that! Yes, you kept him safe, but only after you sent Voldemort after us! You are the reason for this mess! Harry has been forced to live with no family. He’s never had anyone to hold him…anyone to love him. I’m glad you decided to join the Order, but it was for all the wrong reasons, all too late.” James said angrily.

Snape looked ill. “I…I…you’re right. Harry has had to suffer because of what I did, but it’s not my fault that Voldemort went after him. He could have gone after Longbottom…” Snape said.

“Oh, so instead of messing up our family, you would have Voldemort go after another innocent family! You are such a wonderful guy Severus.” James said sarcastically.

Dumbledore sighed. “I see that even in death some deeds cannot be forgiven.” Dumbledore said quietly.

“Not when he stole my time with my son,” James replied.

There was a warm smile on Lily’s face. “James, he didn’t steal your time with our son. Yes, he shortened our time with Harry, but at least we had that year. A year to hold him, and many more years to love him.” Lily said calmly. “We will see him again. Hopefully not until it is his time though…”

Silence filled the room. “You’re right Lily.” James said. “Severus, I am sorry about what I said, but I won’t stop blaming you…regardless of what you did to help Harry.”

Snape nodded. “I understand.” Snape said in an odd voice. “What happens now?”

A train pulled up. Snape couldn’t help but notice that it looked a lot like the Hogwarts Express. “We move on,” Dumbledore replied. “For this is not the end, but the beginning.”

The End
