Uncle Shaw

Chapter 1: Lana

A girl with faded jeans, a thickly knitted green sweater, and a fluffy white scarf walked down the street. She was a beautiful, short, and pleasantly plump young woman with ambitions and dreams. Her green eyes sparked with curiosity and youth. She didn't smile much, however, because she didn't find it necessary to do unless someone told a joke or if she was around friends or if she wanted to show that things were good. She was blonde, naturally, and that made her have problems, such as the fact that she couldn't say something that happened to be wrong without a dumb blonde joke ensuing. She couldn't giggle or laugh without being called a tipsy blonde. She was almost tempted to dye her hair black but it was forgotten the winter her mother left her in the hands of her Uncle, who had a mysterious job that no one could put their finger on... What exactly did he do? Lana was going to figure out...

Lana watched her mother clicking away at her keyboard. She huffed anxiously and clicked another key, causing the computer to ding. Lana looked up from her book but became distracted when the phone rang. She stood up quickly and cantered over to the cell phone. She answered it quietly and tried to rub her eyes to keep herself from sleeping. The voice that croaked on the other end was her Aunt, bearing bad news. Lana nearly dropped the phone at what she heard. Her mother popped up out of her seat and grabbed the phone to listen to her sister chatter fearfully. Lana hovered around with her arms crossed, biting her nail i anticipation. Her mother finally hung up the phone and her eyes began to water.

"Your Grandmother is ill," she said cooly, "and I have to go take care of her with your aunt."

"Your leaving me here alone?"

"No, heck no!"

"That's very assuring," she said sarcastically.

"You're going to DC to stay with your Uncle," he smiled.

"The one who has the 'can't put my finger on it' job?"

"Yep," her mother said as she ran to begin packing.

Lana stood at the airport after her plain landed. She sat down on a bench an waited for her Uncle who she hadn't seen in four years. She was confused, hoping that she didn't miss him. She had no idea if he looked the same. Some said he had shaved all his hair off, which was strange to her.

When she saw him she knew it was him, no doubt. She didn't know, however who the men with him were. One was blonde, the other had auburn hair. they all looked very rough yet well groomed. She stood up and adjusted her tote's sling to make it more comfortable on her shoulder.

He saw her approaching him. she had changed allot since he had last seen her. Her hair was long, she had gained some weight, but she hadn't grown taller. She was still her short little self. When she came up to him, she was eye level with his chest. He chuckled when she dropped her bag and muttered something to herself. She pulled her gloves tighter and began shivvering a bit as the doors kept openeing and closing.

"It's frickin' cold!" she spat out. The blonde man started laughing with the other guy.

"It's January, what'd you expect?" Shaw smirked at her. He still had the same personality.

"I've been waiting here for two hours, can we please go?" Lana said groggily as her eyes began to water and she began to yawn, "who are they?"

"My boss," he pointed to the blonde man, "Ian Howe."

Ian smiled at her and took her hand, working his debonaire charms and kissing her hand, "it's a pleasure. How old are you?"

"Nineteen," Lana said in an unaffected way, "how old are you?"

"Old enough," Shaw joked and then proceeded to point to the auburn haired man, "This is Powell. He's the brawn and the the technical brains of our humble crew."

He shook hands with her and smiled politely. She smirked at him, "Technical?"

"Yeah."

"Can you fix my laptop?" she pulled out macbook from her tote, "my dad hasn't gotten to it yet."

"If he has time," Shaw took her bags and she grinned tiredly, "I was just- oh forget it, I'm tired."
