Falling in love was never easy (even if you weren't a nobody) if you fell the wrong way you'd end up in pain, if you fell to soon you might never catch up with your loved one and if you fell to late...
Demyx tripped up to soon...
"You really don't quite grasp it do you?"
Demyx stared at the Schemer with a puzzled look.
"Obviously not what do you mean Zexion?"
Zexion's blue eyes were cold.
"We're nobodies, you fool, nobodies"
"What does that have to do with anything?"
Zexion blinked, Surely this fool wasn't serious?
"It has zero anything to do with how I feel for you" Demyx continued "Zero!"
"You can't feel anything" Zexion snapped "I can't, so I don't love you and the same applies for you!"
Zexion turned sharply, his heavy coat billowing behind him and walked straight into a seething, twisting portal.
Demyx stood there, utmost disbelief frozen across his childish features. He felt tears burning but wouldn't fall...that was just another thing about being a nobody, emotions didn't come easy, and when they did you had to struggle to keep them.
"Zexion" he whispered.
Demyx sat on his bed, playing on his Sitar, quietly of course so as not to disturb anyone. The moonlight shone through the windows and onto the walls, making them shine with white luminescence. The song he played was so soft and so sweet you'd have thought it impossible to play such a melody on a Sitar, and one used to fight no less. But the Nocturne was gifted that way. Sighing, he paused for a moment to readjust the way the blue insturment rested against him before resuming play.
"I'm sorry Demyx..."
Zexion stood in the shadows beside Demyx's open door, watching the oblivious blonde play.
If I had a heart, he thought wistfully, Demyx you'd be able to move it...
Pushing the purple hair from his eyes he too felt the sensation of wanting to cry, and he did want it more than anything, he wanted Demyx to comfort him as he sobbed.
But since when did nobodies get what they wanted?
Demyx played for a while longer and then his Sitar vanished, with a yawn the older boy lay back and slept. Zexion was overcome with a sudden mad desire. He crept up to where Demyx slumbered and gazed at him. The dim glow from outside had washed Demyx's skin out until it was silvery. Zexion moved his eyes up Demyx's face, past the impossibly long and dark lashes that fanned over his closed baby-blues and up to where his face gradually melded with golden hair.
Sighing, Zexion made as if to brush the errant strands from Demyx's face but stopped dead.
"What am I doing?" Zexion breathed.
Demyx awoke the next morning and looked around, he felt the overwhelming urge to smile about nothing, and being the impulsive person that he was, he did so. A grin spread across his rosy lips and as it did through his body rushed something akin to joy.
"For someone that can't feel..." he said, laughing.
Zexion paused, looking up from his book, he heard the innocent, child-like laughter and couldn't help but wonder what Demyx thought was so funny.
"Probably nothing" he muttered to himself, flipping a page in his book "that fool will find any reason cling to emotions"
Fake emotions...
Zexion sat in the library for so long that as he found by the time the sun began to fade the pages of his book had dwindled to nothing. He set it down on the elaborate table in front of the couch he was laying on.
"Whatcha reading?"
Zexion scowled at the cheerful voice.
"Nothing" he replied "as you should be able to clearly see I put the book down because I was finished and therefore am not reading anything"
Demyx faltered for a moment then smiled.
"You're so cold"
"I reserve this attitude for you" Zexion muttered
Demyx frowned, a look that didn't seem to suit his face.
"Did I offend you or something?"
"Yes"
"How?"
Zexion looked up at him.
"The list is long Demyx, we'd be here all night if I told you"
Demyx looked stung and for just a brief moment Zexion almost felt a shred of pity for him, but it passed and instead he smirked "come now IX don't look so down"
Demyx tried to smile but stopped.
"You're cruel Zexion" he said, his eyes glittering chips of blue ice.
"There you go Demyx, now you're acting like a member of the Organization should"
"I'm sorry you feel that way about me" Demyx said quietly
Zexion had had enough.
He jumped up from the couch "I CANNOT feel, what part of that is so difficult to comprehend?!"
Demyx recoiled.
"Somewhere" he said just as softly as before "you're heart is causing you to be mad at me"
"What heart?" Zexion shreiked, the tears finally coming.
They slid down his face leaving hot little trails. Zexion was shocked.
So was Demyx.
"Zexion..." the blonde embraced him and held him tightly.
"What heart?" Zexion sobbed, clutching the front of Demyx's robes "we're nobodies!"
Demyx caressed Zexion's thick hair, his own tears clinging to his lashes.
"You're crying Zexion" he whispered "you must feel something"
"I feel...I feel" stammered Zexion "..."
A sudden rush made Zexion rip away from Demyx.
"I feel absolute revulsion" he shouted "get out of my sight IX!"
Without another word Demyx left and Zexion watched him go with a sigh of regret, he sat back down.
"I'm sorry"
Demyx huddled in a corner of the castle as far from the library as he could manage, his insides stinging with Zexion's harsh words.
So drowned in his misery he was that he failed to hear the footsteps approaching him.
"Hello there" a high heeled boot pushed into his back hard "why so down Demyx? Anything I can do to...help?"
Demyx shot Larxene a look almost as venomous as the tone she was using.
"You're the last person I would want help from, now leave me alone"
Larxene giggled.
"You aren't crying are you!?" the look on her face was that of sadistic joy "how sad, but then again you are such a wuss"
Demyx sprung up so quickly that it made Larxene take a step back, surprise etched in little lines across her delight.
"I am a higher ranking member than you" Demyx's voice was raising in pitch "and you WILL respect me you little bitch now shut up and leave me ALONE!"
"Christ" Larxene muttered, dissapearing "you really are an over emotional baby"
Demyx's hatred for the woman was still there as he set off, ultimately-and very literally-ran into Axel.
"Sorry" Demyx mumbled, more tears coming.
"Woh what's up with you?" Axel held him at arms length to examine him.
"Zexion...hates me" Demyx breathed.
Without really thinking Demyx pushed himself flush against Axel's chest.
"He would rather forget me...like Roxas...and you..."
A pang of sorrow constricted Axel's throat for a second, but it passed and he turned his attentions more fully to the distressed blonde.
"Calm down you're beginning to hyperventilate, breath would ya?"
Demyx took a deep breath and looked up at Axel.
"I don't want to be hated by someone I have feelings for"
He fully expected for Axel to preach that nobodies didn't have real feelings, but thanks for trying so hard, blah blah blah and all that bullshit. But instead he smiled and and hugged Demyx.
"I know what that feels like"
Demyx smiled a sad smile.
Over the next few weeks Zexion watched from the shadows-his cloak of sorts-as Axel and Demyx grew closer and his own need for Demyx's compassion became stronger. But the Nocturne looked happier than he had for a while. And that, in it's bizarre way, made Zexion happy...but it made him sad above all else.
"I guess Demyx could also be the one to break my heart" Zexion said wistfully, watching high up from a balcony as the two walked through the courtyard.
If I had a heart...
Demyx seemed so convinced they all had hearts, and not without reason, Zexion saw now that the blonde's seemingly ridiculous notions might be true.
"I feel sad..."
Zexion of course had fallen to late.
