"Jo, I can't do this anymore. I can't lie to everyone. I can't lie to my friends, my colleagues."

"Why not?"

"Because they took me in, trusted me. They looked after me."

"What about me? I didn't like lying to them either. I just, I don't, oh I don't no."

"You don't even no why we kept this a secret."

"This? It was just a bit of fun. A fling, a conquest. Nothing else."

"Maybe for you."

"What is that supposed to mean, Diane?"

"It doesn't matter. It's nothing."

"Yes it is, and you said yourself, we were fuck buddies. There were no emotions involved."

"There weren't," Diane agrees.

"No. There weren't, so why are you saying you can't lie to everyone. It's not like they're all asking and wondering, is it."

"Things change."

"What thing, Diane, what things change?"

"I don't no. That's the problem. I have no idea what is going on in my head, I'm so bloody confused. Nothing makes sense."

"Nothing ever makes sense when it comes to you, Diane."

"And what is that supposed to mean?"

"You just can't make decisions. Your place or my place? Takeaway or eat out? Beer or wine? You just can't hold a decision when it comes to anything but police work. You're a great copper."

"Thanks. Thanks alot, Jo. So what if I can't make a decision. Either place is just as good. Takeaway is as good as eating out and beer is as good as wine. I just don't no which one I want. Okay?"

"Okay. I just...you're so hard to read. That's why I want nothing but a good fuck in the evening. No strings attached, you said that's what you wanted as well."

"I did. To start with. Now, I think...I think I want something else."

"What? What else do you want from me?"

"Everything. Everything to do with you. Your past, your present, and your future. I'm falling in ..."

"Diane. Stop. Don't even say that. Don't think that. How can you think that? We're just friends having a bit of fun. Nothing else. I certainly don't want anything else."

"No, Jo, you don't understand. I think I am falling for you. I can't stop that. I can't ignore that when I'm screaming your name so loud the people two blocks away can here. I just can't stop thinking about you."

"Diane, you're giving me a bloody headache you are, I'm not in love with you. I'm sorry."

A look of utter heartbreak spread across Diane's face. "Umm..."

"I think it'd be best if we didn't continue with our arrangement."

"Of course. Work colleagues." Diane swallowed both her pride and the nausea that was threatening to overcome her.

"Goodbye, Diane. I'm going to miss your 're pretty damn good."

Diane laughed sadly, "I'll see you around then."
