Summary: Sarah knew the Doctor was childish, but this is too much. Four/Sarah.
Elizabeth
“Doctor?” Sarah said, wondering where the Doctor has disappeared to in the TARDIS. “Doctor, where did you-?” Suddenly, she stopped, only to hear the sound of someone snoring from inside the TARDIS console. Who else would she know would have a snore that was loud enough to wake the dead? Right, that’s it.Sarah told herself angrily, she was going to gag him, whether he liked it or not.
The Doctor snores where like sawing logs and that it drove Sarah mental every time it had gotten louder. The sleeping Time-Lord had his body covered with his long velvet frock coat, his legs curled up tight against his warm chest and his outrageously long multicoloured scarf was used as a make shirt pillow. Sarah came storming in until she stopped in front of him. Never in a millions years would she find him this adorable – and tame.
The Doctor was completely at peace, nothing was there to worry him anymore. He ran happily around in his own realm of fantasies and make-believe, without a care in the world. Time-Lords don’t sleep you said, huh, my foot, Sarah thought amusingly. She didn’t make a sound when she swift by him and then making it across the other room.
She turned her back to face him once more, only to find that his arms look like they were holding onto something. Sarah couldn’t help but have a quick peak to see what it was.
Sarah peeked over his shoulder and down his chest; something was definitely snuggling up to him. She tried her best not to wake him up, when she had seen what the Time-Lord was holding, she nearly cried out laughing.
A brown teddy bear with a long scarf like his was clutched up tight to his chest very protectively. Sarah bit back her tongue and walked away from the Doctor. Streams of tears ran down her face, she covered her mouth with her hand. She stopped when the teddy dropped out from his arms, the Doctor stirred, wondering where his comfort had gone too.
He woke up, his eyes slightly opened and searching himself to find his lost teddy bear. Sarah picked the cuddly toy up from the ground and held onto it with enthusiasm, as if it were hers. The Doctor looked down at the ground and panicked. “Elizabeth?” He said lazily. Sarah sniggered soundlessly when he mentioned the bear’s name.
“Is this what you’re looking for, Doctor?” Sarah said with a smile, also, she tried hiding away her laughter. Just to prevent herself from hurting the Doctor’s feelings.
The Doctor’s eyes widen and his face turned bright red when he seen Sarah holding onto a bear, his bear. He removed himself from the chair with cautious steps, his eyes not removing from the bear’s site. He cleared his throat and pushed his coat away from his body.
“Umm... hello Sarah.” He said sheepishly, he cleared his throat.
“Hello Doctor.” Sarah giggled. “She’s adorable, don’t you think?” Sarah cuddled up against the Doctor’s toy. “Where did you get her?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The Doctor said, looking very guilty. “That bear could have gotten anywhere, she could have been with you for all I know and you’re just trying to make me look like a fool.”
“Then why did you say Elizabeth? It was obvious that you were looking for the bear.” Sarah raised her eyebrow. “Why don’t you just admit it?”
The Doctor froze for a moment, trying to think up of something to outwit Sarah. Sarah made her way to him and sat down beside the embarrassed Time-Lord. He looked down at his bear and then back up at Sarah. “I have my reasons.” He took the bear off from her hand and then wrapped it around his arms, he held her against him. He nuzzled his neck against her. “I like my teddy, thank you.” He murmured.
“Doctor, I’m not going to judge you just because you sleep with a teddy. I just want to know what made you decide that you wanted to sleep with it?” Sarah said soothingly.
“Promise you’ll not laugh.”
“That depends on what your reasons are.” Sarah smirked. The Doctor was saddened. “Alright then, I promise, I’ll not laugh.” She placed a hand over his shoulder.
The Doctor cleared his throat again; afraid to come out what he wanted to say. Sarah wouldn’t hurt his feelings like that; she was such a sensitive girl. The Doctor summoned as much courage as he could, taking in a deep breath and then breathing out. “Sarah, Time-Lords can dream, but not very often, it’s very rare for one to happen. With me, it’s different. I dream about things that I want, things that I desire... things that are there but I can’t get.” He looked at her. “Elizabeth plays a very important part in my sleep.”
“Like what?”
“Comfort and security,” He looked at his bear. “Elizabeth means a lot to me, without her, I can’t sleep properly.” He puffed sadly. “I need Elizabeth because, everyday, I dread that something were to happen to you, something very bad.” His attentions turned to Sarah. “I have nightmares when I sleep; my dreams are not always that pleasant. In my dreams, something bad always happens to you. When I have my teddy, I feel safe and comfortable. She symbolizes you in the good side of my dreams.”
Sarah felt speechless. “Doctor, I...”
“Elizabeth is my protection; she looks out for me in my sleep. Just the same way as you, Sarah, protect and look for me in reality.” He was about to get up from the chair, until Sarah pulled him back down to give him a hug.
“That’s the kindest thing anyone has ever said to me.” Sarah cackled, choking back her tears.
The Doctor hugged her back, still holding the bear in one hand. They could have stayed that way for eternity if they wanted too, but the Doctor parted away from her. “Now, that’s that sorted, how about we both get ourselves a nice cup of tea.”
“Yes, yes, that would be lovely.” Sarah smiled while drying her eyes.
The Doctor got up and planted a kiss on her forehead. He sat Elizabeth back down on the chair and allowed Sarah to lead the way into the kitchen.
