Notes: A double drabble (just a hair over 200 words) that has nothing to do with my other fics. Just something I got in my head that I had to write. Vol 7 Rem spoilers ahead.

Empty

If you put her in danger, I will kill you, Light Yagami.
I will not allow myself to die for a human.

No person had ever known fury as great as her own at that moment. Phasing slowly, silently through the walls, Death Note in hand, she took back all the warm thoughts she may ever had felt toward Light. They, too, had all been part of his plan, the wretched, filthy human...

And Misa. Delicate, easily manipulated - and of her own will, at that. Now who was to keep her safe? Jealous, and now Rem herself would die to further this girl's life. She was something else entirely. Rem hoped Misa's "something else" would keep her safe until her life span met its natural end.

The Death Note flipped open easily; the pen felt familiar in her hand. It was a natural event, if you could overlook the circumstances that drove her to do it. The ink flowed gracefully, the letters written in a smooth, sophisticated script.

She hoped this act would end it, but she knew better. Deep inside, she knew better, and that in the end, as she broke into pieces of dust and sand, they were all just empty promises.
