A Simple Song

A Simple Song

Author’s Notes – This story is about Karen, and after she got married to Kai what her life is like…The song was written my dido, not me. (No matter how much I DESPISE Karen, she’s got a good storyline…Okay, I don’t hate her, but everybody LIKES her, so…Hey, go against the flow! ^.~ )

Karen gazed blearily out her window as the rain poured down. She and Kai had had a fight again, so she was sleeping in her room again for the night.

She had been married to Kai for three years now, and life just wasn’t as it had seemed at the beginning of their marriage. Karen had liked Jack, but he had married Popuri, and after that Kai asked Karen to marry him. She had accepted, because she DID like him at the time. But now life just seemed to drag by.

Karen wondered why she didn’t enjoy her life anymore. She had everything she wanted: a nice life, with a good husband in a simple town. Her parents could be quite…well, like parents, but they were becoming better over the years. But she was missing something…

Karen learned of a Talent Show/contest that was coming up soon. A lot of people were singing songs, dancing, putting on shows or doing whatever they were good at.

"Why don’t you enter dancing, Karen?" asked Kai the next day.

"No, I think I’ll enter something else," Karen replied, smiling at him. She thought that this would be a good way to tell Kai how she felt.

She loved Kai, but she learned the one thing she really wanted to do didn’t involve him, or Flowerbud Village, as a matter of fact.

Karen decided to write as quickly as she could her song. She stayed up late at nights to get her talent perfected. When she told Ann what she was doing, Ann replied, "I didn’t know you were good at singing. Shouldn’t you dance instead?" But Karen was set on her idea.

The day of the contest came. Popuri sang a song about love. Elli and Ann played a duet of flute music. Maria played the organ, and a couple of other people performed hardly any good talents. But it was a good festivity altogether, since there was drinking, eating, and dancing between talents.

When Karen stood on the platform to perform her talent, everybody thought she was going to dance. She put on the music that went with her song, took a mike, and began to sing:

"With one light on

In one room

I know you’re up

When I get home,

One small step,

Upon the stair,

I know your look,

When I get back

*

If you were a king, up there on your throne

Would you be wise enough to let me go

For this queen you think you o-own…

Wants to be a hunter again,

Wants to see the world, alone, a-gain,

To take a chance at life again

So let me go…

*

The unread book

Painful look

The TVs on

Sound is down

One long pause,

Then you begin

Oh look what

The cats brought in

*

If you were a king, up there on your throne,

Would you be wise enough to let me go,

For this queen you think you o-own

Wants to be a hunter again,

Wants to see the world, alone, a-gain,

To take a chance at life again

So let me go…

Let me leave…

*

For the crown you’ve placed upon my head

Feels too heavy now

And I don’t know what to say to you,

But I’ll smile to you anyhow

And all the time, I’m thinkin’

Thinkin’…

*

I want to be a hunter again

I want to see the world alone again

To take a chance at life again

So let me go…

I want to be a hunter again

Want to see the world alone again

To take a chance at life again

So let me go…

Let me leave…

Let me go…

*

Ohh…let me go…

Karen’s eyes were locked with Kai’s meaningfully as she let her voice die away.

The applause was an uproar. The song was beautiful and it was surprising for Karen to sing, and not to dance.

Dancing began, and Karen walked to Kai.

She could tell he was terribly sad, but he smiled down at her.

He kissed her passionately, then said, "Go."

Karen smiled at him, whispered, "I will see you again," and left Flowerbud Village to fulfill her dream.
